  1. First death in the LA area
  2. Me: reads entire articles and pages about how people should probably go under quarantine around the world for a 2/3 weeks. My college: classes remain as normal, attendance is still required, also...don’t cough?
  3. A event that was already struggling financially I might add...
  4. US will do a good job of marketing it. People here will probably know about it.
  5. The World Games would actually be unaffected by the move thinking about it now. None of the athletes, save a few climbers and the softball teams, would be at the Olympics. I think it’s unfair to force other events to move in order to host the Olympics. If the Olympics have to be moved, their credibility/prestige will already be hurt. Plus, it would further discourage nations from hosting the Olympics, and other events that are somewhat required for the Olympics.
  6. Well you have the World Games, World Aquatics Championships, World Athletics Championships, and other large events in 2021 as well. There’s more room in 2022, and I’d be cool to have the Olympics in the same year again.
  7. @bmo @dezbee2008 @Rdbc @Quaker2001 I’d like to have a fun little exercise in language. If you guys could answer the questions below that’d be great. Answer the questions using the terms you’d use where you grew up, or that you used as kid, or that you use now. What do you call the road next to the highway? What do you call the road where there is a set speed limit, but no traffic lights (at least a for a great distance)? What do you call a large cat indigenous to the America’s? What do you call the place where streets meet in a circle (where cars go around that circle)? What do you call a fizzy sweet drink? Do you use any gender neutral pronouns besides they? What’s one thing unique (either word, phrase, pronunciation) about how people speak where you live?
  8. Microsoft already pulled out weeks ago. The conference was already dead
  9. Can’t wait to read everyone’s “end of the year” posts at this point At this 2021 is looking like a jam-packed year. Personally, I’d prefer moving the Summer Olympics to 2022 (if we have to). We can get some of the old “happens every four years” nostalgia back, and there’s way less international sporting events that year. Athletes would also have a shorter season geared specifically for the Olympics. If this were to happen, I’d almost be in favor of full reset of Olympic qualifications.
  10. I think it was an ayatollah, but that was harder to spell and I’m lazy.
  11. I’m pretty sure people do want to hear about evidence when talking about things like this. If you can’t provide evidence for the “cures” you claim, you’re no better than the Iranian minister who claimed people should shove cotton balls up their asses. There’s a huge difference between fact and opinion. You’re entitled to your opinion, but you shouldn’t go around telling people it’s the facts when you yourself can’t even prove it.
  12. Since we’re a bit low on sports right now (thanks Coronavirus), I thought I’d ask what everyone’s favorite pieces of literature are? Here’s a few of mine: Favorite Book: Things Fall Apart Favorite Poem: A Flor e a Nausea Favorite Myth: Ragnarok
  13. This scaled down version of the flame ceremony has me really bummed out. As an agnostic, this is about as close as I come to witnessing a religious event (at least in terms of how sacred it is for me). All of the fun has been sucked out of it, and I honestly don’t even want to watch it now. I might just rewatch the Rio 2016 one honestly. I will say that I don’t blame the HOC, IOC, or Tokyo2020 at all. They’re just had to play by the rules Coronavirus has forced them to.
  14. The bidding race for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games has begun. There is an actual race since two cities have submitted bids. The candidates are: León Santo Domingo Personally I hope Santo Domingo wins, but I wish the best for the Mexican bid too (in hopes that our Mexican users may be able to attend the games). 15. Welcome to the forum @FeelingVeryOlympic!
  16. 2020 IBSF Para Bobsleigh World Championships in Lillehammer have been cancelled.
  17. I have a friend at the CDC who says there’s no evidence to backup that claim.
  18. Dunfee shared a tweet about the walkers qualification plight after that event, and he listed a 50km in Costa Rica as another possibility...
  19. Cameroon is quickly becoming the king/queen of “the choke” this qualification cycle.
  20. I didn’t even know there was a World Cup circuit for aesthetic group gymnastics
  21. The poetic justice done to Gaetz by Coronavirus gives good vibes
  22. FISU.TV had live-streams and replays from this weeks World University Championships.
  23. Which is actually why I think we should add more than subtract. While 3x3 Basketball has been highly unpopular with diehard international sports fans, many (and I mean many) countries have fielded teams. Plus, at every tournament I’ve watched, the stands are full of vocal, entertained fans, which only adds value to the sport. The qualification system most certainly needs to be improved though, and the number teams should go from 8 to 16 per gender. As much as I love Modern Pentathlon, I do think it’s days are number. I think it will for sure survive the next decade or two, but I don’t know what it’s future looks like after that.
