A bit of both actually. Brittany Fraser is out on the baby break. Kellock and Von Martels sort of disappeared after Tokyo. Laliberte and Torkkelli were selected based on required scores. Chia and Lane came close to the selection criteria, but finally the federation was not interested to finance their trip... What I mind about the Commonwealth Games is the disbalance of nations. Few powerhouses, joined by many more minions. You always get events where Canada is followed by Malawi or something on the leaderboard lol. This also results in 5 nations being able to host it, but really only 2-3 wanting it...

This is exactly my first sentence in the post above.

A historic day is coming up tomorrow in Croatia. After decades of speculation, planning, delays, breaking ground, then stopping the project entirely (due to the 2008-09 recession!!!), and then finally restarting it in 2018 with EU funds... The Pelješac Bridge will finnally be opened, and therefore, all Croatian land area will be connected at last. Just to emphasize how big of a deal this is, a special Opening ceremony will be held tomorrow evening, which will be broadcast on the national television. I have known of this project basically all my life, so yeah, feels unreal that finally it is here.

Sadly no history for Croatia as Karen Pavicic has pulled out from the competition today. It's not a case of injury, just seems to be her evaluation based on her experience with Totem. And indeed, their international experience is as limited as it can be. You need 66% from two Grand Prix classes to qualify for the World Championships, and that's exactly how many Grand Prix classes she has started (once in November and once in June). I am sad, but hopefully the ball will start rolling next year, and then again in Paris of course. In other news, Henri Ruoste has unfortunately withdrawn too (not fit to compete). Finnish chances of Olympics qualification here are gone. Estelle Wettstein has withdrawn too (personal reasons). And just this morning things still looked very bright with still not a single withdrawal in the news...

Malo čudno, obzirom da je već doputovala u Europu. Ali opet i ne čudi, jer sa Totemom ima stvarno minimalno iskustvo u natjecanjima, pa sada baš ići nastupiti u nogometnom stadionu u Danskoj... Mogao je biti šok.

Add another problem. If athletes can no longer qualify by time, then what's to stop them from walking 200-1500 m in the heats?

Apparently, nobody wants to see lucky losers coming through and winning medals. Who knew?
