So the transition from communism to capitalism so quickly was very difficult, as for all eastern European countries

Yes, but the former comunist opposition rules in Poland since 2005 for good. One group has stayed on the conservative side and the other side pretends to be liberal. The former communists have formed a three-way coalition with the new modern sociallists but only finished 3rd in the elections. The agrarian Christian-Democratic party that has been there since forever finished 4th and the latest far-right project was 5th. Their leader returned to Sejm after a break of 27 years  He's been through like four other far-right parties in between but was actually elected to European Parliament few years back.

Yes but after you overthrew communism their successor party came back again through elections in 1995 ?

In 1993 ;) The Polish society was shocked by the free market rule and how many jobs were lost and public companies sold to private owners only to be closed down immediately afterwards.

No, we shouldn’t try Capitalism or Communism. We should try the middle ground (I.e Democratic Socialism). Those in power in South American have socialism to satisfy their own greed. They do not deserve to be called socialists, they are autocrats.

I totally get your point about politics and corruption. I’m glad to have someone like you around. Most of the time we don’t see eye to eye on policies, but it’s clear that we both care. If more people cared the world would be better. I blame a lack of education, General laziness, and a submissive will for the reason the world hasn’t changed for the better despite al the progress humans have made. I am asking the impossible, but really every person should strive for the impossible. Those that do are generally the best, most wise people.

I told you before Democratic Sociallism only works in countries with huge natural resources and small population. That's why it works so well in Scandinavia where Norway is the wealthiest country in Europe by GDP. Norway, Switzerland and Luxembourg are the three wealthies countries in the world that are not islands or microstates (like Monaco). For comparison the population of these countries combined is 40% of Poland's population.

Evo Morales who was elected for another term in Bolivia comes from a party called Movement for Sociallism. Yeah, I think I'm gonna call him a 100% sociallist here :p Sociallism is so widespread in South America because it was a natural opposition to the previously widespread military juntas that ruled the continent until the 80s or early 90s. The entire South America is ruled by left-wing which should make you very happy indeed. Of course Bolsonaro in Brazil is right-wing but that's because the previously widely popular left-wing President was busted for - what else - corruption   so we had a shift in poitical landscape. Corruption in politics happens across all options, right-wing, left-wing, communism, capitalism or sociallism. It's a core disease and there is no cure IMO.

Poland has achieved the impossible already, we overthrew communism (labelled sociallism from the 70s) which seemed impossible like 20 years prior to 1989. We can't do any better than that IMO. Thirty years on and our political landscape is divided between conservative-rights who remain conservative and former conservative-rights who pretend to be liberal (especially in business). The new left-wing still has members of former Communist Party calling the shots but they will be gone in natural way in like 15-20 more years.

I wouldn’t call it the entitlement era. The Elite have only gotten richer since WW2, and the common person has really improved their economic status (especially in developing countries). Capitalism is spinning out of control and people are finally realizing that. All the protestors want is decent pay, a stable government, and a less corrupt government. I don’t feel like that’s too much to ask.

What is there to look for though? If capitalism ain't getting it done, shall we go back to communism? Actually most of the South American countries are run by sociallists already and that doesn't seem to work either. Politics & corrpution go hand in hand since power & greed are two of the oldest traits in human character for centuries. You're asking for the impossible IMO.

Seriously though, I'm never a big fan of one person dominating, but the way Hirscher sometimes burned down the entire course behind him and utterly destroyed his rivals was breathtaking to watch. I won't miss him dominating, but I will definitely miss those runs.

I remember Alberto Tomba and he was far more exciting to watch. Hirscher was flat out boring.

The amount of countries having major protests right now is kind of crazy. I’m getting some Arab Spring vibes again. Although I’d say this is more of a South America Bonfire.

This is the entitlement era. People feel like the world owns them something when in fact it owns them nothing. South American politics is a corrupt tire fire for ages though. This won't change anytime soon.

The Astros have become a villains of the World Series in the US. Anyone, not an Astros fan is cheering for the Nationals now. Odd situation all around, and totally despicable behavior from the Astros organization.

Also, remember that last year during the World Series, it was their players who made racist gestures towards a Japanese pitcher.

Nationals are the cindirella story so obviously everyone cheers for the underdog. Astros is the closest thing to a powerhouse in MLB and that always draws hate. The Yankees best pitcher this season also got busted for DV and I don't think the Yankees lost any of their popularity? Is everyone in NY going after the Mets now? Obviously not. If Astros didn't win 107 games in regular season with highest SO pct. nobody would give a damn about some female reporters. Sadly politics tries to mess up with the sport yet again.

Maybe I shouldn't say so, but he's about 50% correct - about half of our nation are racist pricks. Or "at least" xenophobic pricks. But that's only half.

