  1. Hassan doing 1500, 5000, 10000 and marathon will keep her busy anyway
  2. I don’t mean to sound harsh on some of the non-Irish posters on these forums but some of them are adamant on certain qualifications and then they’re shocked when it turns out they made a mistake. Swim Ireland have said they’ll accept OCT invitations so let’s see if any happen
  3. Irish swimming said yesterday that they haven’t received any invitation for Shortt
  4. That’s correct. Tratnik was announced some time ago. Olympics ITT is less than a week after the TDF ITT and Pogacar is (obviously) prioritising the TDF EDIT; it’s a flat ITT in Paris so the likelihood of Pog winning is remote. He might have done it if it was hillier
  5. He didn’t want to do it. Spoke about it some months ago.
  6. I think it just re-enforces the point that World Athletics have their own procedures and while some here may believe certain invitations are inevitable, they take some time to be processed.
  7. Great work @OlympicIRL! Not sure if we should comment in here so feel free to delete but just to point out there’s no need to put round of 32 bouts for Harrington or O’Rourke as they’re seeded and won’t be involved.
  8. These are my favourite types of medal winners. People who were favourites to win medals at different stages of their career but just never did for various reasons. In Ireland, Sonia O’Sullivan is the all time example. 4th in 1992, sick in 1996 (when favourite for gold and reigning world champion), her silver in 2000 was such an emotional moment
  9. I thought I had posted here but the updated road to Paris rankings are out Lots of changes with all the refusals/choices/injuries
  10. The road to Paris rankings have been updated with the new re-allocations
  11. The level of rooting against the following can change but I’ll echo what some have said earlier. I don’t want any of the Kenyan/Ethiopian/Ugandan/whatever runners that the likes of Bahrain have bought in. Nothing against people who have emigrated to any country for their own reasons, just the quite obviously bought ones I’ll cheer against (Same applies to other sports too of course) Nikki Hiltz in the 1500m. Will just lead to too much *serious debating* Most American swimmers. All of them I think but some may surprise me Djokovic in tennis. The GB 49er FX crew in sailing
  12. The Lithuanian behind her has got one too. We’ll find out officially tomorrow
  13. World athletics have confirmed the relay quotas though. The only one that had any doubt was the men’s 4x100 where they have confirmed that are in and are not The rest are all as we knew from the end of the period
  14. I went a bit shorthand there. Of course it’s the NOC who refuse the quotas. Apologies
  15. 3 GB athletes refused the invite so it’s pretty much a done deal. I think only Barr will miss out now
  16. Also have a look at the swimming thread. Theres plenty of “unexplained” inclusions. You’d have to hope that after Tokyo’s debacle* they’d know exactly how many relay only swimmers they have *for those who can’t remember, Jon Rudd didn’t know that there was a limit on relay only swimmers and told 4 swimmers they were on the team. Only to have to tell 2 of them they weren’t with Shane Ryan and Brendan Hyland having to fill in on the 4x200 free
  17. John Shortt wins gold at 200m back stroke First ever male Irish swimmer to win European junior gold
  18. The OCT invitations haven’t been announced officially, have they?
  19. I think Ferguson might end up doing the individual event as they’ve announced 7 relay only swimmers and we can only have 6 Also don’t think it’s spite with Ryan as they could have named Fannon in the relay squad. They had their rules and they stuck to them. Don’t think it’s any more than that
  20. Surely they’ve selected at least one runner for the women’s 5,000m? None on the list?
  21. Daniel Wiffen will take part in the men’s after his 800m and 1,500m events in the pool first ever Irish open water swimmer at the Olympics
  22. News report on the Irish team Assume she thought she was out, and that she’ll be in now The official announcement is today but John Kenny who wrote that is definitely clued in. I think he broke embargo
  23. OK figured out the swimming team Individuals with OQT Fannon Wiffen McSharry Walshe Hill Individual with OCT Ferguson Relay only Ryan Greene McCusker Catterson O’Riordan Davison one of the 3 women there will swim both relays (as will Hill)
