  1. It's time to make final guess and elaborate . Short Track Speed Skating: Men's 500m/1500m and Mixed relay with decent chance to win medals even gold medals. Women's and Men's relay are always with chance given the messy situation. To be realistic and consider the unpredictability of the discipline, 2 golds and 6 medals. Speed Skating: Men's 500m and 1500m are among gold medal contenders but with plenty rivals from US, Canada and always Netherland, also Men's 1000m also with slim chance of medal. As host, I decide to be a little optimistic, 1 gold and 2 medals. Figure Skating: Though Russian show great competence on ECH, Chinese pairs can win the gold if skate cleanly for both short and free programs. Also China also have slim chance on team event to win a bronze medal. Once again I'm optimistic as host, 1 gold and 1 medal. Freestyle Skiing: Aerials are quite unpredictable, Mixed team with greatest chance to win gold medal, Women's and Men's event are almost guaranteed with medals but the color is hard to predict. Super star Gu Ailing almost secures the Halfpipe gold, and also with 50% to win Big Air and 20% to win Slopestyle. In total I would guess, 3 golds and 6 medals. Snowboarding: Su Yiming proved his ability on Big Air already. And I see great potential on his Slopestyle, hopefully he succeed Backside 1980 on OG. And Cai Xuetong has capability to win a medal even though she can't compete Chloe Kim. 1 Gold and 2 medals. Skeleton/Bobsleigh/Curling: Hopefully at least one of these sports can make some surprise. 1 medal. My guess: 8 golds and 18 medals Pessimistic guess: 6 golds and 15 medals Optimistic guess: 10 golds and 20 medals

This list is not officially confirmed yet as we haven't had official press conference about the final list of the team members. But so far, these are the people who should be on the list. Yet, there might be some changes. In Skicross, Diana Cholenská looks like coming with ACL injury and not sure whether she will go. Currently, men's ice hockey team has 6 covid cases + they need to call in one more player. There will be probably more changes than the coaches wanted...... Final list should come in few days ....

  8. 15, to, at least, maintain the tally from 2014 and 2018. A second straight downward trend would be disastrous before Paris 2024 but that's what we deserve.

  11. One medal will be ok this time. Ski jumping - they are very weak this season, so I don't have any hopes. But a chance for a medal is in W 500m short track speed skating (Maliszewska). Biggest fun for me would be a medal in alpine skiing (W GS) by Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel but 5th or 6th place is more realistic, she is a contender but she hasn't been in top3 in the world cup yet. Lately we had a win in Snowboard parallel GS world cup by Aleksandra Król, so this may be a surprise medal. A medal in any other event would be a very big surprise for me. But you never know, maybe speed skating, maybe women's biathlon (Monika Hojnisz)... Who would have predicted a gold for Poland in 50km race walk in Tokyo, heh?

  12. Canada Alpine Skiing: On paper, we definitely should win 0 medals here but we did win one medal during the World Cup season this year. Our skiers are definitely capable of winning a surprise medal. 0-1 medals Biathlon: Perhaps if one of our biathletes shoots clean, a medal in the individual could be possible in the most unpredictable sport (as shown by a 4th place finish from Scott Gow earlier this year). 0-1 medals Bobsleigh: Between Justin Kripps, Christine de Bruin, and Cynthia Appiah, I would expect at least one medal. If everything goes according to plan, then a medal in all 4 disciplines. 1-4 medals Cross-Country Skiing: With Alex Harvey's retirement, we've gone in a full rebuild mode. There's a couple of promising skiers on the men's side but it's safe to say that we won't contend at these Olympics. 0 medals Curling: 4 years ago, I would have easily said 3 medals but the results over the last 4 years has shown that the rest of the world has caught up. I'll say that at least one team should medal but hopefully all 3 can make the podium. 1-3 medals Figure Skating: What a difference 4 years makes. All but one member of the team that won gold in the team event in 2018 are retired. Maybe we win a medal in ice dance. Maybe we can beat out Japan for the bronze medal in the team event. Otherwise, no chance in the other disciplines. 0-2 medals Freestyle Skiing: We have medal contenders in every discipline besides women's moguls and probably men's aerials. We should at least get one medal in ski cross, one in halfpipe and one between moguls and slopestyle/big air. 3-11 medals Ice Hockey: Women's hockey should be our safest medal. Without NHL players, the men's team is no longer gold medal favourites but should still be contenders. 1-2 medals Luge: Like figure skating, our luge program has gone into a rebuild except we don't have any medal contenders. 0 medals Nordic Combined: No athletes. 0 medals Short Track: Started out the World Cup season poorly but ended strongly. We at least won 2 medals at every world cup stop and the most we won is 7 so I'll put that as the range. Pascal Dion, Kim Boutin and Courtney Sarault will be the biggest medal hopefuls here. 2-7 medals Skeleton: Definitely capable of a surprise in the women's event. 0 chance of a medal in the men's. 0-1 medals Ski Jumping: Nope. 0 medals Snowboarding: Biggest medal chances here are in the men's/women's slopestyle/big air events and men's snowboard cross. Let's go with 2-5 medals. Speed Skating: The sport that's made the most progress for us since the last Olympics. Possibility for medals in the men's 500m, 1500m, as well as the long distance, team pursuits and mass starts for both genders. 3-9 medals Pessimistic Total: 13 medals Optimistic Total: 46 medals If we take the median, that would be 29.5. I'll say 26 would be more realistic.

