  1. Sanford has one good win in his career. Against an aging Lazaro Alveraz in the 2023 PanAm. That’s why he’s seeded here but Cuba made a mistake sending Lazaro to the PanAms and their fighter in Paris will be significantly tougher It’s boxing and draws can be kind, so he might medal but he wouldn’t be considered a top 8 boxer by most pundits
  2. It honestly worked great for Tokyo (as Discovery+ here)
  3. And didn’t release it before Tokyo 3 years ago…
  4. From the horse sport Ireland press release The following combinations have been selected as non-travelling reserves and are listed in alphabetical order, who will travel to the designated Horse Sport Ireland holding camp, should one be required: Denis Lynch (Co. Tipperary) with Brooklyn Heights, owned by Molly Ohrstrom Mark McAuley (Co. Louth) with GRS Lady Amaro (ISH), owned by SNC McAuley Equestrian. The following combinations have been selected as team alternates and are listed in alphabetical order: Darragh Kenny (Co. Offaly) with VDL Cartello, owned by Heathman Farm LLC. Richard Howley (Co. Sligo) with Equine America Consulent de Prelet Z, owned by HK Horses and Sarah Borthwick. Eoin McMahon (Co. Clare) with Mila, owned by Ludger Beerbaum Stables GmBH and Eoin McMahon. Cian O’Connor (Co. Kildare) with Eve D’Ouilly, owned by Nicole Walker and Cian O’Connor. Cian O’Connor (Co. Kildare) with Fermoy, owned by Keira Stoute, Sarah Stoute and Cian O’Connor. Shane Sweetnam (Co. Cork) with RR Combella, owned by Voquest LLC.
  5. He’s pretty much already their greatest ever athlete. He’ll be picked for LA if he wants it
  6. They were definitely accused of having AI write some stuff Some of their choices here are completely insane
  7. Well they have some to win medals who haven’t even qualified (eg the Jamaica men’s 4x400m relay in athletics) so you have to take them all with a pinch of salt
  8. Sports Illustrated predict 5 Gold for Rhys and the lightweight rowers Silver for McIlroy Bronze for Wiffen in 800 and 1500
  9. I don’t think it’s widely enforced by all countries though. Plenty of athletes will be at finals supporting their team mates a while after they’re knocked out themselves. Maybe they’re allowed stay while their sports are still on? Also none of the rugby players will be finished before the opening ceremony. Out of medal contention maybe, but they’ll all play games on the 27th
  10. Lebron James voted in for the American men. Women vote is tomorrow
  11. We also won our first medal in discus too It wasn’t that long ago that we didn’t have a field event athlete at any level!
  12. They had all county crests and more available for each athlete to select. So we might see who Clancy chose (I suspect Sligo)
  13. More than likely just availability. All 3 based outside of Ireland. Mullen and Armitage did the nationals a month or so ago so the selection must have been pretty recent If I could choose one of our outside chances to win a medal, it’d be Ben in the road race
  14. Can stream directly from European athletics too. Fine for me anyway
  15. Both. Eurosport will have extra broadcast channels (same as Tokyo) but everything will be streamed on discovery plus (same as Tokyo) BBC and RTE have live coverage everyday (all day) but no extra streams. Next Wednesday, RTE 2 are showing Irelands games in the sevens whereas Eurosport are showing the whole tournament. Eurosport also showing the football etc before the opening ceremony etc On Saturday, RTE’s coverage starts at 09:15 and ends at 22:30. Next Tuesday RTE starts at 06:55 (rowing heats)
  16. I didn’t mean to offend you, but we differ wildly on our evaluation of the two riders. Look at the races Archie has won already in the pro ranks. They’re not mountainous. My logic behind picking Archie ahead of Eddie is that I think he’s a better rider. It’s not that deep
  17. Except Australia would have won the k1 “as of right” in the world championships if Fox hadn’t already won the quota at C1, where as Poland’s C1 was a reallocation. Technically Australia never had a quota to refuse The effect is the same (same paddler does both events) but Poland’s was a re-allocated spot so it wasn’t known if they would have accepted it or not. I see Wikipedia lists Australia as a reallocated K1 spot but I think that’s wrong (or at the very least they were never going to accept it)
  18. They never counted Australia’s K1 quota as it was won by Jessica Fox at the 2023 worlds after she won the c1 quota. She can still enter both (and will)
  19. I’m not sure you’ve seen much of Archie Ryan if you think Rafferty is a better shout here. Ryan is better than him in every way. Now Darren is a few years behind so he can catch up but Archie is way ahead of him at the moment
  20. Team should be Healy and Archie Ryan. Will likely be Healy and Dunbar. Women’s rider could be any of Armitage, Mangan or Gillespie. Won’t be Griffin as she hasn’t been on the roads at all this year (not literally but maybe 5/6 days max) and none in about 3 months (also think they’d let her do the ITT if they were choosing her) We won’t win a medal so hoping they bring Armitage or Mangan just to boost the numbers As for the delay, it’s likely down to picture availability IMO. They have had photoshoots for every sport (if not every athlete) and the main protagonists have been busy on the continent
  21. Indeed. Poland aren’t on the list of “final entries” https://www.canoeicf.com/sites/default/files/paris_2024_csl_final_allocation.pdf
