  1. Maybe he was talking about the world records in mens 200 free, mens 800 Free or womens 200 fly... I think everyone who follows swimming thought that either this year or next year Milak or Urlando would break this record.
  2. Don't see any realistic chances for Quadarella, Detti or Pellegrini, but if Wellbrock stops progressing, then Paltrinieri could become double olympic champion. Not sure if you are serious about "but yeah, we could easily end up without any gold medal...", but if not, then would you be interested in a bet?
  3. 1) Why should he swim the prelims if he doesn't think he can medal (considering that he already knows where he is at after the relays)? 2) How is Yang bad now? He has been bad in the 800 free for years, noone ever expected him to medal in this event.
  4. In the women's 800 free we have Smith and Titmus and maybe Ledecky. In the men's 1500 free we have Wellbrock and Romanchuk who can both beat Paltrinieri if they are at their best.
  5. Might have something to do with the fact that Scott has a better medal chance in the 200 IM ...
  6. Will be interesting to see if Italy can win a swimming gold medal in Tokyo? I only see Paltrinieri defending his title(s).
  7. Ok ... how exactly are your women going to win 10 medals by themselves? 100 back + 200 back + 100 fly + 200 IM + 400 IM + 2-3 relays -> 7-8 medals Theoretically Canada could also win medals in 50 fly, 50 back, 200 breast or 100 free, but in the last 2 events canadian athletes aren't favorites for a medal, so it is very possible that Canada ends up with "only" 9 medals on the women's side, so i am not sure why you act as if there is a guarantee that canadian women will win at least 10 medals.
  8. No world record for Burdisso, first italian swimmer here to disappoint.
  9. Maybe you could add Kesely as well. Edit: And Smith, if you can swim a 4:01 400 free you can certainly swim a 1:56 200 free.
  10. First time since 2005 that the US doesn't have someone in women's 200 free final.
  11. I hope that this is what happened ... her 100 fly time doesn't suggest that she is in top shape.
  12. Finally Omegatiming is back up ... Quadaralle had a 8:17 split at 800 m, i think she will go 8:10 - 8:12 in the 800 m and if Ledecky won't compete, then i don't see anyone challenging her. Köhler could also have a small chance for bronze (if Ledecky scratches that race), considering that she had a 8:22.55 split at 800 m when her PB is only 2 seconds faster, i think she can go around 8:17.
  13. Disappointing that 1:56.82 makes the final in women's 200 free, i expect that it will take 1:55 high to final in Tokyo. I fear another gold for Pellegrini incoming.
  14. Hong Kong could win medals in both swimming (olympic disciplines only) and fencing, the only other nations that will achieve that are Italy, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, GB, China, USA and maybe Ukraine/Brazil/France. Much bigger countries like Japan or Germany won't achieve that.
  15. The comparison in athletics would be 400 m and we all know how dirty the 400 m was historically.
  16. You "lost" 4 gold medals in fencing compared to 2018, but at this rate you are gonne make it up in swimming ...
  17. Lucky with what? You produce new talents out of nowhere every year, it's not like you got lucky with 1 or 2 generational talents like Sweden with Sjöstrom or Hungary with Hosszu. I am always skeptical when a nation is much stronger on the women's side in endurance sports, used to be the same with the GDR and chinese women in swimming/middle distance running in the early 90's.
  18. Another surprisingly slow race and another final without medal for the US, pretty bad results for them so far.
  19. Also no chance to give a medal to a german athlete at the fencing world championships ...
  20. Makes no sense, then why are the Netherlands so bad in swimming ... ?!
  21. Our favorite former fencer with another random appearance ... Fun fact: Did you guys know that he won an olympic gold medal in men's team foil at the 1976 olympics?
