  1. Not being smart now but boxing gets very little funding. Some of the athletes are carded but the gyms most of them fight out of are literally just halls And the fighters generally come from areas where there are very few options in what sport they participate. Theres literally no way Kellie Harrington plays any sport other than boxing, football or Gaelic football. That’s just one example but it’s the same for most of them. I know we have a HPU unit but that’s 4 coaches and the rest is already established sport council gyms etc
  2. I fell asleep and woke up to see it was abandoned and thought I’d gone back in time for a half second
  3. Oh yeah. Absolutely. Turned into a lottery. The Spanish were flying and literally came to a stop. I'm just saying it wasn’t certain we were about to lose that medal
  4. The Croatians had stalled so we were back in a medal
  5. Men’s skiff medal race abandoned just at the half way mark. They’re moving course looking for wind
  6. I switch between RTE and BBC and usually have a stream going in the background too For important events it’ll depend on the commentary team. I like BBC’s swimming team for example
  7. I can’t stand that Harmedy guy. From day one I had to turn him off
  8. If we use the results of each prelim races (with only the 10 boats remaining included) and use them as the final position in the medal race, this is what would happen in skiff/49er; Gold win it 9 times, win it 3 times Silver win it 5 times, win it twice, once Bronze twice once Spain win a medal every time Ireland and NZ win a medal 7 times
  9. If we use the results of each prelim races (with only the 10 boats remaining included) and use them as the final position in the medal race, this is what would happen in skiff/49er; Gold win it 9 times, win it 3 times Silver win it 5 times, win it twice, once Bronze twice once Spain win a medal every time Ireland and NZ win 7 times USA 4 times Croatia 3 times Poland twice GB once
  10. If she ends winning any medal, it will be forgotten The team may qualify anyway (it has in previous events). She had said that she felt “leggy” in the European champs after the mixed final. Kaczmarek who beat her there has already said she’s skipping the mixed relay.
  11. They’ve overperformed in relays recently and their time from the European championship is very competitive on the world stage so we weren’t completely without hope. I’m with you though, I don’t think we have the talent on the men’s side to have won a medal in Paris as the bigger nations start to take the event more seriously. I’d like Ireland to continue our record of qualifying for the final of every mixed relay we’ve ever entered in major champs but I never believed we would be a medal contender
  12. I don’t think we’d have metalled with her in the mixed anyway. Too many countries with deeper squads than us and they’re starting to see it as a medal opportunity. We haven’t any man qualified individually while the others can bring out 3/4 Of course I could be proven to be a fool again when the teams are announced but if Adeleke gets her medal, she’ll be proving right
  13. I thought it was the right decision fwiw. Ugly fight and she could have had other deductions but such is life. On to the next ones now
  14. I think your lightweight women have a chance. Mainly because that race is usually crazy. Olympics in 2021 was one the strangest ever. I expect GB to win easily but Greece are very much in medal contention IMO 4 Irish crews have made finals. A record amount. I think we’ll win 2 medals
  15. 100%. Finish in the top 4 and let the rest of it figure itself out
  16. 4th place tomorrow guarantees us a medal. Can actually finish 9th and win a medal too (if unlikely)
  17. 3 in the bag after day 5 lads. We usually have to wait for the final weekend for any
  18. They’re 4th with one race to go. Most of the top 4/5 seem to be struggling. It’s tightened up considerably
  19. Then we’d have the same people saying “why are they giving them an extra point?” etc You need 3 judges to say you won most rounds. If you can’t get that, the judges decide who won the fight. I honestly don’t see it as that complicated tbh
  20. The draw judges aren’t taking priority. They have the same weight. If one of those votes blue instead of red it’s a win for blue I I think what some are trying to argue is the penalty for a warning should be bigger. That’s a different argument altogether
  21. The margin may not have been huge at all. It’s a quirk/failure of the 10-9 system but every boxer understands that In the tightest of tight rounds a winner has to be chosen and the score will be 10-9 In a round where one boxer wins relatively comfortably, the score will more than likely be 10-9
  22. Because you need at least 3 judges to win in boxing. You can’t win 2-0 (or 1-0)
  23. This is exactly right. I don’t like it, but in the case above 3 judges would scored it 28-28 would have selected the red fighter as their winner as you can’t have a majority draw
  24. Yeah, the womens pair are my only real disappointment so far. I don’t care for post mortems when we’ve no idea what happened. Womens squad overall will be disappointed Two medals to come in rowing for me but the pair and the LW women could do anything. Confident in Fintan and Paul again!