  13. Barring Covid and Injuries disaster it should be as often, anything between Zero and Three. It is not a secret that all our hopes this time are only and only on the shoulders of one certain Alpine Skier, a sport in which we never won a Olympic medal before. If everything works well, she should be able to bring a medal home, but it may also end in another disappointement just like 4 years ago... well, let´s hope for the best this time and at least one medal, no matter of which color, any single medal would be already huge for us.

One of the best times of my life and one of the most magical times in Canadian history. So many memorable moments from Alex Bilodeau winning our first gold on Canadian soil to Sidney Crosby scoring the "Golden Goal" to win men's hockey gold for Canada. 80% of the country tuned in to watch the gold medal hockey game between Canada and the USA. Will never get tired of watching the video below.

  22. Lillehammer 1994...and not only because they were the most successful Winter Games ever for Italy... the overall atmosphere was amazing, by far the best of all times...especially in the outdoor events and at the Viking Ship (speedskating)... even the Ice Hockey Gold Medal match between Sweden and Canada was one of the best hockey matches ever played...for sure, the best ever played by (still) non-NHL players...

  23. our NOC's boss said he's gonna be happy with 11 total medals (and at least 4 golds)... where have I to sign? frankly, I expect a big flop from our team, even worse than the "0 tituli" of 2014... our main chances are women's downhill and super-G in alpine skiing, the women's snowboardcross and the women's 500m in short track...those are the only 4 medals I'd be really disappointed if we don't get them... anything else, it would be a pleasant gift...

  24. I like Osaka, but finally her ranking (and Kenin's as well) should be where it deserves to be according to the commitment to the tour. Great to see Anisimova is getting slowly back. Would be terrible if she didn't fulfill her potential. Just wanted to see Barty-Osaka match, but this one works too

  25. Anisimova defeated Osaka in another decisive tie break today , not really surprising result as osaka didn't deliver anything since winning AO back in 2021

  26. Yes, every deciding set has different rules at every GS now - AO (10 point TB), FO (old school two games advantage), Wimbledon (7 point TB at 12-12) and USO (7 point TB). Amanda Anisimova beat Naomi Osaka 10-5 in third set TB! Guess she might be back after two terrible years. Paula Badosa also through.

  31. Also pity there no multiple-options choices in this poll, because I would pick in 2nd Lillehammer 1994, what a great games it was, with fantastic atmosphere, great sport moments and first ever for 1 year after the split-up of TCH (Also the first ever SVK ice Hockey international major tournament as independent country) Unforgetable moments with Peter Šťastný returning from deflection in Canada and finally playing before his retirement as captain of his nation the first moments when the whole new country began to feel proud

  39. The first part (0 medals) I agree with. Curling (3) Of course we expect three medals, preferably three golds. Hockey(2) Same. Are you having a stroke? Snowboarding (3-8): Men's Slopstyle and Big Air could sweep. They could also not get any medals. Women's slopestyle and Big Air: 0-2 Boarder cross: 0-3 Free Ski (5-7): Men's moguls, women's and men's halfpipe, ski cross always comes through (Canadian women have won every gold in this event since it started, and 5/9 medals). Team Arials has a chance. Ski big air, let's see what happens. Canada has topped the Free ski the last two Olympics, and always been top-2. Speed skating (5-8): I'm sure of Men's 500, Women's Pursuit, Women's Mass Start. Then some mix of Men's 5000, 10000, Men's Pursuit, Women's 3000, 5000. Short Track (2-6): I agree, hard to predict. Canada should be in every final. Bobsled (2-3): Justin Kripps should get up on the podium at least in one of his events, if not both. Women could pull out another one or two. Figure Skating (0-1): Probably Canada's first blank in figure skating since 1980. The only hope is in Pairs. A distant hope. But hey, distant hopes came though a few times for us in this sport, like in 2006. I predict 25-32 medals, with around 8-10 golds. It's a wide range because a lot of these sports (free ski, snowboard, short track) can be decided on one slip. For most Canadians, it comes down to the success of our hockey and curling teams. In 2014 it was 4/4 golds. In 2018 we got a gold, silver and bronze out of the 5. First time without a traditional curling medal. Not good. Not tolerated again.
