Well Canada's only taekwondo athlete will play Korea in the first round... what luck
Canada's draws here have been ridiculous.

I can't find the anthem version, but here is Greg Joy's silver medal jump from Montreal. My parents lived there at the time. They speak of it fondly. For some reason, this jump touched the nation at the time.

I mean, I had since she was sort of the star of the trials. But I had not heard much of her before the trials (only heard about her because of Taylor Ruck, who was seen as a bigger potential breakout star a year ago).
Yeah, I think I mentioned here before the Games that I had hopes for the Canadian ladies in one of the freestyle relays. I though Oleksiak had chances to make some finals, too. But that was the 'old' standard. Just making the finals was seen as an accomplishment. It was so hilarious how, for myself, I went from disbelief on Day 1 when they took bronze to disappointment on the last day in the pool when they didn't get a medal. And the future looks so good with that group.

Ok, now on to basketball.

I hope everything ends up all right
Thank you. It's not that serious, like I said. But Drouin certainly let me forget about it for a while.

I did, and some swim experts predicted her to make final in some events
Well, I mean I read her name so I was familiar. But never expected what she delivered. No one predicted what happened in the pool, not even their coaches. -
For the 1500m, the Canadian announcer: "This is slow. This is really slow. This is disappointingly slow".

Considering we had no athletes that were big favourites for the gold, this is a really good result to have 3 golds. Different judges or a slightly worse touch at the wall and we could have 1 gold
And that's sport. Even us Olympics geeks, who ever heard of Penny Oleksiak two weeks ago? Now she's mentioned in the same breath as Donovan Bailey, Clara Hughes and Cindy Klassen. -
I wasn't born when it actually happened in 1976, but CBC used to show Greg Joy's silver medal jump from Montreal during the anthem when they signed off for the night (I realize this means nothing to some of you children
). It would be grand if CBC had enough self awareness to reproduce that tonight with Drouin's gold medal jump.

I got some bad news today (not that bad, everyone's healthy) and I really needed a win. Thought the soccer girls would deliver, but I'll take this. This feels good. Oh, and the whiskey.

Canada is used to winning medals in all the niche events... suddenly 9 between Athletics and Swimming lol, we'll take it
First gold in swimming since 1992. First gold in athletics since 1996.

Canada wins its traditional third gold medal.
Haha. But certainly better than London. And still more chances.

Nettey fails to qualify for the Long Jump final, expected after the article about a slight back injury
Total disappointment. Pegged her as a medal threat.

Clears 2.38!

I believe Drouin is guaranteed a medal at this point.

Ireland!

LOL, even though the bar fell down, Grabarz's jump was legal after an appeal.
I actually agree because he got the white flag. But the official shouldn't haven't given the white flag.

Gagne finishes 11th. A huge accomplishment for him getting that first Olympic final under the way. I think we will be seeing him in the future on the podium.
Absolutely. He already had the talent, and it's awesome that he got this experience in Rio. He'll be battle-hardened come Tokyo (although he's a really happy-go-lucky guy).
-
Haha, yeah, just changed it on re-read. A good friend of mine is Gagnon, wishful thinking perhaps.

Just when I thought Mexico had a shot at a medal, Pacheco performs a disastrous first dive. Oh...
I was rooting for him, too. I like the Mexican divers, men and women. Great talent.

I'm happy for Hausding, he's a great diver. So is Laugher (but for some reason I find him arrogant, but I'm happy for him, too). And the Chinese, again. Sure.
Great for Gagne to make the final. He's only 18. Look out for him in Tokyo!
