  1. I suffered with a knee too. I was happy to complete the couch to 5k programme by mostly running on grass 5k is my limit though. Any more and the knee swells! Hats off to everyone who can complete a marathon!
  2. FWIW Ireland’s Mia Griffin earned 270 points in the last week, 260 on the last day and means we will leap from “borderline out” to “comfortable one spot” No changes in the men’s
  3. They’ll be published today. The final world tour events in both men’s and women’s finished today
  4. They didn’t score in the second period with 14 men. Taylor was yellow carded in the incident that led to Ireland getting the penalty try. There was 15 minutes left in the game and Ireland were one point behind They didn’t score again. In fact it was NZ who added 3 points in that 10 minutes.
  5. It absolutely was a choke. They had a man advantage for a quarter of the game! Sure, NZ defended superbly, but the game was there to be won by Ireland and, again, couldn’t do it when it was most needed
  6. I believe the proposal is that all the new team events are for 6 teams only
  7. 1980 Olympic bronze medal winner boxer Hugh Russell has passed away aged 63. Between 1964 and 1992, Ireland only won 3 Olympic medals and Hugh’s bronze in Moscow was one of them - the only boxing medal won in those 6 Olympic Games. He later went on to be a successful photographer
  8. The Tour of Guangxi is the last WT event. The line up isn’t confirmed but Pello Bilbao is there for one.
  9. 3rd & 4th from the world championships (who were 2nd & 3rd in 2022) 2nd in Tokyo Olympics 2023 World Cup winner 4 men looking for 2 available pommel horse sports next year. I said it earlier but 2 genuine medal contenders will miss out
  10. To be fair, I’m not sure starting order affects Whitlock being the favourite. His degree of difficulty effectively means if he doesn’t fall, he’s almost guaranteed to medal
  11. 4 men looking for one spot today. All with legitimate chances to win gold here and in Paris. With Kurbanov likely to be back in contention at the World Cup qualifying route next year, we could see 2 of the worlds best not even at the Olympics I just hope Rhys performs to the best of his ability today but I’m really nervous for him
  12. 48 teams in 2030 so still 42 to qualify. May not been many chances at all to South American qualifying. One group and the top half getting in
  13. Oh, ok. I only had a quick look at the wikipedia list of qualifiers that listed them with only 5 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_at_the_2023_Pan_American_Games_–_Qualification
  14. Really shocking to see Kazakhstan with only 2 qualifiers. With GB only having one man qualified, and Cuba and the USA with small teams for the Pan Am qualifiers, the world tournaments could be chaos next year!
  15. Not sure if this is the right spot but anyway... As Bakhodir Jalolov & Kamshybek Kunkabayev have qualified for the Olympics through the Asian Games it's interesting to note that all 4 medalists from Tokyo are unbeaten as professionals Jalolov is 13-0 (5-0 since Tokyo) Kunkabayev is 5-0 (2-0 since Tokyo) Frazer Clarke is 8-0 (and won't be back in the Olympics Richard Torres is 6-0 (and won't be back in the Olympics)
  16. The Rings quota is between Eleftherios Petrounias Nikita Simonov Vincenz Hoeck Artur Avetisyan Vahagn Davtyan Whoever finishes first between them will qualify. There will be 2 places available per apparatus through the Word Cup ranking next year (January to March)
  17. Can only assume that someone has protested a result or something? Because it’s been a while like that
  18. Alexei Lutsenko has won the Asian games time trial for Its worth 70 UCI points and puts them ahead of Eritrea for 20th position
  19. Not really a disappointment IMO. Tighter qualification than Tokyo meant it was a long shot. We basically qualified by default for that. Let’s just hope Rhys does the business in the final
  20. Ireland have Mia Griffen at WT level but she has had a disastrous year with injury. She’ll hopefully be part of the pursuit team. So will Lara Gillespie, who’s probably our best cyclist. Megan Armitage is the likely choice. If they get the spot of course
  21. For me, there's only 2 cliff edge "races". Can Spain get 4-500 points from the last two weeks to overtake France for the 5th spot? It probably needs Bilbao/Mas/Landa to win Lombardia. Very unlikely. GB are safe in 4th Currently Eritrea are just a few points ahead of Kazakhstan for 20th/21st. That might go down to the wire Everything else is settled IMO
  22. Rhys in a four way battle for the Olympic spot now. Last year’s silver and bronze as well as Tokyo silver medalist 4 men who think they can win gold here, never mind qualify for the Olympics (Whitlock clearly favourite)
  23. I would say there’s a less than zero chance McIlroy would agree to that. Leona Maguire might be a good shout if you want a golfer to do it. Lowry would absolutely agree to it For me I’d like to see rowing represented for the first time since 1976. Considering she re-started Irish rowing almost single-handedly, I’d give it to Sanita Puspure in her final event (if qualified of course) Boxing have had the last 3(!) so maybe another sport. If going with a male athlete, Mark English would be a good lifetime achievement award and a rep for Athletics
