Yes, 77 competitiors in total, 38 presented yesterday, 39 today. And yes, everyone competes once for the team.

The other half is competing today and the best three results per team will Count for the team competition. It's just that the live scoring isn't working.

Main option is FEItv, also the paid option ($17.99 for WEG pass), which will broadcast every second. Aside from that, it looks like Eurosport and Eurosport player will broadcast most of the Olympic events.
Finally, there might be some VPN options. This might work German VPN, and this might work with French VPN. I haven't tried it so I can't tell if only VPN is enough...

First couple of days should be okay, but after that there could be a lot of rainfall, what could spoil the cross-country Saturday. Thankfully at the least the winds are not expected...

France is quickly turning into one of those countries where they only care if they have a chance at winning a medal, completely ignoring that athletes typically don't go from unknown to world champs overnight.

AlFHg reacted to JoshMartini007 in Shooting ISSF World Championships 2018
It's pretty similar, just with two people
From the media guide:
Each team in the Trap Mixed Team qualification round shoots 150 total targets: 75 targets per team member, divided in three rounds of 25 targets each. Athletes competing in the qualification phase are divided in squads composed of three teams each. They use all of the five layout stations, and they are allowed to fire two shots at each target. Two shooters compose each team: one male and one female. The score of the team is made by the sum of the two individual scores
Targets are thrown randomly: shooters don’t know the angle and the direction of the target. The rotation logic ensures that all teams will shoot the same targets sometimes during the round.
The elimination-style final consists of a maximum of 50 targets.
During the final round, teammates alternate in shooting series of five targets, in the order designated by their coach. Athletes shoot from and rotate on station number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and they are allowed to fire one shot at each target. After five rounds have been completed — or when every team fired five times from each station — the lowest ranking team is eliminated in 6th position. At the end of each of the three following rounds, eliminations in 5th, 4th and 3rd place are determined. There, the two remaining teams have to fire two more complete rounds to decide the gold and silver medalist.

According to current qualification status, apart from Japan as host and China and Russia winning mixing team quotas, there are South Korea qualified in mixed team 10m pistol, and Australia and Slovakia in mixed trap

wow! what a pair of finals, today!!!
in the men's air pistol, I feel so sorry for Chernousov, who led throughout the entire competition and still had a 4-point margin before the last 4 shots...
but Jin's comeback was also something you don't see very often...
and the perfect ending was the final shoot-off, even if the momentum was so clearly addressed that it took most of the climax for the last shot away even before the shooters did take it...
p.s. no comment on the Italian disaster, which is becoming an annoying refrain to all the pistol & rifle shooting competitions...
in the women's Trap, we just had the chance to watch the best competion of the year, which did reach the climax with the really dramatic last shot of regulation, with Stefecekova and Wang fighting for the Gold medal...
first an unbelievable and unexpected miss by the Slovak, then the "no bird" on the following target (the last shot for Wang), which probably annoyed her enough to cause her mistake on the successive valid final target...
and therefore we went to the shoot-off also in this event, where the advantage of shooting first paid off in favor of Zuzana, who won her 2nd world title...
p.p.s. for Italy it was another disappointing day, but at least here we got the consolation prize of a Bronze Medal and of an Olympic spot (hoping that this time, after Rio's shameful behavior, our coaches won't deny Stanco the Olympic dream she deserves after earning her place in the Tokyo competiiton)...

Well yeah, they have practiced such measures too. Still, looking at what Lisa had to do to reach Europe, it amazes me how some federations are simply too cheap or something to buy couple of extra plane tickets.
I was talking about WEG in general too, like France deciding to withdraw from dressage because they didn't believe they can win an Olympic spot. That caused a lot of anger among their riders, who've been building for WEG for a whole year.

AlFHg got a reaction from Benolympique in Fencing Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Some news on this field too I was checking the FIE website and I found the dates of the first Team World Cup stages giving out points for the Olympic qualification ranking. Here they are:
Foil W: May 5 2019, Tauberbischofsheim, (thanks copy and paste)
Foil M: May 5 2019, St. Petersburg,
Sabre M: May 12 2019, Madrid,
Sabre F: May 12 2019, Tunis,
Epee M: May 19 2019, Paris
Epee M: May 19 2019, Dubai
The World Championships will be hosted in Budapest, 15-23 July 2019.
As regards Continental Championships, Asian Championships will be in Tokyo, 13-16 June 2019, while Dusseldorf will host European Championships from 17 to 22 June. No data are given for African and Oceanian* Championship, while I guess PanAm games will be used as continental championships for the Americas.
*I wonder no Oceanian federation exists

AlFHg reacted to Wanderer in [PREDICTION CONTESTS] Discussion Thread
Women's basketball world cup prediction contest is not opened yet, but before I open it I wanted to see whether you agree (more or less) with the scoring system I am going to propose:
With the old system, 10 points were reserved for correct winner and 20 for the point difference. Hypothetically:
Team A beats Team B by 1.
User WWW predicts Team A to win by 21, User QQQ predicts Team B to win by 1.
So according to the rules, User WWW will get 10 points only for right predicted winner and User QQQ 18 points for the point difference only! This simply does not make sense to me, no matter how far from the real result User WWW was. Right predicted winner is still right predicted winner. And it is possible that clear favorites may struggle and win by 1 instead by 21.
With new system I am proposing, 15 points are reserved for correct winner and 15 points the point difference. In the case from the above hypothetical prediction User WWW would get 15 points and User QQQ will get 13 points. I think both sides should be satisfied.
What is your opinion on this?

They'll be reallocated to the nation with the highest MQS in that event which has not yet qualified any shooting quotas

Fiji is out, only one team from Oceania advances.
Anyway, Vanuatu will probably withdraw later due to lack of funds, as is tradition of pacific islands in hockey.

Honestly I didn't remember this, but Israel, Denmark, Northern Ireland and Netherlands are surely border country with Italy... to be honest, it is not that I'm against the "brand development" of the Giro, but the southern part of Italy, where I live, is usually out of the way, in some years the Giro doesn't reach southern than Rome

Yes. I just said that knowing most people here don't care about it. (or are probably afraid )
That said, me liking video games and the competition, I don't want eSports to become part of the Olympic programme. It just wouldn't fit, same with board and card games. While perfectly fine on continental games, in my opinion there should be a separate Olympic tournament for all mind sports and eSports. It could be labeled as something with "indoor" and be held in autumn.

the 9th got one medal
Numerous weightlifting results from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics were cast into doubt after retests found steroid use was rife in the sport.
In one event from the 2012 Olympics, the men’s 94kg class, all three medalists and six of the top seven finishers were banned for doping.
The original ninth-place finisher, Poland’s Tomasz Zielinski, is in line for an upgrade to bronze even though he was sent home from the next Olympics in 2016 for failing a drug test.

They are only refusing the quotas won at the African qualifications (and rather understandably so, level in Africa is quite low in many sports).
-
AlFHg reacted to LDOG in Women's Field Hockey Tournament at the Asian Games 2018
Because their NOC is only interested in sending world class athletes to the OG and they think that in most sports african qualifiers have insignificant level. It's not that the south african hockey federation rejects them, they actually want to go in any way, it's the NOC that imposes the standard. I don't know how this policy originated but it has more than two decades of being this way, though sometimes they have relaxed it a bit.
As for the other question, it varies with each international federation but I think FIH in particular is flexible with them because they don't really want african teams at the OG either, but who knows.
