So we have @hckošice here, and since @Cobi doesn't know the contents behind the panels, he might join as well.

Anyone else? While we give 5 more minutes, let's reveal the panels.

Ladies and Gentlemen, behold Spain and its culture!

    Hola Totallympics!

Welcome to the Draw for the
Totallympics Annual International Song Contest 2023

With less than a week before the event begins, I have once more the pleasure to help with the draw of this edition hosted by our fantastic organizer @Cobi.

As per usual, the draw is to be conducted by revealing the contents behind two panels, with the first one some fine paintings of Spanish artists hiding the ordinal number that will determine the time slot  for the juries to reveal their votes.

The second panel shows some of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites and cultural patrimony of the host country, which in turn conceal the flag of each national jury, thus letting us know the exact place to cast the vote and will also assign the contests to one of the nine teams for the Team competition, which in this edition are:

     Teams Voting Positions  TOLEDO EAGLES 1 11 20 30    PAMPLONA BULLS 2 12 21 31    MURCIA FLAMINGOS 3 13 22 32    BARCELONA DRAGONS 4 10 14 23 33  ZARAGOZA STORKS 5 15 24 34    MADRID BEARS 6 16 25 29 35  GRANADA LYNXES 7 17 26 36    MALLORCA DOLPHINS 8 18 27 37    VALENCIA TORTOISES 9 19 28 38   As we continue in a few moments, let me hear from my volunteers.
    Are you there: @Cinnamon Bun @hckošice @heywoodu?

The draw will start in just a few minutes, so let's present the 8th (and last for the moment) traditional folk dance!

    Isa

The isa comes from the same trunk as the variety of peninsular jotas. In some parts of the Archipelago they are still called jotas or jotillas, but in Gran Canaria they are known as isas.

The isa derives rhythmically and melodically from the peninsular jota . It is characterized by having an intense ternary rhythm, a fast and happy song, and for being one of the best-known collective dances in the Archipelago. The Canarian isa is played with guitar, lute, bandurria and timple.

We are still missing 5 nations. Since we have the draw on Saturday and I will be busy tomorrow, I don't mind giving a few extra hours to these 5 users to send their votes if they are still willing to participate.

    I really liked these 4!

Fun Fact, Laura no está is the cover of an Italian song that was a very big hit in Spain in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Rules about selecting the songs for the Festival are the same like for the contest, which means that preferably the selected song had to be released after January 1st 2022.

The first post of the thread has been updated to keep track of all the songs presented for the Festival of Music and now also includes links to the cultural posts in case you want to check them out.

I will inaugurate the Festival of Music by picking  and . I already have in mind a couple of songs from these countries and I will share them during the week.

    Chotis

"Chotis" is a dance and music style that apparently originated in Bohemia in the late 18th century, quickly making its way to other parts of Europe and America. It is characterized by its slow and graceful rhythm, and is often performed as a ballroom dance.

The chotis is usually performed by couples, who dance to the accompaniment of a small orchestra or a single piano. The dance is characterized by its smooth, gliding steps and elegant movements, and is typically performed in a relaxed, leisurely manner.

The chotis was very popular in Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was considered one of the most sophisticated and refined forms of Spanish dance. Although its popularity has declined in recent decades, the chotis remains an important part of Spanish cultural heritage, and is still performed and appreciated in Madrid.
