  1. In karate, Uruguay finished third at the Under-21 Pan American Championship held at Mexico City. The team featured Camilo Balsa, Francisco Barrios and Nicolás Deandrea. In athletics, Andrea Pereira was the best South American at the 100 km Ultramarathon World Championship held in Berlin, and got the national women's record with 8:34'13. Also in the women's race, Mary Grassi did 9:21'34 and Natalia Techera did 10:12'12. In the men's race, Fernando Martínez did 8:06'35, Héctor Gómez did 8:37'06, and Federico Molina did 8:54'03.
  2. In swimming, Uruguay will have 9 competitors at the Junior World Championship: Luna Chabat, Angelina Solari, Pilar Shaban, Catalina Gómez, María Inés Mateo, Diego Aranda, Enzo Duffey, Mateo Gómez, and Simón Rombys. In basketball, Uruguay lost to the United States 105-71 for the World Cup qualifiers. On Monday they will play Puerto Rico here, I might attend the match.
  3. In surf, Ignacio Pignataro and Julián Schweizer were third and fourth at the Pan American Championship in Panamá.   6. In cycling, Mauricio Moreira won the Volta a Portugal, a UCI Europe Tour 2.1 road race. It's the biggest success since Wynant's silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In rugby union, the Teros won the World Rugby Sevens Challenger and qualified to the 2022-23 Sevens World Series.
  7. In surf, Marco Giorgi had the worst week in his life. He went to California to compete at the US Open of Surfing. But his boards never arrived to the airport. Then he felt bad and spent a day at the hospital, where they couldn't diagnose anything.   8. At the Women's Youth Handball World Championship, Uruguay lost by relatively narrow margins to Norway Brazil and Czech Republic, then by 42-18 against Spain and by 29-19 against Argentina. Then they lost to India 27-25, and won over Algeria 29-26 to rank 31st.
  9. In football, Luis Suárez signed with Nacional. In the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals, Nacional lost 4-0 on aggregate score against Atlético Goianiense. The latter is currently 19th in the Brasileirão Serie A...
  10. In basketball, the Uruguay women's national team lost to Chile 55-43, to Colombia 71-49 and to Brazil 104-47. In the repechage semifinals they lost to Paraguay 62-59. In the 7th place match they defeated Ecuador 61-52, their first win since 2014.
  11. The 2022 Saudi Tour was part of the UCI Asia Tour. However it drew 8 WorldTeams. The Abu Dhabi Tour joined the WorldTour in 2017. In 2019 it merged with the Dubai Tour and became the UAE Tour.

The Rugby Championship starts this Saturday. * South Africa vs New Zealand (at Mbombela) * Argentina vs Australia (at Mendoza) It will be played over 6 rounds, but not a proper home and away double round robin. Argentina will host Australia twice; Australia will host South Africa twice; South Africa will host New Zealand twice; and New Zealand will host Argentina twice.

  20. After four years, the South American Women's Basketball Championship is set to start next week at San Luis, Argentina. Group A: Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Paraguay. Group B: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay. Like in 2018, there's only 8 teams. Uruguay returned, whereas Perú is now missing.
  21. In basketball, the Uruguay women's national team is set for the South American Championship to be held in San Luis, Argentina. Of the 12 players, there's two playing in the United States (Agustina Talasimov and Ana Lua Döring Speranza), one in Spain (Florencia Niski), and one in Argentina (Josefina Zeballos). Also notable is Camila Kirschenbaum, who returned from the United States for family reasons.
  22. In athletics, Déborah Rodríguez did 2'03.04 at the 800 m event of the World Championships. That's 3 seconds above her record. In rowing, there's 14 Uruguayans competing at the Under-23 World Championship (actually one entered an under-19 event). There's plenty of expectations, especially from Felipe Klüver.
  23. In handball, the Uruguay women's under-18 team is travelling to North Macedonia to play the Women's Youth World Championship. We have only two players from non-Uruguayan clubs, Savina Bergara and Emiliana Heilmann (both in Spanish clubs). They are in group G, together with Norway, Czech Republic and Brazil.
  24. Chile defeated United States and qualified to its first World Cup. United States will play the repechage against Portugal, Hong Kong and Kenya.
