It's kind of ridiculous to me that athletes are being eliminated from competitions before the Opening Ceremony

I'm actually impressed by most venues I've seen so far. The Artistic Skating venue is probably the best one ever at the Pan American Games. Also nice broadcast/images.
 

Wasn't it really necessary to have such a complicated baseball format that pushed softball to start before the games? They both could have been a six team round robin...
 
At least softball can have some time in the sun with no competition outside of football.

Mexico's Nicolle Castro is apparently injured and will not compete.

I can't stress enough how devastated I am with so many injuries. Andrade, Garcia, Moreno, Barbosa, Padurariu, Castro, Calvo, Larduet... This is absolutely insane!  

Anyone knows if equestrian will be broadcasted?

I watched both preliminaries and the finals. 
 
All I can say is that Gary Hunt is a true master, especially going into the last round. His final dive was nearly perfect and he surely deserved those 9-5-10 scores. I can only have respect for him, he's a legend.
 
LoBue sadly was penalized in that last dive, the final difference with Hunt should have been lower. And about Paredes, well, he returned to his level after two dissapointing seasons, so I'm happy he ended in the podium.
 
As for the women's, I'm heavily upset. Iffland was given the gold by the judges, who made the calculations so Jimenez ended on the losing side by .15. However I don't blame Iffland, because she's a great diver and it was her gold to lose. I think the fault lies within FINA, especifically Cornel Marinescu (sp?) who's in collution with Mexican federation president Todorov, who has a personal grudge against Jimenez because she was our first top level athlete to publicly speak of the mismanagement and corruption in this sport.

Interestingly,  has decided not to enter their women’s Squash players into the singles event. They will participate in doubles and team though.

I could be wrong, but my bet is that they're "saving" Isaquias for Tokyo, which would be much more prestigious anyway.
 

Isaquias Queiroz is a nice choice, as Vinicius mentioned. He won three medals at the Rio Olympics (only Brazilian athlete to ever win three medals at a single edition) and was the world champion in C-1 500 last year. His personal life is drama-filled as well: he lived in a stilt house in a very poor area of the country and his coach died last year. He's typically Brazilian: everything goes against him, but he still manages to beat the odds and be the best.

Martine is a girl from a rich family with a famous and influent father who has lots of personal contacts within the Brazilian Olympic Committee. And her sport is widely unknown in Brazil.

In my opinion tomorrow's schedule event to watch is  v.  in the first round of the men's beach volley tournament. Can't believe how this came to happen: defending champions and 2nd best ranked team agains top ranked  Quite unfair for both teams, while the hosts and the Argentinians have ridicolous groups.
 
Also entertaining should be the afternoon matches in handball, although Brazil and Argentina should end up winning against Cuba and the U.S. respectively.
