The AP prediction is by far the most optimistic at 29 medals, and Gracenote (I believe they'll still update their table) and Sports Illustrated are a tid pessimistic in totals. I believe we should end with something between these numbers, like 23-26 medals. Less than 23 would be disappointing, more than 26 would be great. There's also a BBC projection that doesn't talk about numbers, but give us 20 strong possibilities of medals - so that's one more to the "20 medals" group. All things considered, Sports Illustrated seems the most realistic of them.

I like classic touches, but this is straight up old fashioned. Athletes should feel more comfortable in a opening ceremony.

Globo.com has an article today that explains why the village had issues in some apartments. Apparently, some unsatisfied workers caused the problems in protest because of late payments. Some of the problems these workers caused: put rocks in the toilets, steals some lightbulbs, and constantly making some apartments "dirty" after other workers have cleaned them. Some of these factors couldn't been foreseen (I believe Rio has the first village build with private resources), but the organizing committee admits it should check the buildings as many times as possible before letting anyone set foot there. As of today, 28 of the 31 buildings are cleared to receive athletes (including the australian one), and the 3 left will be cleared til the end of the day.

For Brazil, Varejao is out. Felicio should replace him.
