Maybe I’m bullshit on Canada’s chances, but I’d probably say even more medals than that, even if broke our record for most medals in a non-boycotted games at Tokyo with 24. With the amount of success we’ve been having, particularly in athletics and swimming we could potentially win 30.

I thought I was done reporting news on Canadian athletics, but wait, there’s more Jazz Shukla, with a new PB and first sub 2:00, clocking 1:59.94 in the women’s 800m at the LA Track Fest! 0.64 off the Olympic standard, but should qualify through the rankings regardless. Also a 2:03.99 SB for Madeleine Kelly, 4:03.87 SB for Lucia Stafford and 4:05.92 SB for Simone Plourde in the women’s 1500m, 3:37.56 SB for Cameron Proceviat, I know she’s coming back from injury but 4:23.48 is concerning for Gabriella De Bues-Stafford.

Jamaica Invitational today. So far, world record holder Amusan with a 12.40 WL in the women’s 100m hurdles ahead of world champion Williams in 12.46, and Hibbert 17.57m in men’s triple jump. Watch out for Hibbert in particular on the road to the Olympics, follow him on Instagram and from his content it looks like he has some even bigger jumps in him.

Nope, that was a mistake by me, I was looking at a Twitter list and they didn’t have LePage on it. The official Instagram for the event has confirmed that he’s entered on one of their posts.

If I had to guess, probably not, but it could put her in contention if the conditions aren’t the best or a couple of the favourites have an off-day. I’d say anything sub 12.43 would definitely be guaranteed a medal.

Next few meets for Ethan Katzberg have been announced (not officially, but through my research. On May 18, he’s entered in the men’s hammer throw competition at the Orlen Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, and on May 25, at the Hallesche Werfertage. Other notable events are Gotzis on May 18/19, where we’ll see Damian Warner and Pierce LePage in the decathlon, and the Atlantic City Games on May 18, as Mariam Abdul-Rashid will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles (entry lists aren’t officially out yet so there could be more Canadians in action)
