And just waiting for the fourth one, cause :ESP Feliciano Lopez has the 4th place rigth now and he already withdrawn Rio2016 when he was a medal contender in doubles, so.....

If he withdraws, which is likely but not sure, I am quite sure that he wouldn't be the last :ESP player refusing the quota.

checking the lists. that wasn't just dirty. that was also stupid for :ESP Marcos Ruiz. he would qualify in his own weight and maybe even stand a slim chance for medal. he would be #12 in 109kg ranking which was good enough for the European quota. (after removing Yang Zhe, all Europeans above him would be in top 8)

same goes to :AUT Martirosjan, of course only one of them would qualify, but without Ruiz he could have the best European quota. now it goes to :UKR Roman Zaitsev (Ukraine's replacement for Chumak)

This is what happens when the Spanish federation prefers having 5 athletes instead of 4 and some chances to get a medal... By choosing +109kg, they are expecting Armenia to pick Simon Martirosyan in -109 instead of Gor Minasyan, so Marcos qualifies through ranking and Spain gets the continental quota in -67kg with Acorán Hernández.

I know, but Carolin Marin is out, the girl from :FIN ended career last year and :NED girl probably will not fulfill Dutch's NOC restrictions, with those 3 womens being out other :POL player Wiktoria Dąbczyńska might get reallocation.

Carolina Marín will be replaced by Clara Azurmendi from Spain (reallocation after only giving 2 Tripartite slots instead of 3) and there are two more countries with a better ranking than Poland: :GUA and :IRI, so I think you need another player to drop out apart from :FIN and :NED.

    Extra Poll

Who is the most underrated and overrated Olympic Medallist in your country?

This is a difficult one, but I would say that the most underrated is Maialen Chorraut (canoeing). She won the gold medal in Rio, bronze in London and is, alongside Rafa Nadal, the only of our 7 gold medallits in Rio that can defend her title in Tokyo. She also has a daughter, which makes it even more deserving, but she is not popular at all in Spain compared to other recent medallists.

I don't think we have an overrated Olympic Medallist in Spain, at least none than I can remember now. Maybe Fermín Cacho, but his gold medal in Barcelona 92 was very iconic, so I wouldn't say that overrated is the right word to use to describe him.

Are you sure it is for the best ranked (higher seed) and not for a eventual play-off match between the losers to ESP (in this case no match is necessary since FRA has a semifinalist and thus EST should be the qualified) ?

We had the same situation in Rio and the criteria used to rank the QF losers were the points obtained by each athlete in that round. In this case both Slovakia and Estonia got 2 points, but the score of adding all the arrows is higher in the case of Slovakia, so she gets the quota.

  6. 1. Individual men foil (I am excited with the Spanish return in this sport after 13 years), K4 500 and men basketball.

    2. :POR:CUB for sure. The third one depends on the sport and the athlete, but I would say Central-American nations in general or :HUN

    3.  Rafael Nadal (tennis), Pau Gasol (basketball) and Carolina Marín (badminton). I decided to name three Spanish athletes, but if I have to choose foreign athletes I would say Usain Bolt (athletics), Valentina Vezzali (fencing) and Sebastian Brendel (canoeing)
