  1. Do you think they will meet the minimum requirements to compete at the Olympics?
  2. Will they compete at the World Aquatics Championships? It's a requirement for them to get a universality quota at the Olympics.
  3. 10 plus medal race, but we are already one race behind schedule due to weather.
  4. There's still a lot of racing to go, but Europe must feel good about taking all four quotas Edit: Looks like both Croatia and Spain got a BFD on the 4th race, now things are a lot more interesting...
  5. Yeah, Pan America saw an increase of 7 quotas while Europe and Asia got increases of 4 and 3 quotas respectively. Africa had a drop of 1 while Oceania lost 4. The quotas are also now divided in a way that even in a worst case scenario at least one non-United States Pan American nation will be represented in each event. One could argue that Pan America doesn't deserve as many quotas as Asia, but it's more to compensate that 14/38 quotas were handed out before any World Cup events plus the Pan American Games will take place before the last rifle/pistol and shotgun World Cups while Asia will have their qualifier after all of the world events. Plus you could argue that the group qualified through the continental qualifiers are comparable since most of the top Asian talent will have qualified through the World Cups.
  6. Well, at least things will be easier for our continent at the Pan American Games, now if only if the United States can sneak a quota in trap.
  7. Yeah, it should be a formality for Canada and Australia to pick up the final quotas, though in the very unlikely event Australia fails to advance to the cup quarters, I'd watch any match between France and a European team for potential match fixing... The European qualifying tournament will be very important as it pretty much decides which two nations will grab the final two qualification spots, even if Brazil, China, Fiji or South Africa (should they compete) fail to win their continental qualifier the European teams will be a massive favourite.
  8. I was surprised to read that news, though I suspected it was a more of a "we won't do it again *wink* *wink*" then a huge change in policy that will happen. It's a terrible policy no matter whether it's Iran, India or Spain doing it.
  9. The Finn European Championship will double as the 2019 World Olympic Qualifier with four quotas going to the highest ranked nations not yet qualified. If Australia wins a spot, it is likely that the Oceania quota will be reallocated back to the fifth ranked nation (unless someone wants a free trip to the Olympics). I imagine Bermuda will be cheering for the United States to finish in the top 4 so that winning a quota will be much easier.
  10. It's very early, Morocco likely participated in an event while the other African nations did not.
  11. That's a shame, I'm not a fan of the event, but they should be allowed to compete...
  12. Yeah, Ecuador and Colombia shouldn't have an issue qualifying to the Olympics through the World Rankings which guarantees Peru a spot. The next spot will first go to Guatemala then Mexico then Panama. Both Guatemala and Mexico have a chance at qualifying through the World Rankings, but they could just as easily be on the outside looking in.
  13. There's always going to be a bunch of a sites following Olympic qualification, there's a lot of sport fans in the world. I've been following the person on twitter and they do keep a more updated list for athletics and swimming, I just update the list once a month...
  14. The IAAF needs to have scientific proof, right now it only has enough to claim 400-1500m And before saying it's obvious, remember the IAAF tried to have the ban across all events before being forced to backtrack.
  15. We could follow the Paralympics lead and create a class system for different levels of testosterone (ignoring that there's more than testosterone levels that dictates advantage in sports)
  16. It would be more inclusive, but I doubt the IOC will do it.
  17. Google translate effect... Here's the link (in Japanese)
  18. Team Japan Nozomi Ogasa Misaki Katsuro Yukari Shibamura Atsushi Fujita Chiharu Aoki My wife Ayaka Amami Manna Ichiguchi effect Okuda Yuuki Hitomi Kawabata Natsuko Tsuji Miho Naito Yu Yamamoto Eguchi Fukiko Harada Nodoka Yamazaki Saki Yamada Eri
  19. In the end the argument wasn't about whether or not she's a woman, it was what does the "woman category" mean in sport. It's a difficult question, this isn't something easily measurable like weight classes and in the end the answer is always going to be a bit arbitrary, but as we are slowly accepting the idea that gender isn't binary it is a question that needs to be answered and unfortunately for Semenya and others like her she's on the wrong side of that line.
  20. I imagine they'll make an adjustment after the world champs if too many athletes qualify.
  21. Yeah, it's a big decision overall, not only for her and other women with her condition, but for transgender women in general. It's basically asking us to define what a woman is in a sports sense.
  22. So you basically have to make the team on the first list, not because other nations declined the quota.
