    Don’t believe any rankings posted here. The guy who did them thought relay athletes could enter any events they wanted.

    Yeah. It’s kinda like the “relay only” swimmers. The relays qualifies the extra spots and it’s up to you how to use them in the relays. At the games countries can use their individuals, their relay only athletes or even athletes from other events that they haven’t specified already (Mark English ran previously for our 4x4 really for example)

    FWIW they’ve listed Raftery as part of the squad. This makes sense now as I wasn’t sure why they had 4 extra women but one is a travelling reserve

    He said he was going to give himself the best opportunity of getting to the Olympics so went training instead of the Europeans. He’s 4th on the 400m list this year and that doesn’t include Barr so he’d have had to have an incredible run to get in O’Donnell gambled on missing the world relays and it worked for him

Hopefully Adeleke will be in the individual final but she’ll be the only one so women’s team should include Mawdsley for the heats My instinct is that mixed heat is Mawdsley and Becker. Adeleke replaces Becker if they make it womens heat is Becker, Mawdsley, Healy and Cadden/McGrory. Adeleke comes in for the final if they make it

    To counteract my earlier point, Ireland have named a squad of 7 women 400m runners. 3 individual and 4 relay only. 2 men for the mixed relay (with a travelling reserve that isn’t being counted) Our final athletics team is 23

    Athletics squad finalised. Apart from the individuals, the following have been selected for relays Tom Barr Chris O’Donnell Phil Healy Lauren Cadden Kelly McGrory Rachel McCann So we’re at 132 not with 23 athletes Jack Rafferty is travelling reserve

    They don’t drop the relay. They just have to use a swimmer from another event Ireland made the same mistake in Tokyo and our relay squad included a back stroke sprinter and a butterfly swimmer as we had nobody else qualified

    No. He’s awful. The people they get into the studio for swimming are good but Kenny is pathetic. He had “breaking news” about Wiffen doing the open water event today despite him “writing” about it for the RTE website the other day I say writing, he just cut and paste the press release

    The countries who said no don’t have any riders interested in doing it. Any world tour riders won’t need acclimatisation for France. The TT roads are different to the road race and the vast majority of those at the Olympic road race won’t be involved in the TDF. The small squads mean many countries only can choose one road racer and some of them just won’t want to give up 10 days or so in an Olympic village It’s just not that a big a deal that someone who is chosen for the road road doesn’t want to do the ITT

    Women’s time trial is Saturday 27th. The road race is 8 days later A long time to hang around if you’re not likely to win a medal, especially when a lot of the same women will follow the road race with track responsibilities Ireland refused a re-allocated spot and tbh, I’ve no issue with it at all

    They announced diving and marathon swimming yesterday so I’d imagine it’s on the way

    The rules are; For 4x100 you can have 5, but must include all those who qualified at 100 For Men’s and women’s 4x100 you can have 4 (changed from 5 only this week), and must include those who qualified at 400 For mixed you can choose 2 men and 2 women (no restrictions on who) Alternate athletes can be selected and travel but aren’t counted as quota, but it seems like a lot of countries are just naming all alternates as squad members

    Funnily enough I know the guy who did canoe slalom in Tokyo. He’s Irish and his “main” sport is football. Think 3/4 Irish freelancers worked last time. Saw some online commentary from Irish fans thinking it weird that RTE (our state broadcaster) sent commentary teams to canoeing and triathlon but not other more popular sports (the two lads who did those sports were ex-RTE)

    I don’t mean to sound harsh on some of the non-Irish posters on these forums but some of them are adamant on certain qualifications and then they’re shocked when it turns out they made a mistake. Swim Ireland have said they’ll accept OCT invitations so let’s see if any happen

    That’s correct. Tratnik was announced some time ago. Olympics ITT is less than a week after the TDF ITT and Pogacar is (obviously) prioritising the TDF EDIT; it’s a flat ITT in Paris so the likelihood of Pog winning is remote. He might have done it if it was hillier
