  1. I'm sure most people here will be overjoyed, but I'm actually heartbroken. I never wished her to win a medal, but I wanted her to have a good performance and keep her chin up. Of course she must have been through lots of verbal abuse to get to this point, and this makes one's mind crumble. Transgender people are attacked on a daily basis and their very existence is always threatened. Being a transgender athlete competing at the Olympics for the first time and receiving so much backlash of course must have had a big impact on her mental toughness.

  6. Is it only me who are annoyed by @OlympicsFan comments? He talks trash about everyone except maybe Germans. Why can’t we support each other? Greece deserves the gold in long jump. It’s not their problem if the competitiors can’t stay healthy. It’s part of the game to stay healthy. Hassan and doping? What the heck? Shall we blame every great sportsman/sportswoman for doping now?? Please.

  9. I looked more into this - the men's and the women's race have the same rules - "The remaining six teams will be ranked by their times in the First Round and will be paired as follows: The two fastest teams ride the final for the bronze medal. The next two fastest teams ride the final for 5th and 6th places. The last two teams ride the final for 7th and 8th places." Which means both the mens and womens team could win bronze - it will be a tough ask but its possible so I'm going with that.

  12. but come on 15th place overall at the Olympics ! and in a very very bad race in almost flooded lane 1 Quite a prospect here for us for sure. maybe a chance of final in Paris ?

  13. Whatever you think about the rules, Hubbard did nothing wrong. She followed all the rules as they exist. If you disagree with those rules your ire should not be towards her.

  18. Also Masso only once in his career jumped above 8.35 and never above 8.40. Yes it was sad that he got injured but it's not like he was definitely going to beat Tentoglou's 8.41 when he has never done that in his entire life. Tentoglou has been the most consistent long jumper in the world the past few years and he is still young and has a big career ahead of himself. He has consistently been jumping 8.30-8.40 for a few years now and this year he finally is starting to do bigger jumps now. Just because he is shy and keeps a low profile and doesn't care to be famous and annoying doesn't mean we should discredit him.

  19. Please tell me which were the joke events? The Greek National Championships are a joke event? And the jumps meeting in Kallithea which attracts many international big name competitors? You act like Greece is Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan. If our measurements are "more than doubtful" then we must be really bad at faking results to not fix it so Spyridoula Karydi and Elina Tzengko would've qualified as well. And if you don't like his style then that's your problem. He is from parkour and switched to long jump after his talent was discovered so maybe his technique isn't so natural but it works. Also he doesn't normally show emotions or have big reactions so that is why a lot of people thought that his 8.48 and 8.60 earlier this year were not legit. Not everyone is the same and is going to be jumping up and down like crazy celebrating a big result. Even last night you could see in his final he wasn't showing much emotion even after he won gold, because he is shy. Nothing wrong with that. He was even saying in interviews how upset he was to only get 8.41 and how his jumps were so bad in the final. He knows he can do much better.

  20. If Cubans won the gold & silver @OlympicsFan would complain they are doped since Cuba as communist country probably has some old DDR stuff still available and so on. @Makedonas needs to ask where did the German jumper finished in the final?

  21. And of course it shows complete wooden-headeness because under Mao competitive sports were banned, sports people spent their time exercising with pig manure & China did not enter any teams in the Olympics.

  24. By the way, Julia Krajewski becomes the first woman to take the individual eventing title. Closest so far were Karen Stives (Los Angeles 1984) and Sara Algotsson Ostholt (London 2012), who both got relegated to silver after dropping a fence in show jumping.

  25. After Day 10 Rio: 176/306 events, 71 NOCs with medals After Day 10 Tokyo: 199/339 events, 80 NOCs with medals At this point into the games you needed 6 golds to enter the Top 10 in Rio while 5 are still enough in Tokyo for the moment; 2 golds for Top 15 in Rio, compared to at least 3 in this edition. However, more nations have managed to win at least one gold so far (49 in Rio). Day 10 was huge for China. Despite the two lost finals in badminton, it has still been their most successful day so far with 5 golds, 11 medals altogether. There is a bit of a gap to the US now. Seeing as not everything is working for the Americans, there is a chance for the Chinese to top the medal table. None of the other teams are likely to interfere with the battle of those two. Italy the furthest behind (8-9-6 in Rio) compared to Rio while Japan (7-4-16 in Rio) and Australia (6-7-9) are doing very well at the moment. Denmark, Norway and Sweden combined are lacking some medals (17 in Rio) but have improved in golds (2 in Rio). More to come too. Most successful games for Ecuador, could finish higher than Colombia and Venezuela. Kenya have begun medalling but they might fall short of their performance last time (2-3-0 in Rio). Cuban fans will be relieved as wrestling and boxing will save them (2-1-4 in Rio). Countries with more than one medal after Day 10 in Rio that have not won a medal here yet (aside from absent North Korea): Bahrain (1-1-0 in Rio), Vietnam (1-1-0) and Lithuania (0-2-1) 4th place counter* (21) (14) (12) (11) (10) (9) (7) (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals; also includes QF losers in boxing

  33. Let me guess, Russia will win gold, China silver and Ukraine bronze (Japan might sneak in there!) for both the duet and team. This shouldn't be an Olympic event, not because it's not a sport but because the medals are decided before anyone hits the water.

  34. Yulo... He's young and he's going to be in Paris for sure, but I wish he had a medal here along with Davtyan. Well, history for . I'm happy with that. Abliazin did well and deserved silver. I'm not so sure Shin deserved gold.

  36. Do you ever have anything nice to say about anyone, ever? Serious question. Also Tentoglou not only had WL but before the 6th jump, this was his worst competition of the entire season and even that shows how good he is to have been 5th at that point. Yes it wasn't such a strong final and some others were injured, but also 8.41 is the longest jump in an Olympic final since 2004, and here we had not one but TWO medalists jump 8.41m. Also prior to Tokyo, Tentoglou had the two biggest jumps in the world this year (8.60 and 8.48). So if you consider this to be a "very sad result" then what do you think about the men's long jump finals in Beijing, London, Rio? 8.41 there would've won gold too.
