Britain ran a 37.78 this year
You're right. It doesn't matter anyway because if Canada is a medal contender they should be fine, and they were.
-
The seeding is ridiculous though. That first heat had the silver and bronze medalists from the world championships, the fifth place team and the Americans who could have won gold if not for a botched exchange. The next heat has Jamaica and............Germany?
-
The only option, if the Americans get advanced, is to drop the Chinese since there are only 8 lanes. But the Chinese qualified legitimately.
-
Okay, better replay. Brazilian did not step out of her lane, it was the upper bodies that collided. I'm not sure what the rule is there.

Apparently the Brazilian athlete knocked it out of Felix's hands
Could go either way. The replays I saw indicated contact, but didn't show the Brazilian out of her lane. But the replay wasn't that great. Since it's the Americans, I'm going to bet that they get into the finals, though. Not being anti-American, just saying that certain countries always get the 'benefit of the doubt'. It's why Russian athletes are in Rio, while most other countries would not be if they did the same thing (and why Sun is allowed to keep swimming).
-
Americans are out of the women's relay! (Not celebrating, just surprised).
-
So.....one of Canada's relayers is named Farah Jacques. I can't be the only one who is now singing "Frere Jacques" in my head.
-
Warner was okay in discus. He'll likely hold onto 2nd. He's pretty weak in pole vault though coming up so we'll see what happens there.

Not to sound too pessimistic, but while Canada may end up at around the same medals as 2012 our diversity has dropped. Yes it is nice (and important) that we are winning medals in swimming and athletics, but it isn't worth it if our other sports drop in quality (though to be fair sports like rowing were already dying before swimming and athletics rose)
I think they'll easily surpass 2012 level, as they already have with golds. Canada won medals in 11 different disciplines in 2012, and 7 so far in Rio with good shots at soccer, golf, canoe/kayak and wrestling.
While I appreciate diversity, Canada rarely has athletes capable of multiple medals (in both summer and winter games), and rarely do well in events that offer lots of medals (i.e. swimming and athletics in summer; skiing events in the winter). So the rise in swimming and athletics, with stars like Oleksiak and De Grasse, is very welcome.

Well, tomorrow should be fun on the track. The first look at the 4x100 relay (men and women), Bishop in the 800m and then Warner and De Grasse finals to end the night.
-
Well, Netty probably wouldn't have gotten a medal anyway with the way those women jumped. Still disappointed for her, though.

After the first day of Decathlon
Eaton 4621
Kazmirek 4500
Warner 4489
Mayer 4435
Taiwo 4419
Well, Warner has PBs much better than Kazmirek in all the events tomorrow except for pole vault. I can't find Mayer's PBs, though. Anyway, I'm not too worried.

Like him, don't like him, but this shows once again what a class act Usain Bolt is. He is being interviewed on live tv, but when a national anthem starts playing for a ceremony, he wants to wait because "you don't talk through the anthem."
Classy.
-
De Grasse is in a lane next to Bolt for the semi in the 200m, just like in the 100m.
-
Warner with a decent result in high jump. Gains on Eaton, but only 1 point ahead of 3rd and 9 ahead of 4th, 19 ahead of 5th.
-
Yeats will go for bronze!

Canada loses a jump off for bronze in equestrian jumping.
Eric Lamaze finished in 1st in the individual qualification. -

Wow Drouin... again a battle between him, Barshim and Bondarenko.
Congrats Canada
and also for the only Qatari athlete that has my support
To be honest, it wasn't much of a battle. Drouin didn't fault until he already had the gold. But yes, those two are also great athletes. I love the win, but pole vault last night was much more dramatic.

The China and to an extent Serbia games were good. But all the other games were horrible. This team has a long way to go
Their end in the last game was just sad. I don't have a better word for it. The end to this game was the same. In any sport, it's not about the final outcome so much as how you got there. And in both games, Canada just disappeared when it mattered. They were both close, especially this one, but I knew they weren't going to win early in the second half. Like I said, just sad.
-
Not just because they lost here, but after the last two game I think I overestimated Canada's abilities. In my defence, I don't know basketball that much. Obviously much better than past teams, but still not in the upper level. Kia Nurse has been a disappointment here.

Nurse is 2-16. That's shocking.
She's been very disappointing this game.
-
Canada was leading by quite a bit, and then had so many chances to be in this game in the 4th. They didn't deserve to win at all. I mean, you throw the ball out with 30 seconds left down by 5? Sad.
-
Jesus, just terrible.

Filion and Benfeito are into the finals in diving, but they need to be way more sharp to compete for a medal.
