You can never be 100 % prepared for the next pandemic, but had the pandemic playbook been followed some reactions would without doubt have been much faster. But that was thrown out the window along with everything else that the Obama administration had done to prepare for the next epidemic/pandemic.

It's not like Trump is the first to cut down on what a former administration did on the subject. Both Obama and Bush did as well. That's really not the main thing to blame him for (well, he is to be blamed, but so should the former presidents). What he should be blamed for, is his very slow response when others started recognizing the danger. That's where he's doing bad. While he and his supporters started throwing lies around about Obama's response (and not even the Ebola response that was questionable, but the response on H1N1 that was much quicker) things were going bad quickly.

And catching up? Well, in some states, but when Trump is letting his personal pride control his response, it's hurting in some states.

You can't trust a single politician to handle this pandemic. Nobody was ready for it and since there is no cure (vaccine) they're all fucked. Hell, Florida still had spring break gatherings or whatever when the virus was rampant in Europe. USA being a federal country with states being basically independent actually didn't help their cause. Not to mention nobody will rally around Trump in Democratic states regardless of what he says/does. This is still a political battle to be won rather than than a health crisis.

  2. Tom Dempsey who kicked a then-NFL record 63 yard field goal at the old Tulane Stadium in November 1970 has passed away due to COVID-19.

This record stood for 43 years until it was broken in 2013 at the high altitude in Denver by Matt Prater. Three other kickers have equalled Dempsey's mark during that span but they all used the more favorable soccer kick approach.

Dempsey was born without fingers on his right hand and toes on his right foot.

This was just about the only positive thing that happened to the New Orleans Saints in the 70s as they were a horribly bad franchise at the time.

Latest development about Coronavirus in UK.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-52169648

Coronavirus: 'Serious mistakes' made, says Starmer

    Exceprts from the article above.

Failure to provide enough protective equipment for frontline workers and delays over testing have been "serious mistakes" in tackling coronavirus, the new Labour leader has said.

Sir Keir Starmer said in an article in the Sunday Times, that ministers took too long to explain why they were "so far behind" on testing.

He also called for a "national vaccine programme" against the virus.

And he said ministers should publish an "exit strategy" to end the lockdown.

The 57-year-old decisively won the contest to succeed Jeremy Corbyn on Saturday, defeating Lisa Nandy and Rebecca Long-Bailey in a ballot of party members and other supporters.

Writing in the paper, Sir Keir said: "The Labour Party I lead will do our bit to offer solutions.

"But we will also speak for those who have been ignored; and where we see mistakes we are under a duty to expose them to ensure that they are rectified as soon as possible."

UK politicians wasted 3 years on this Brexit deal so what did anyone expect? Hell, COVID stopped more UK-EU negotiations so let's face it, the UK political scene has been nothing but total shambles since 2016. Labour Party hasn't had solutions for anything for the last 10+ years at the very least and their last "sociallist way" ended in a complete disaster.

In what appeared to be an unprecedented international heist, the Trump White House reportedly authorized a “diversion” to US from Bangkok airport of a flight carrying 200,000 N95 face masks bound for Germany, causing Berlin to go apoplectic and accuse Washington of “modern piracy.”

The masks were manufactured in China by the US company 3M which been contracted by Berlin for the consignment meant for its police. 3M has been under fire from Trump, purportedly for its extra-territorial loyalties in time of crisis, although like with many US companies, manufacturing in China for the international market is part of its global supply chain norm.

But the Trump administration, which famously proclaimed a “America First” policy, is now pulling out all stops to secure medical supplies after it has been brutally exposed for its lax initial response to the pandemic, the country's lack of manufacturing capability (which Trump blames on his predecessors) and the shallowness of its national strategic reserves of such material.

No surprise here. USA is a global power house. They will do everything to screw the world over during this pandemic time. The last time someone stood up to them and made them sweat economically was the 1973 oil crisis.

With 330 million population it's obvious USA was never prepared for this pandemic and they wouldn't have been prepared if Trump wasn't a president either. But they're making up the lost ground now and nobody will do anything to stop it.

:CZE:HUN and :POL lose EU court challenge for refusing Refugee quotas, but not :SVK because we "showed solidarity" and accepted 500 christian refugees :roflmao:

The whole relocation plan is dead anyway (since the fall of 2017) so even our resident anti-government media barely mentioned the TSUE verdict. Everyone knows it's completely worthless. Hell, EU needed almost five years to finally make a final decision, it's dust in the wind :coffee:

I will never agree with this. If suppressing the rights of everyone is your prefect vision of government, then you are a severely fucked up person.

