  2. How on earth is it not a huge step backwards to present homosexuality, a rather natural thing which really doesn't hurt anyone other than people who are victims of homophobes, as something that should be hidden far away? It really is perfectly fine to go "you're a guy, and you're in love with this person, cool...but that's also a guy, so no, too bad" (which laws like these basically imply)? That has nothing to do with moral superiority (puh..lease), and all with allowing people to live their lives in ways that doesn't hurt anyone (hence why pedophiles and such shouldn't even be anywhere near this discussion, because they do, in fact, hurt others).

  3. I don't know how you do it @MHSN but big props for somehow being able to make sense of this qualifying process and answering everyone's (including mine) billion questions about it

  5. Thank you @MHSN for sharing all of your knowledge about some of these sports, also weightlifting. Makes it a lot easier for us to understand these qualification processes.

  7. Another story from my days in . Every year there was a national sports meet, of which the highlight was the Slow Bicycle Race, sort of like a track stand. For many years consecutively it was won by the father of the Monarch, the elderly Seri Begawan Sultan, who somehow always managed to beat the cream of the nation’s young, fit, jungle combat-trained Army Officers. People in Brunei are very polite, everyone clapped.

  8. Ah there it is. The magic Almaty competition.

  9. This round robin system seems cruel to me. These athletes already had many matches today, and now each will fight 3 more just to eliminate 1 out of the 4.

  10. Yes, the routine was sooo good and creative, sad they didn't qualify, the deserved 90+ points in that free routine.

  11. so here we go Bozan and Juettner are already qualified for the final round these 2 matches will determine the two other athletes for the final round Sadeghi vs Putri Feracci vs Chien

  12. Anacan failed to qualify but she was guaranteed a spot via continental quota that means Grande (61kg) is also guaranteed a spot no matter what she will do here.

  20. doesn't change for . Ireland will have a chance if 1) India rejects the quota, 2) no wild card will be awarded in this weight but it will be important for Poland @rybak this way Albania qualifies in 81kg and Poland in 96kg. and again keep in mind I'm not sure about anything I'm writing here

  21. Continental quotas ladder @phelps by my count Semeraro is 100% safe. there is no scenario that both +61 spots been taken before Europe. no big change on the men's side, I will leave that until tomorrow. Oceania: 1. Anacan (Kata - Rank 9) - Qualified Continental Quota Africa: 1. Abdelaziz (+61kg - Rank 5) 2. Sayed (55kg - Rank 11) - failed to qualify directly America: 1. Grande (61kg - Rank 9) - will go to Tokyo even if doesn't qualify directly 2. Kumizaki (55kg - Rank 19) - failed to qualify directly Asia: 1. Alipour (61kg - Rank 6) - will go to Tokyo even if doesn't qualify directly 2. Li (55kg - Rank 8) - failed to qualify directly 3. Berultseva (+61kg - Rank 9) Europe: 1. Semeraro (+61kg - Rank 11)- will go to Tokyo even if doesn't qualify directly 2. Serogina (61kg - Rank 12) 3. Plank (55kg - Rank 14) - failed to qualify directly

  22. I hopr she doesn't know that. China counts on her qualifying through the match then Li Ranran can get the continental quota.

  25. anything above 25 is good. 26 is great. but it seems refs are too generous here with the scores and as I said these scores are irrelevant for the next round. she can't repeat this Kata in the next round. you can see the name of Kata next to each competitor's name.

  26. Including kata into olympics rather than 4 kumite events was a hugr mistake. It gives a great argument to those who do not want to see karate at olympics.

  27. I think that's unlikely. there are 2 guys above him and removing only Colombia won't be enough. I think Albania will take that Asian unused quota. and Poland will go if they really ban Colombia. Canada will be next if someone gets injured or banned. which is always possible in this sport. I don't think Canada can receive the host unused quota. (even if one is available in this weight) that's for countries "not represented yet" this is interesting, when I was reviewing things, there were no chance for ZWARYCZ but now it seems he has a pretty good chance. I'm quite sure he wouldn't even think about going to Tokyo in his wildest dreams this qualification system does wonders. Poland may have 3 male weightlifters in Tokyo after all.

  32. thanks for your calculation... it's really great news, because she hasn't recovered yet at 100% since the injury that made her miss the Lisbon K1PL and lose in the 1st match at the Europeans... hopefully, now she can get better before the start of the Olympics...

  33. Exactly! After reading about it the other day, I searched for a video and was stunned. So much different than a run-of-the-mill artistic swimming routine.

  34. Yes. that would be Radwa, you can't replace her but with this result, Alipour (61kg) is guaranteed the Asian quota even if she loses tomorrow. I'm 100% sure she doesn't know that. of course only if my calculations are correct. I'm 99% sure I'm not wrong.

  35. and this is a quick recap of those who are going to take part into the final round robin groups later today and fight for the 3 Olympic spots available in each class... women's Kata: Dilara Bozan / Jasmin Juettner / Alexandra Feracci / Fatemeh Sadeghi women's Kumite -55kg: Moldir Zhangbyrbay / Anna Chernysheva / Dorota Banaszczyk / Ivet Goranova men's Kumite -67kg: Eray Samdan / Yves Martial Tadissi / Abdel Rahman Almasatfa / Firdovsi Farzaliyev

  36. I think yes, but the man in charge of all those calculations is @MHSN I'm terrible when it comes to maths... by the way, Ivet Goranova is the last to go through and find a place in the round robin of the women's -55kg class...

  37. Same. All of the teams worked so hard, but my heart is broken for the American girls. I can’t believe it...... only .2. Hopefully Andrea will remain as coach because I’d like to see them make a run for 2024..... but I don’t think that the same girls are going to stay around that long.

  40. I think both are. It honestly would make just as much sense to avoid v and v in a draw as FIFA/UEFA tends to avoid other matches that are difficult for the organizers.

  41. yeah people want to live "easier" with their family around but that's not really his reason to leave Iran. that was probably the only stupid thing came to his mind. that was more of a joke. I'm quite sure he doesn't even believe his wife is a worthy coach. btw congrats to "almost" two quotas today. Turkey is heading to have a full team of 8 athletes in Karate. which will be super amazing considering the small number of quotas we have in this sport. just for the record Samdan and Tadissi made it to the final round. we will have two more after the repechage

  46. No playoff, there will be a final round-robin pool of 4 with the two finalists and the two "bronze medallists". Top 3 will get the quota. So even reaching the final is not enough to qualify.

  47. And she just improved it too 75.52m, just 21 cm from the NR!

  48. And she’s very young in a sport where people normally peak older. That throw would have gotten a medal at the last World Championships and Olympics.

  49. there is an interesting thing in the rules, it doesn't say NOCs are allowed to pick whoever they want (in case they have more than enough athletes inside the qualification zone) https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/05/T2020-Revised-QS_Application-Process-FINAL-04052021.pdf I have a feeling this is NOT correct and NOCs can select their team (for example China with lots of weightlifters in 1st place) but let's pretend that's correct. in this case IWF will select the qualified weighlitfters based on this : 1. the highest ranking 2. the highest ROBI point for individual result (not the total ROBI point) in this case Li Fabin will be left out from the Chinese squad because his best ROBI point (1171) is lower than other 4 Chinese guys. by my count these guys are going to the Olympics, but keep in mind this is just imaginary, I also keep Vietnam and Colombia in the list. since only 75 emoji are allowed I have to make it two posts 61 == 67 == 73 == 81 ==
