    Indirect qualifications start this year for some team events - like with the Women’s football to make the UEFA quotas a team has to be among the top three European games at the 2023 World Cup. The qualification draw for that has been done and the first matches are next month.

    The BBC said weather conditions caused it to be cancelled but the world record will stand after a test event in June.

    They have said he won the fencing in 1976 so many times it is like a parody.

    More athletes there than expected - through like with the opening ceremony not exactly many Team GB ones there due to GB not being strong in team events to fill the numbers.

    Wow at Jason Kenny and Lauren Price. And British Athletics still needs a rethink because why did they let Callum Hawkins run with a bad ankle injury when injured marathon runners never manage to have successful races.

    Are they giving both the Marathon medals in the stadium?

    If Somalia could p get its act together and become a functioning country it could one day challenge Ethiopia and Kenya like Uganda is now starting to.

    I think Kenya might well end up with a clean sweep which would be remarkable.

    I think this will be the worst GB performance in the marathon since 1980. It will be hard for Hawkins to bounce back to try for a top 15 or so in Eugene or Budapest or Paris.

    Are the support cars really self driving ? The BBC just said that but surely that’s a bit dangerous in a chaotic marathon.

    The BBC almost ignored Hawkins most recent placing which was plain weird.

    Ethiopia had a reserve they could have used if he was not bothered. The BBC commentary was like a funeral a bit ago because Callum Hawkins looks to be off the pace capable of getting in the top 20.

    Interesting that it seems that it was allowed to keep someone in the village many days past the 48 hour rule just for flag carrying duties but relatively few counties have done so - with many using only those who have completed in the last couple of days,

    should have picked the Artistic Swimming Duo then. Or with the Abe siblings. No idea who will choose. A lot of people thought it be Tom Daley but he has already left Tokyo.

    Here in the Uk yesterday the jumping was on the secondary feed of the BBC live with extended highlights shown on the main channel before the entire laser run was shown live while today the British pair swimming heat was shown I think live but the jumping was not (at least not in it’s entirely) live on any channel other than Discovery + but extended highlights were shown before the Laser run was entirely live.

    And even rowing will probably improve as the last twenty years have showed most sports are able to improve after a poor showing. Britain has more athletics medals than Germany and France combined which never felt that likely at the start of the Athletics.

    And even more so having it on the same day as the show jumping and having one of the laser run’s clash with the start of the evening athletics season. I wonder how many countries showed it live on their main channel outside of the BBC

    Is the new format 8 or 12 in the laser run? Samantha Murray on the BBC said eight earlier on but the trial used both formats and I can’t find confirmation that it’s been settled yet.

    Chicherova probably retired every time she thought she was close to failing a doping test. How she has not lost the rest of her medals really annoys me - should be one failed test and everything goes.

    Big shock - the BBC are applauding Lasitskene due to her criticising her own federation.

    The Aussie media will not be happy at her being here in Tokyo.

    So the two relay squads where it’s well known two of the competitors don’t like each other win both of the women’s relay.
