  1. Even if Australia and New Zealand qualify before the continental qualifier the rule is that at least three NOCs must compete in the event for it to be valid so at the very least he would have to defeat other athletes to qualify (and while they aren't going to win a medal they at least don't capsize all the time during practice), so no free quota for him.
  2. Not really since the selected athletes may not have the MQS in 10m air rifle.
  3. These non-Olympic weights might work during the non-Olympic qualification years, but anyone that has a chance at qualifying to the Olympics will avoid them... Only way this can work is if the IWF creates a qualification system where athletes qualify at certain events and not through the world rankings.
  4. It's not like the US needs more medals Too bad they aren't using the Pan American Games as the continental qualifier like they did in 2016
  5. Money? It's not the cheapest to send a team from Canada/USA to South America (and again for the Pan American Games)
  6. South Korea has an athlete in the top 100 which means she would qualify through the rankings. Whether she can maintain it is another question. Uzbekistan will likely qualify either through the team rankings or the individual rankings.
  7. It's a bronze level event for weightlifting meaning athletes can obtain points for Olympic qualification. Also there's no continental championship for Oceania during the first period and since most nations skipped the World Championships this was likely going to be the event most of those nations would attend, assuming they wanted to compete in weightlifting at the Olympics.
  8. I've readded since it looks like the African Women's Handball Championship was not the continental qualifier.
  9. Correct but since there are now only 2 events each in the rifle/pistol/shotgun this is no long possible
  10. Yes It could also be in three individual events, just as long as they get the MQS. Though I don't recall an athlete competing in two of rifle/pistol/shotgun...
  11. Is this considered the continental championships for both Asia and Oceania?
  12. A team can only qualify once to the Olympics so if they already qualified via the intercontinental qualifier then they can't qualify to the continental qualifier.
  13. They would save money in terms of needing fewer venues to host the games, but others like security would increase. Overall it would shrink final days from an average of 21 per day to 15 per day (assuming more events don't get added to fill the void)
  14. Entry List South Africa is the favourite to win both elite races, but they should qualify through the World Rankings, leaving a spot open for another nation. Namibia was dealt a blow with Tristan de Lange not competing. This could potentially allow Lesotho to qualify in the men's event. The women's event is quite open once you exclude South Africa. Home field advantage could help Namibia, but Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius and Zimbabwe all have a realistic chances.
  15. How about a points or elimination race like in cycling?
  16. Yeah, sadly qualification through the World Surf League is more of an intra-nation competition than an inter-nation competition
  17. There's only one quota in mountain biking, but there is a (very outside) chance for Bolivia.
  18. Priority for men: Priority for women: On paper Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the United States should qualify through the world rankings for both genders. Mexico and Colombia have an outside chance.
  19. While Canada and the United States won the men's and women's respectively, it is likely Mexico will benefit from the quotas as both Canada and the United States should qualify through the rankings. Mexico has a small chance to qualify through the rankings, but it is unlikely.
  20. That's the end plan, the Central American and Caribbean Games was a test. Whether the change happens for 2023 is debatable.
  21. More like 200-400-800-1500 Obviously we need a 25m freestyle event...
  22. Drop the 800m and add a 2500m Freestyle 800m Freestyle is like a 3000m race in athletics.
  23. Only the winner qualifies to the Olympics so it's not a huge deal, the runner-up does get a second chance, but they (Ghana or South Africa I guess) will be the underdog against Chile.
  24. Maybe the Zika virus will make an appearance in Japan