I’d be careful what you wish for. The periods after pandemics like the Spanish Flu, Black Death, etc. are known for their extreme social reforms and liberalism.

You don't have to agree with me. Different people have different opinions.

As for extreme social reforms & liberalism, how is Bernie Sanders doing? :p  This guy's failure proves to me people are not holding out for those extreme reforms just yet

  7. Piotr Malachowski who intended to retire after the Olympics said he's going to continue for 2021.

Anita Wlodarczyk split with her coach Kaliszewski who's been with her since 2009. It's basically the same crap how this guy split with Szymon Ziolkowski months before 2012 OG.

Well, I am pretty sure NBC would like to have the games in July/August. May/June can cause some serious issues, that's the same time when the NBA Playoffs and Finals usually happen for example.

Yep, July/August is perfect for NBC. Nothing but baseball on TV and baseball is no longer what it was. They moved PGA to May so August is only Tour Champs and then NFL season starts in September. May/June makes no sense, sharing swimming/athletics with NBA Finals is a terrible idea.

It's always cute when people think or suggest they are not dependent on technology or technology/internet suddenly being gone wouldn't be their problem.

I had internet access banned for 10 years at my work because my boss wanted us to focus on the job rather than browsing internet. Then everyone had internet on the mobile phones anyway so the ban was lifted because it made no sense anymore. I actually don't even own a smartphone myself. How many of your friends can say that?

And 90% of people over age 45 don't realize that the world would indeed be royally fucked if you suddenly remove internet :p Take away internet and on day one you're gonna have thousands of extra traffic deaths all over the world, for starters.

Anyway, of course they have to be tactical in when to move the Indy 500 to. It's their main event by a huge margin and it'd be outright dumb to go and hold it on an NFL sunday if that can - at least for now - in any way be avoided.

The world has become too dependant on technology but that's not my problem. Spanish flu has claimed 50 million lives and the current world can't handle 10k COVID deaths. It's obvious no politician in the world was prepared for such a health crisis. We can talk about anything but the comfort bubble has been burst with a bang. Thankfully there is less politics in the media because of that. Nobody talks about equal, LGBT rights or Caster fucking Semenya. The cynic inside me is VERY happy

Well you shouldn't have said that, now we've got definitive proof COVID-19 is worse than the Spanish flu :p

Well, of course they didn't postpone it to September when the NFL season starts. Even that decision is highly tactical :p

It's obvious world has gotten incredibly soft over the last 100 years. Remove the internet and latte coffee and 90% of people below age 30 woud think it's the end of the world

Well, most manslaughter sentences are much more than one year for starters. Plus you make a pretty vague claim here since there’s more than one type of manslaughter crime.

Yes, welcome to the criminal system. People have only one life but there's like a gazillion ways to describe a killing. No wonder these lawyers make so much money for defending killers :p

He’s the President we need. Why the fuck, are we voting for Biden!?!

Normally I wouldn’t just share random posts, but damn this was a great speech. He’s not eloquent, he doesn’t follow the proper techniques, but he speaks with heart and power, and that’s what America needs right now.

Tell that to the blacks & suburban blue-collars. Biden had absolutely destroyed Sanders in these two groups :bye:

That reminds me of a good laugh I had yesterday. While listening to my astronomy professor’s video lecture, he made a somewhat sad/funny point. He made sure to remind everyone that comets have no proven spiritual power, so it would be wise to refrain from committing mass suicide when one passes.

    Religion makes easy comedy :p

Yeah, especially jihad and other Muslim fundamentalism. I see 9/11 is long forgotten in the USA already

Man, I remember when people pegged her as someone who would a gold medal one day. She never really came back from her first big injury. She did actually manage to put it altogether in Pyeongchang, and I was hoping she could better her performance in 2022 :(

Weirather tore the same ACL three times between 2007-2010. In fact she tore both her ACLs in Lenzerheide when she was just 17 yo. It's almost a miracle she continued for an entire decade after that. She still found success after those three big injuries.

The one in Cortina 2010 just before WOG was really unfortunate, it wasn't even a high-speed crash or anything,
