  1. I think it would be a shock if they loose the gold medal in the team event simply because they have options and room for error. If somehow a gymnast gets injured during competition, another one could do her apparatus - Gabby Douglas is only going to the Olympics to do the UB in the team final, but has good to great scores anywhere else. For individual events, I wouldn't be so shocked if Biles loses one of her almost certain golds (maybe only the AA, in which she could have a fall and still win). I think that we could see an upset if China had a perfect day, and USA had a very bad one.
  2. You had some little problems on beam, but still ended more than 5 points ahead of China in the final (and 9 points ahead of bronze medallists). I think you're safe, especially seeing that some top teams are having troubles in their selections. I don't know much about China, but I think the podium will look something like USA / China / GB/Russia, although I would love if a "new" nation could medal in the team event.
  3. Yeah, I know that you don't like when someone thinks that something is "guaranteed", but c'mon, it would be the shock of the century if they loose. As Nastia Liukin commented in the NBC broadcast, they could potentially send two teams and win gold and silver - I don't think this would happen, but they're clearly far ahead of other teams.
  4. Well, she has a guaranteed gold in the team event. About individual medals, maybe she can win silver/bronze in the All-Around competition and Floor.
  5. USA Women's team: Aly Raisman Gabby Douglas Laurie Hernandez Madison Kocian Simone Biles
  6. Twitter account of FIVB Beach Volleyball. At least they got it right during the draw
  7. Maybe for a change some golfer could use as an excuse the fear of getting murdered in the streets of Rio or being infected by a super bacteria in the waters of Copacabana. The zika virus "card" is getting OLD.
  8. Interesting paper about air passenger arrivals for the Rio Olympics. Regarding international flights, top countries are: USA: 18% Argentina: 13% Germany: 7% Great Britain: 6% Japan: 5% I have to say that, from the matches I went in WC/Confederation Cup, USA had one of the most enthusiastic crowds. And like in the World Cup, I expect a huge wave of argentine fans, especially in team sports.
  9. Brazil Team (source): Men Arthur Nory Mariano Arthur Zanetti Diego Hypolito Francisco Barretto Júnior Sérgio Sasaki Women Daniele Hypolito Flávia Saraiva Jade Barbosa Lorrane Oliveira Rebeca Andrade
  10. I still haven't heard anything about it Probably we will know very close to the Games.
  11. Taekwondo is my "wild" guess, but it could be Shooting. I would like to think that Brazil will be THAT good, but I just don't see it, simply because we aren't a top sport nation like previous hosts. The best comparison for us is Greece, I think. They went from 13 medals (4G 6S 3B) in Sydney to 16 (6G 6S 4B) at home. Similarly, Brazil will improve from London, but not that much. I expect 7 medals more than the 17 we achieved in London, and 2/3 more golds.
  12. I kinda think this is one of the best outfits ever for Brazil, simply because many of our past looks are terrible (always too "costumy").
  13. Brazil Opening Ceremony outfit (in the pictures, athletes Leonardo de Deus, Luisa Borges, Duda Micucci and Fábio Chiuffa): Pedro Gonçalves, Ana Sátila, Aline Silva and Marcus D'Almeida presented the outfits for the press:
  14. Geez, where are the brazilians in this forum? This thread is almost dead. Let's make some predictions for Rio to shake things up: Gold medals (5): Beach Volleyball (Alison Cerutti/Bruno Schmidt) Gymnastics (Arthur Zanetti) Sailing (Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze) Swimming (Ana Marcela Cunha) Volleyball (Men's team) Silver medals (7): Athletics (Fabiana Murer) Canoeing (Isaquias Queiroz) Beach Volleyball (Larissa França/Talita Antunes) Boxing (Robson Conceição) Football (Men's team) Judo (Érika Miranda) Sailing (Robert Scheidt) Bronze medals (12): Beach Volleyball (Ágatha Bednarczuk/Bárbara Seixas) Boxing (Robenilson de Jesus) Canoeing (Isaquias Queiroz/Erlon Souza) Handball (Women's team) Judo (Mayra Aguiar) Judo (Sarah Menezes) Judo (Victor Penalber) Sailing (Fernanda Oliveira/Ana Barbachan) Taekwondo (Iris Tang Sing) Tennis (Bruno Soares/Marcelo Melo) Volleyball (Women's team) Wrestling (Aline Silva) It pains me, but Brazil maybe won't win a single medal in Athletics (it all comes down to Murer) AND Swimming (aside maybe from Open Water). 24 medals is my official prediction for this Olympics, but the color of the medals might change - I think we will win 5/6 gold medals.
  15. Official goals by the Brazilian Olympic Committee - top 10 in total medals (not gold ones); - win a medal in at least 10 different sport disciplines.
  16. It also should be noted that Rio had a lot of test events/competitions during the zika outbreak from January through March (including Gymnastics), and things went well regarding the athletes' health. I understand the fears, especially by what have been said in the media. Personally, I think that's not a reason to miss the Games, but athletes have different priorities and know what's better for them.