That's what happens when 98% of the population is white :p We never liked the foreigners all that much to begin with even before the Muslim immigrants hoopla. Americans will never understand that, they're going the opposite way, in 20 years time most of their population will be black anyway.

If anyone is hoping to get on the US election, I’d tell you to go ahead and slap some money down on him right :(. I can’t even with the opposition. I mean it really shouldn’t be this hard to a) impeach the guy or b) beat him in the election. I have a feeling we’re about to go 0-2. I also have no clue who I’m supporting in the election. At this I might just go for Buttigieg because his the only who has good arguements, solid plans, and checks a diversity box. Plus, I like the guy. I like Warren, but she’s just not honest enough about her policies for me.

I told you before the Dems in-fighting only helps Trump's cause. The endless debates are useless when the sitting POTUS runs for re-election and enjoys a head start already. If you're putting all your eggs in the impeachment basket then it's even worse.

Honesty is the last thing that matters in politics esp. in  a two-party system labelled as "democracy". It's always us vs them, it's the eternal battle for power and nothing else. You have no third choice and everyone knows it. The rich white old guys will come to the fore again. If you can't find the next Kennedy/Obama, you're fucked. Dems have only won the Presidential post-WWII elections (sans Truman still in the trauma years) with the same model - young, unproven but promising guys. Kennedy, Carter, Clinton and Obama all have the same in common. LBJ was so out of his league he didn't even run for the second term. He only got the war points like Truman but that proved to be a horrible choice. Dems ain't winning the elections with Biden or Warren let alone Sanders off a heart attack.

You mean Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, formally known as Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania which changed to Commonwealth of Poland with the Constitution of 3rd May 1791?

It's pointless talking to this guy since he pretends to know more about Polish history than we do yet he doesn't even recognize the difference between Russia & Lithuania. So I wouldn't trust him to recognize a difference between Kingdom & Grand Duchy either. Plus he thinks all Poles are racist pricks so there is that.

So Chile went from 0-60 real quick. Gotta love South American politics. Ecuador’s on fire, Chile’s on fire, Venezuela’s on fire, Peru’s on fire. Those are literal, not figure fires by the way.

So in Chile we’ve seen a movement begun by kids slightly younger than myself. I have to admit that I really don’t understand the issue, but I’m glad to see kids taking politics and law seriously (though the fires were unnecessary)

One can argue South America saw less unrest during all the military regimes of the 60s & 70s. Guess people are fed up with the democracy over there already

I’m not sure about the validity of a referendum where the leading google search the day after is “What is the EU?” and “What does Brexit mean?”. The referendum was vote on a idea (a very dumb one at that). They didn’t vote on a plan. Cameron is the one to be blamed. May did her best, and I commend her for that. Johnson is Britain’s Trump, so enough said there.

The problem is Britain is that there’s no good party to challenge the Tories. The LIB/DEM are gaining, but I still don’t think they’re strong enough to beat them. I do agree that Corbyn needs to go badly.

UK has the same problem like USA. Two-party system makes the entire political landscape stuck in mud. Moreover the first past the post voting system favors the two biggest parties even more. Hail to the democracy! The politicians have learned how to spin the democracy into their favor, it's always us or them, no third party will spoil the result.

When it comes to politics, people often do not know what they're voting for. The Brexit campaign was a bunch of lies, people voted for Brexit and Brexit only, not for "no Brexit without a deal". Another epic flaw of the democracy. The entire post-voting circus was centered around this frickin' deal with EU which somehow nobody talked about before the vote. Brexit puppets wanted the control back, hell, they can't even control their own parliament now.

The Kurds are the largest ethnic group in the Middle East without laws/land/traditions to govern themselves. They deserve equal representation on the international level. They’ve also proved for the last 20 years that they’re capable of running a peace/tolerant nation. Again, I said that the Kurds wouldn’t get Turkish land under my terms. They get the land they defended and saved from ISIS.

Tradition is dangerous. If we got by the principals of tradition, there is not Polish state. You’d be Lithuanian or German right now (which isn’t bad tbh)

Yeah, I know you're anti-Polish so your words don't surprise me. USA always wants to control everything and speaks from the position of power no matter if right- or left-wing. If tradition is so bad then why is your country named after an Italian merchant in first place? However your history lessons need a fact-check, the Kievan Rus was the dominant Eastern Power long before Lithuania even became a state. Poland was always divided by Russia & Germany and not by Lithuania so you're clearly wrong about that.

That ISIS land formally belongs to Syria so there's no way around that. The Kurds & Palestinians are riding on the same boat. Nobody will grant them a right to have an independent state no matter how liberal and socially just they are :p
