  1. Ok I think the penny finally dropped for me. Poland could have technically occupied another quota if they chose another paddler. Forgot about the qualifying the boat rather than the athlete rule in canoeing
  2. I mean Poland is the same, their paddler is entering both K1 and C1, they didn't refuse the quota, least not according to our Polish friend here.
  3. Irish athletes have benefited from reallocations as well (though we have also rejected quotas in the past too) and while it is nice to receive a bonus of another athlete qualified, I really hope some time soon the IOC introduce some sort of rule that binds NOCs to accept all athletes who qualified by right unless the athletes were in breach of rules, etc. Wishful thinking but would love to see that happen in the true spirit of the Olympic principles.
  4. I wish them luck and hopefully with a positive outcome it would help put an end to these awful cases of athletes being stopped from going to the Olympics when they have met the official qualifying criteria.
  5. Looks like China got a reallocated quota in women's K1 (Li Shiting), seems to be they aren't counting Jessica Fox's quota in that event since she is qualified in both C1 and K1. @hckošice is that right?
  6. @Benolympique Ireland now have 133 athletes qualified: +1 in Canoe Slalom (4 in total).
  7. 4 golds 1 silver and 4 bronze is a bit optimistic for Ireland I think, everything would have to work out for us. But I'm willing to accept this scenario now, let me sign the deal
  8. 11 days to go The fourth ring is complete!! Tomorrow we start the final ring Paris 2024 Olympic Countdown Clock -----------------50------------------------------------ 25------------------------------------ 02----- --------49---------------48------------------27---------------24-------------------04--------------01- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --47--------------------------46-------29---------------------------22-------06--------------------------03 -------------------------------------36-------------------------------------- 16------------------------------- --45-------------------38--43----- 30--33---------------18--21-------08-13------------------ -05 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------44--------40---41----------------28--31-------20--23----------------10-11----- ---07--- -----------------42------------------------------------- 26------------------------------------- 09------------- ----------------------39--------------------------32-------19-------------------------- 12----------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------37----------------34-------------------17---------------14------------- ------------------------------------ -35-------------------------------------- 15--------------8
  9. Rhys McClenaghan will be in Subdivision 3 during qualification so means he will have a very late start... 21:40 local time (20:40 Irish time). Ever the professional, he is changing his training times now in advance to replicate those "conditions"
  10. Congrats Spain, best team all tournament On a very important note though, football needs to find a new anthem to replace Freed From Desire already

  12. I was also wondering should we create some sort of report card for all Irish athletes so that when the Olympics are over we can properly examine Ireland's performance using some sort of solid criteria? Have criteria as to what would exceed expectation of a particular athlete, meet expectation, under-perform, etc. It's often hard to examine the cold-hard facts after the Olympics as as one powerful positive or negative result can kind of influence our overall perception of whether we had a good Games or not. Just a thought?
  13. Yes the fewer threads the better really. I think we could keep the schedule thread separate and update it as draws become known etc. and have a separate one called something like "Team Ireland - Paris 2024 Daily Diary" which would serve as our main thread to discuss the daily events and news as they happen live.
  14. Yes I think we can start thinking about what threads we need. I don't think we'd need one for every sport though but open to suggestions on what threads we would like @dodge @mpjmcevoy @Oldira @Ogreman @duineeile @mattiekav119
  15. Not sure if you saw it but I opened a thread with the Irish-specific schedule here:
  16. Now that the draw has been revealed, how soon might we expect them to reveal which matches are allocated to each session?

  18. There's been no official confirmation or announcement of our final team number, but it looks like it is 132 athletes if I'm not mistaken? Wikipedia has 133 but they seem to be counting Jack Raftery in athletics but he shouldn't be counted in the official quota if I understand correctly.
  19. @Benolympique there has been no official announcement on final numbers for Team Ireland but can give you some corrections to your total. We qualified 2 divers which aren't on your list and I think in athletics our official number is 23 instead of 24. Wikipedia lists 24 but they are counting one of our traveling reserves in the relay. So by my calculations our official total is 132. You can see my tracker below from the Team Ireland Club:
  20. She was only an outside shot at a medal but at top form would have been exciting to cheer her on and see her challenging. We are all delighted with her gold medal at Europeans but equally sad to see her in this form before the biggest event of her life. Most likely she has something going on we don’t know about.
  21. Another worrying performance by Mageean tonight, well off the pace in the women’s 2000m in Monaco, fading very badly to 10th of 11 finishers.
  22. Yes was watching! Great to see her continue her good form. Hoping she is peaking for Paris
  23. The Olympic badminton draws took place today. Men's Singles: Nhat Nguyen (world rank 43) is in Group P alongside current Olympic champion and world number 2 Viktor Axelsen , Misha Zilberman (world rank 59) and Prince Dahal (world rank 172). Only the group winner advances so not much chances for Nhat here against the formidable Axelsen, having not won a set against the Dane in two previous meetings but still, you never know. The winner of this group receives a bye to the quarter-finals. Rachael has never met either of her opponents in competition before but needless to say it would be a mammoth task for her to top the group ahead of the experienced Carolina Marin who is a medal favourite. Only the group winner advances and will play Group K winner (possibly world 11 Beiwen Zhang of in the last 16).
  24. Malaysia actually changed theirs after much public backlash. I came across several funny videos on Tiktok of fans mocking the unveiling of the original design Anyway here is the new design:
