  1. Today is the Oscars so here I am with my predictions. This year I managed to watch 33 of the 37 feature films nominated, and all 15 shorts, for a total of 48/52 (or 92%). In the last 2 years, I had 17/24 correct guesses, but missed Best Picture in both. Today, I'm not so sure about the big award either. I'm going with Roma, but this is kind of a "artsy" movie that the Academy members could ignore and go with something more accessible/popular like Green Book or Black Panther (or even Bohemian Rhapsody, which can very well win the most Oscars tonight and take the title of worst winner ever). ["will win" is my prediction / "could win" is my alternate prediction / "should win" is my personal ranking from what I've watched / "shoud have been nominated" is a way to remember other notable work].
  2. Following various inspection visits by FIFA and further meetings with the Peruvian Football Association (FPF), and in view of a number of organisational and infrastructure challenges linked to the event delivery, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided that the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2019 will no longer be staged in Peru. No official confirmation yet but Brazil should host the competition, because according to Conmebol it is the only south american nation capable of hosting in short notice (it will host the Copa América just a few months earlier, so probably the same venues will be used).
  3. Just because the games aren't taken seriously in the US doesn't mean they (Team USA) don't care. More often that not they send their best team in many sports, even the ones that don't qualify for the Olympics. Just look at the Taekwondo competition of 2015, for instance, with multiple Olympic medalists.
  4. What a debacle for Brazil in team sports, at least the committee won't spend money at teams that wouldn't get a medal anyway. Still sad about the decision that didn't allow Brazil's participation in women's football, even though we had a good shot at a gold medal.
  5. Thanks. But I have to say that not only the concept, but almost all of the execution was done by you, so well done
  6. Anyone has the Parapan American Games schedule?
  7. Not that difficult when almost of all them existed already
  8. Volleyball qualifiers for the Olympics will happen at the same time of the Pan American Games, so we can expect a subpar competition (more than usual) with many B/C teams - I wouldn't even be surprised if Brazil and other nations send some kind of youth team. Nice opportunity for Peru to try a gold medal here (Women's)?
  9. And now many matches (mostly from Group A) haven't been played because climate. Not great they chose Sao Paulo as hosts in the month that rains the most in the city

  12. Not wanting to rain on your parade, but...
  13. It was most likely that, which is not surprising since Bolsonaro won a election based on lies like that PT would give a "gay kit" in schools and that Haddad had created an "erotic baby bottle" (this was widely shared on Whatsapp groups and a lot of his supporters actually thought was true) - see image below. About Netherlands, in the video where she speaks about this, she struggles a little to remember the country name and just says "Holanda", which I think indicates it could be any nation and she was just preaching to the choir (she was speaking with lunatics, so they will buy anything).
  14. @heywoodu I was curious for your opinion regarding some of the comments made by our minister of Human Rights. Basically she said that in the Netherlands it's standard practice that parents are taught to masturbate their children from a early age (7 months). She also said in the past that gays are freaks and need treatment - and I guess it's "okay" for a person to have that opinion (dumb people are everywhere), but it's alarming that she's the minister of Human Rights! So yes, that's the kind of people that we have in power right now. A bunch of far right nationalists with a clown president that already is showing his ineptitude to the world.

  16. I'm so used to Rio pictograms that it will be strange when they are replaced
  17. It's certainly the best short of that category, but "One Small Step" would also be a worthy winner.
  18. https://oscar.go.com/nominees "The Favourite" and "Roma" lead the Oscar nominations with 10 each. Other movies nominated for Best Picture include "Black Panther" (7 nominations), "BlacKkKlansman" (6), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (5), "Green Book" (5), "A Star Is Born" (8) and "Vice" (8). Hoping for a "Roma" win for Best Picture.

  21. COPACI confirmed the quotas for Cycling (pending only 1 BMX Freestyle quota in Women's that will go to Mexico, Colombia, Chile or Uruguay). Wikipedia projections were mostly right except for Trinidad that actually has much more quotas than predicted. I've corrected everything in the first page. Like @Olympian1010 said, I guess the nations will be free regarding the athlete's placements in Road/Track events.
  22. Well, somebody must have this info, cause a while back I saw an article in portuguese saying that Brazil had qualified (so far) 7 athletes in Road/Track and that's exactly the number presented in the table. Anyway, the qualification document says "The Pan American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) Continental Federation (CF) will confirm to Panam Sports and NOCs the places they have qualified, by January 15th, 2019." So maybe they already have this info? Can you e-mail them? Anyway, when we have the list, I will separate the quotas of Road/Track in the first page and correct the mistakes.
  23. I don't think so. Wikipedia has the combined results, which seem accurate What is missing is a clarification of which quotas are "Road" and which ones are "Track", which I guess we will have soon with a confirmation by COPACI since the qualification system doesn't specify it like you said.
