  2. Rio 2016 reveals 'look' of tickets for Olympic and Paralympic Games Rio 2016 unveiled the 'look' of the tickets for the Olympic and Paralympic Games on Friday (20 May) morning at the organising committee's headquarters. And the colourful yet practical designs will soon be winging their way out to sports fans around the world who have bought tickets to the Games. "From 1pm (Brasília time) today, the tickets will begin to be sent out from the graphic design company and somewhere in the world someone will receive the first ticket," said Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman. Find out how to buy tickets to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The tickets feature the Rio 2016 sport pictograms, which for the first time in Games history, have one for each Olympic and Paralympic sport. The tickets are being produced by the same graphic design company in the USA that produced the tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Staff at the company, which has 30 years of experience in ticket production, "live to produce tickets" said Donovan Ferreti, the Rio 2016 ticketing director. More than four million tickets for the Olympic Games – 67% of the total available – have already been sold. Two million tickets remain on sale and every Thursday a new batchs of tickets, including for some of the most sought-after events, are going on sale to Brazilian residents. "We will want to tell our grandchildren about the Rio 2016 Game and these are also our tickets to history," said Mário Andrada, executive director of communications at Rio 2016.

  4. O que acharam da música da Coca Cola com o Luan Santana para as Olimpíadas? Considerando tudo, até que ficou bom.
  5. Today Brazil has selected the athletes for 2 of the synchronized events (source): Men's 10m Synchronized Platform: Hugo Parisi and Jackson Rondinelli Women's 3m Synchronized Springboard: Juliana Veloso and Tammy Galera Parisi and Veloso were already qualified for individual events, so that should reduce our total number of qualified athletes. Brazilian trials will continue tomorrow and we will know the qualified pairs for the other events.
  6. Today new tickets are being sold for brazilians and we can see the Basketball and Handball schedules (click on the sport, and seach).
  7. Gamova and Sokolova have announced their retirement.
  8. I actually thought Thailand had an outside chance of qualifying to Rio, but not this way...
  9. Pâmella Oliveira will represent Brazil in the women's event (source). The man will be announced next week.
  10. Great match by South Korea, didn't expect a 3-0.
  11. Dominican Republic played so so bad today, really tragic. Before the tournament I really thought they had a good possibility to earn a sport at the Olympics, but now their dream is gone. Peru has a good team, but I think the last spot will really go to either South Korea or Thailand (which had a fantastic first set against Italy today before things go the expected way).
  12. In addition to the Marathon runners, Brazil also selected its three athletes for 50km Race Walking: Caio Bonfim Jonathan Riekmann Mário José dos Santos Jr. Source Brazil will announce the complete Athletics team after July 3rd (last day of Brazil Trophy).
  13. Apparently the Volleyball matches will be broadcast on YouTube.
  14. Soon after Emese Takacs earned a place for Olympics, a controversy emerged in brazilian Fencing. The athlete's citizenship was suspended after some irregularities in her naturalization process - including the possibility that her marriage with a brazilian was "arranged" (apparently she has another partner). The case was open by Giocondo Cabral, who is a coach of another athlete, Amanda Simeão, the next in line for a spot in the team. The decision is not final, but for now things don't look good for her (more details here). Amanda herself gave some really harsh declarations to the press about her "teammate" (here).
  15. Apparently Larisa Iordache underwent surgery (again) after an injury, having to rest a few weeks before returning to full training. Some early reports/rumours are saying that Catalina Ponor is expected to represent Romania at the Rio Olympics.
  16. A video about the staff and volunteers uniforms (w/ subtitles):
  17. Uniforms for Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled Green, yellow, blue and red. Four colours for one team. The Rio 2016 Organising Committee has launched the uniforms that staff and volunteers will be wearing at the first Olympic and Paralympic Games in South America, set to start in less than three months. Designed with versatility in mind, the uniforms were revealed on Thursday (12 May) at the Games Uniform and Accreditation Centre, which is based at the City of Samba, a warehouse complex in central Rio that is used by the city's carnival samba schools. In all, the Rio 2016 workforce will be made up of around 87,000 people, all of whom will be kitted out in a Games uniform. Divided into four groups, each uniform's predominant colour will indicate the function of its user: red is for medical services, blue for the technical officials (who will also receive a formal uniform), yellow for the operational team and green for those that will interact directly with the public. Rio 2016 brand director Beth Lula said the uniforms' design reflected the character of the host nation and its people. "They were inspired by our nature, by the energy of the Brazilian people and by the visual identity of Rio 2016," she said. "They were created in order to show the essence of Team Rio 2016, who are putting in their all to make the Olympic and Paralympic Games memorable." Games services manager Todd Severson said the the choice of colours would distinguish the staff and align them with their areas of activity. "Blue, for example, fits perfectly for the judges, as the competition areas are also blue," he said. "Similarly, green was chosen because the signage in the arenas will be the same colour. So, what we are saying to the spectators is 'follow the green'." Versatility is another important characteristic and this was put to the test by dancers from the Companhia Urbana de Dança who, dressed in the Games uniforms, put on a dance show consisting of break dance, samba, contemporary, jazz and hip hop at the launch event. The uniform is comprised of a shirt, trousers, (which can transform into shorts), a jacket, bag (which can be used as a wallet or waist pouch), socks, trainers, as well as a raincoat. In total, over two million items were produced, the equivalent of 17 Christ the Redeemer statues stacked on top of each other. "People have laughed about it, but the waist pouch is very useful for those that are constantly on the move and need to always have things like a radio or mobile phone to hand," said Beth Lula. "Flexibility was our guide. Our staff will carry out multiple functions, there will be people working on foot, others in the office, in the arenas. We have thought about each one of them." The Rio 2016 Games will take place during the southern hemisphere winter but, as residents of Rio know, temperatures can still be warm. The fabric, which will wick sweat away and protect from the wind, means the clothes adapt to the cold just as much as the heat. The trousers can transform into shorts with just a quick whizz of the zip. Designed by the Rio 2016 design team and produced by 361º, official supplier to the Games, the uniforms are the result of more than two years' work. "The first sketches were drawn up in January 2014, and production began in December of last year. In order to get to Rio, the items will travel for 45 days by ship from China," Lula said.
  18. I don't know... I think there's a good chance of us winning a total of 0 medals, but it wouldn't surprise me if we got a medal in the women's race walking. Maybe we get a medal with Murer but competition is tougher than ever, and her Olympic history is "disastrous" to say the least. Thiago Braz has good marks, but still needs to win a medal in a big competition. Other possibilty is the men's Marathon, not that we are favourite in any way. All in all I'm predicting zero medals in Athletics.
