  1. Just taking a look at today’s results, apparently swept 3-0
  2. Ok, but we have a much stronger swimming team than Brazil, probably one of the top 5 nations in the world, so I think our expectations are warranted. You’re right though in the sense that there have been lot’s of positive swims, especially today. Was hoping for more in the women’s 200m freestyle, a non-Knox first place finish in the men’s 100m breaststroke, Wigginton in the men’s 400m individual medley, women’s 100m breaststroke, McIntosh in the women’s 400m freestyle though.
  3. A lot of these athletes will probably qualify regardless, but here’s a list of the notable swimmers who have competed in an event and haven’t qualified, who might be eligible for a discretionary pick. Some of them haven’t competed in their best event yet, but I’ll mention them anyways. Penny Oleksiak, Taylor Ruck, Ella Jansen (probably will qualify for the women’s 4x200m relay actually, McIntosh probably won’t be swimming prelims), Rebecca Smith, Katerine Savard, Apollo Hess, Shona Branton, Alexanne LePage, Sydney Pickrem, Kelsey Wog, Lorne Wigginton (needs the OQT)
  4. @Topicmaster1010 really excited to see what Aiden Norman can do in the men’s 200m backstroke
  5. Olympic Qualifiers After Day 2 (10 athletes) Men Finlay Knox - Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay Tristan Jankovics - Men’s 400m Individual Medley Blake Tierney - Men’s 100m Backstroke, Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay Javier Acevedo - Men’s 100m Backstroke Women Maggie MacNeil - Women’s 100m Butterfly Mary-Sophie Harvey - Women’s 100m Butterfly, Women’s 200m Freestyle, Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay Summer McIntosh - Women’s 200m Freestyle, Women’s 400m Freestyle, Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay Julie Brousseau - Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay Emma O’Croinin - Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay Sophie Angus - Women’s 100m Breaststroke, Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay
  6. Brousseau had a great swim. So did Tierney and Acevedo. Yeah super disappointing, hopefully Swimming Canada can select one of Branton/LePage/Pickrem in the women’s 100m breaststroke as discretionary pick (I believe all have OQTs?), and allow Wigginton another opportunity at the OQS.
  7. No… Basically for you to qualify for the Olympics (the most simple ways), you have to either finish top 2 and reach the OQT, or finish top 2 and have reached the OQT in the qualification period.
  8. Swimming Canada needs to change their selection criteria. It’s pretty good, but I would add that if there isn’t two qualifiers for the Olympics in an event then the highest finisher with the OQT will book their ticket on the Canadian team.
  9. 1:06.96 for Sophie Angus in the women’s 100m breaststroke… will qualify for the women’s 4x100m medley relay. Disappointing.
  10. Blake Tierney and Javier Acevedo qualify in the men’s 100m backstroke! 53.48 for Tierney, and 53.55 for Acevedo.
  11. 1:53.69 for McIntosh in the women’s 200m freestyle!! MSH also reaches the OQT for Paris in 1:55.44! Brousseau and O’Croinin with relay spots.
  12. Sad for Wigginton, hopefully he can still qualify in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay
  13. Tristan Jankovics 4:11.74 in the men’s 400m individual medley, and qualifies for the Olympics!!
  14. @james89 you’ll be watching the rest of the trials after all? Great news
  15. Hill is severely underrated, and if he’s playing as well as he is now, I wouldn’t even call goaltending that much of a weakness. Sure we’ll probably be behind United States, Sweden, Finland, and maybe Latvia (Silovs is no joke) but other than that…
  16. Not sure how I made this mistake, but for some reason I said Price instead of Hill. Right now, Hill would for sure be the starting goaltender for Canada.
  17. Also, what makes it even worse of a result (if that’s even possible), is that IN HISTORY Austria has never scored more than 2 goals in a game against a Canadian men’s hockey team (including juniors, and U18s) Really really hoping that Binnington isn’t on the Olympic team for Milano-Cortina 2026. If it were up to me, right now I’d go with Hill and Montebeault for two of goalie spots, and a pretty open third spot.
  18. Tavares scores just 15 seconds into OT on route to a pathetic 7-6 win over Austria today. Canada was up 6-1 (!!) heading into the 3rd, and we almost blew it. Binnington was fucking awful (he’s not a good goalie, but I wasn’t expecting this), letting in those 6 goals on 21 shots (5 goals on 9 shots in the 3rd), and the coaches are brain dead for not changing goalies at 6-4/5. Not at all happy with the win.
  19. Not a win worth celebrating. Pathetic performance by Binnington.
  20. 6-1 after the 2nd period to 6-6. Stupid coach still hasn’t pulled Binnington yet.
  21. This is embarrassing 5 goals on 15 shots from Binnington.
