  1. I've always been of the opinion that if you are good enough then you are old enough. Of course, young athletes do have issues when it comes to traveling. For example, many nations have child trafficking laws which prevent them from traveling without their parents.
  2. Team Time Trial is on the 15th Individual Time Trial is on the 17th Men's and Women's Junior Road Race is on the 18th Men's and Women's Elite Road Race in on the 19th
  3. He was in the Tour du Rwanda, it wouldn't have taken him too out of his way to go to Ethiopia. Rwanda does have a decent chance at qualifying through the nations ranking (which has priority over the continental championships). They are currently 43/50 on the overall rankings (it's too early to take the Olympic rankings seriously).
  4. Team Rwanda Link Women Juniors: Diane Ingabire Seniors: Jacqueline Tuyishimire, Beatha Ingebire, Genevieve Mukundente and Oliver Izerimana Men Juniors: Jean Eric Habimana, Leones Uhirirwe Byiza, Bernabe Gahemba and Eric Umuhoza Seniors: Valens Ndayisenga, Jean Bosco Nsengimana, Jean Claude Uwizeye, Moise Mugisha and Eric Manizabayo
  5. It's not too hard, but that would require going smaller and sadly the IOC seems to not want that.
  6. Correct, I saw the flag, but the name screamed Spanish and upon closer inspection she is indeed from Ecuador.
  7. In terms of costs karate is one of the cheapest, the bigger issue is that they require more athletes than the other nominated sports (unless they decide to create another farce of having only 10 athletes per weightclass like in 2020). Would the sport sacrifice kumite and only have the individual kata events?
  8. Here is the updated entry list for the upcoming Shotgun World Cup In terms of Olympic qualification the top 2 eligible athletes in each individual Olympic event qualify their nation. Based on the IQS here are the top 5 eligible athletes. Again this is not an accurate way of measuring the favourites, but it at least gives some kind of a picture. Men's Trap 1. Bostjan Macek - 124 1. Walton Eller - 124 3. N Tolga Tuncer - 123 4. Du Yu - 122 4. Mauro de Filippis - 122 Men's Skeet 1. Jan Din - 124 1. Jakub Tomecek - 124 1. Sven Korte - 124 4. Emin Jafarov - 123 4. Ben Llewllin - 123 4. Mansour Al Rashedi - 123 4. Stefan Nilsson - 123 Women's Trap 1. Maria Lucia Palmitessa - 121 1. Ashley Carroll - 121 3. Melanie Couzy - 119 3. 9. Awesome work. Hopefully FINA begins adding those results to their database...
  10. 10 weightclasses is a lot for one sport at the Olympics, especially when taekwondo and wrestling both have a reduction of events relative to their world championships.
  11. Correct, along with the top 10 at the major marathons (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York) and World Championships. From that link you can also include the marathons that have already occurred since January 1st. On my list from yesterday I forgot to take that into account and thus both Bahrain and China have an additional quota in the women's marathon.
  12. Most of those athletes will either be the same or come from nations that have already qualified 3 or more athletes. We'll likely have between 1000-1200 athletes before taking World Rankings into account, more manageable than the ~2000 athletes in 2016.
  13. We can always create our own and given how hard the standards are the list won't be as massive as 2016. We just need to take into account indoor events and additional rules for the marathon.
  14. While true, I don't see how having a 10km race instead of 50km will get more people to watch it. Most nations don't show race walk unless they have an entrant that is expected to do well or they just want to eat up TV time while waiting for other events to begin. At this point they might as well revert to 3km and 5km races and keep them on the track.
  15. It would take quite the collapse for any of United States, New Zealand or Fiji to miss qualifying to the Olympics. South Africa got some valuable points to create a bit of a buffer over England (Great Britain), but that can easily disappear over four legs.
  16. With IAAF releasing its entry standards the following nations have been removed That 10 nations in total!
  17. There's no limitation, outside of the maximum per event and athletes achieving the standard
  18. That's the reason why the standards are so tough. However, it is possible we could see that scenario. In 2018, 28 eligible athletes reach the standard in Men's 100m while at the 2016 Olympics 24 nations chose to use their universality quota in the men's 100m. This would take up 52/56 quotas meaning there is a chance for the men's 100m to go over. The options would be to allow a larger field or kick out the slowest men whom reached the entry standard. Though reading the documents the IAAF seems to be attempting to avoid this scenario by stating the highest ranked male and/or female athlete will be given the quota which could prevent some nations from just having the 100m as their default choice.
  19. Yeah, only 11 athletes achieved that mark or higher in 2018. The standards seem to be at least 1200 result score points.
  20. So far the following nations have reached the standards (10000m, marathon, walks and combined events) Men's Marathon (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (2 athletes) (2 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) Men's 20km Walk (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) Men's 50km Walk (3 athletes) Women's Marathon (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) Women's 20km Walk (3 athletes) (2 athletes) (2 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete)
  21. They're not too bad when you consider IAAF only wants 15-20 athletes to achieve them.
  22. The priority will be 1) Athletes from NOCs with no qualified athletes 2) Athletes whom achieved the Entry Standards 3) Top athletes from the World Rankings up until the max quota is reached. Hopefully all the non-qualified athlete NOCs don't all choose the 100m race.
  23. Probably not, at minimum one of Israel or Poland will take the individual spot while the second spot seems to be quite competitive (assuming one of Israel/Poland gets the team quota). Does Croatia have a great rider that's not on the Longines ranking?
