Doping Cases and Bans Thread (2016 & 2017)

Very interesting documentation in ZDF about a network in walking.

Alex Schwarzer is a really poor guy, I have a lot of doubts that he is guilty! His coach got a call right before competition, that Schwarzer should walk slowly and let the Chinese win. He did not and got a positive test for testosterone. The sample was tested before in January and was negative.

This is so ridiculous!

Coach of Kenyan 800m runner Fergus on Rotich was sent home after trying to give a urine sample instead of his athlete. This has to be a DQ for Rotich too and after last allegations about paying for knowing when tests will happen, maybe hole Kenyan athletics team should be banned!

CAS is starting to rule for the swimmers which committed previous doping violation, letting them compete at the Olympics. Morozov and Lobintsev have been cleared, Efimova is still waiting.

As I said before this was probably the easiest decision CAS has ever made, Osaka rule and everything.

I thought Morozov and Lobintsev were banned because of being named in McLaren Report. So they have nothing to do with Osaka rule

Since Sochi, where everyone could see that Bach is a friend of Putin, Bach lost a lot of support in Germany. Now his actions in the whole Russia case made it even worse. So, Seppelt doesn't need to start a war. But if you want to use this metaphor, yes he has a growing army: Harting, Pechstein of the famous athletes. Then Sörgel as former IOC member. And this other former IOC member who gave back his honours. Of course the officials of the DOSB still support Bach.

And to Seppelt's style of interviews: I don't like it at all, because he really seems to need the camera and be in front of it. But this does not change, that he revealed a lot

He finally crazy. He's a disgrace to real journalism.  all Russian athletes are now waiting for the CAS decision. For example, Efimova will not participate in the court session, but she is now in Rio. instead, there will be her lawyer. Rowers and weightlifters will have the decision tomorrow. For Morozov and Lobintsev CAS will make a decision after the final verdict is FINA.

It's really strange... Why is he the only one who has "these" information? Why no other journalist?

Edit: did they mentioned during the show the supposed appeal by the russian weightlifting federation ?

No, they didn't talk about weightlifting. Showed something like a home story about Bach in Rio and then they just talked about the awkward silence out of Russia. Also Seppelt said that they would probably win at CAS because of Osaka ruling. So he thinks that IOC wants to avoid that embarrassment by paying Russian athletes.

Seppelt just mentioned in Sportschau that Putin said on Wednesday in Kreml that all athletes  (even if they have been banned) are seen as Olympic champions. This means they get 4M Rubel (about 50k $) and Seppelt implies that this is the reason why only Morozov went to CAS by now. So he thinks IOC pays cash to avoid the appeals!

And two news about athletics.

Mutko asked IAAF to change decision at least for Isinbayeva, Shubenkov and Kuchina.

Stepanova asked IOC to change decision about her.

Especially Isinbaeva doesn't show any signs of understanding the problem there is in Russia. Also her opinion about Stepanova is absolutely disgusting.

Hopefully IAAF does not change decision about her!

Furthermore, the IOC has called on WADA to extend the mandate of McLaren to communicate the names of Russian athletes implicated in the report and the alleged manipulation of the doping tests performed by the Sochi Laboratory to the respective IFs and, where appropriate, to the IOC, in order to "allow them to take swift action".

This will be interesting and will likely be Russia's best hope to compete at the games

In short-term means yes, but long-term?

If McLaren has enough time to reveal everything, this will be even worse for Russia. In his report he already said, that he could only scratch the surface of all issues because of lack of time.

There is a story in the Russian press about a draft letter from the head of the US Anti-Doping Travis Tygart.

The letter was due to be released after the release of the McLaren Report but has been leaked.

It says that USADA "request the removal of the Russian team from both the Rio Olympics and Paralympics" because "the McLaren report has proven Russia has broken the Olympic Charter and the rules of the IOC and WADA".

It goes to say that it has proved the Russian Ministry of Sport and other parts of the Russian government interfered with the anti-doping system.

If this is genuine (and we don't know know it is yet) then this story just got very, very serious for Russia.

This would fit to a short statement of ARD which says that ARD has information about the McLaren report. It will confirm that they cheated with support of Russian Ministry of sport.

Also Sport1.de writing about Tygart's letter.
