  1. 1974 World Dressage Championships were held right in the centre of Copenhagen, in front of the Christianborg Castle which holds the Danish government. Reiner Klimke and Mehmed became the World champions.
  2. Bolivia scored more own goals than regular goals in this tournament.
  3. No, eventing will be held in Italy in September. And unfortunately, no new name has come forward in the Argentinian dressage since Manfredi took a step back and Protzen had the accident.
  4. What an epic flop this is for the brand-new, youthful and urban distance of arbitrary 35 km.
  5. Indeed. Shericka Jackson is somehow emulating Betty Cuthbert and Irena Szevinska, somehow, in this day and age of highly professional sport.
  6. Magic shoes WR, really. Johnson getting beaten and Flo-Jo almost too in one day should raise all kinds of red flags.
  7. Good to see Sandra back on the podium. Apparently she is set on competing until.... Brisbane.
  8. 1970 World Champions in dressage, Elena Petushkova & Pepel
  9. Eurodressage is posting reviews of the previous World Championships. Quite a story from Aachen 1970, when Soviet Union upset the German hosts to take both gold medals in dramatic finishes. Ok, I was already familiar with that, but I didn't know that Liselott Linsenhoff lost her massive lead in the individual final largely thanks to, well, crashing her car into a fountain while on traveling to the venue that day. https://www.eurodressage.com/2022/07/19/1970-world-championships-aachen-soviet-union-defeats-germany
  11. In which sense exactly? Better coverage? That would have been fairly unrealistic. Quality of sports coverage has really gone downhill since the pandemic started. Remember all those lovely shooting finals in Tokyo where the audience was left literally clueless since there was no graphics? Yeah, for me this was above average, for what it's worth.
  12. Finally caught up with the gold medal match in beach handball. Qatari player throwing a hissy fit about not touching the cord, even though the instant replay showed that he definitely did touch it, was just hilarious. Very deserved red card was awarded. Good riddance. We finish with seven medals (2 golds + 5 silvers) in beach handball, boules, kickboxing, karate and finnswimming. Really an exceptional performance all-around. It all started with those hugely surprising finnswimming medals, and it just kept going.
  13. Cheung wins, first ever WG gold for Hong Kong. And now it's time for the canoe polo.
  14. Frame 2 over after about 100 breaks... All tied up now.
  15. Egyptian pockets the cue ball whilst attempting a snooker.
  16. Wow, that is some low level snooker... I love it. Shahim concedes Frame 1 after putting in a foul ball.
  17. Sounds like just more of the same as in Tokyo. I think athletes just started doing it on purpose, banking on that the judges will never have the balls to DQ everyone in the Top 10 or something. Not doing anything is the least scandalous option, as funny as it is, but yeah, these judges stand to lose their jobs if race walking falls under severe scrutiny.
  18. Funnily enough, Krunić will contest the final against / Bernarda Pera. She took the easy way out and switched to USA in 2017.
  19. Totallympics could make the mainstream news cycle should they become 3rd.
  20. Not sure what is he still trying to achieve here... He is not doing much of a service to neither American Samoa nor the sport of skeleton. Did he fly too close to the sun back then? He has sort of burnt out.
  21. Yeah, but in this case other medalists are getting downgraded based on the IOC not following the rules. IOC not knowing/not applying their own rules is not the other athletes' fault. Downgrades should not happen period. And actually, if we went one rule further, then there is clear ground to DQ Thorpe again for being a professional athlete. Why should a rule about results being final 30 days after the event be applied and not the rule about professional athletes being barred from competing?
  22. Ulla Hakansson made a bit of a history today just by competing, aged 84, at an international event (CDIO) in Falsterbo. She is an Olympic medalist from Munich and Los Angeles. Riding Diddy Cool, she placed 13th today in the Grand Prix with 64.848%
