Alastair Chalmers is 2nd overall in 400m hurdles at the Florida relays in a time of 49.54. That's a decent season opener and is just 5 hundreths of a second slower than his best time from last year. 

 

The qualifying standard for Paris is 48.70 seconds so he still has a way to go - UK Athletics will not be accepting any world ranking invites for this event.

Innes Fitzgerald has rejected the offer of place on the World Champs squad, opting instead to focus on her A-Level studies. 

So having said she wasn't going to compete at the World Champs because she didn't want to fly and taking the train would take too long to get there, Fitzgerald does a U-turn, flies out to Serbia and finishes 17th.

Quick round up of results from the US college meets held over the weekend, starting with the Texas Relays - purely because of the presence of Dina Asher Smith in the competition:

 

Dina Asher Smith ran in the 4x400 relays and clocked a 51.2 running the third leg. Nicole Yeargin was in the same event (different team) and ran 52.42. Asher Smith was also part of a 4x200m relay team that clocked 1:27.05

1:27.05 being better than the world record, but because its a mixed international team, will not be credited as such. Alfred, Adeleke and Dina all clearly on scorching early season form...

Asher Smith looked pretty good in the video of the 4x400 - seemed to have plenty of strength and pace going into the final straight.
