  1. They're still fixing the mast, let's pray!
  2. For 41 nations, this parade is taking too long...
  3. Brazilian tv is showing a problem with the mast for one of the flags, which is falling. Hopefully they can fix it in time. I still remember a problem with the center structure used for the Tokyo segment in Rio closing ceremony, which took like 5 minutes to get off the field because of an issue with the wheels or something. It was nerve wrecking to watch it live.
  4. Agree about the horses but...... let's just say they left their mark
  5. This segment is a similar to Rio OC but I might be a little biased here.
  6. Really digging the projections. And that was an original way of performing the national anthem (don't know if it was entirely successful).
  7. Beautiful countdown
  8. Not exactly an excuse, but some friends that are in Lima are saying that the weather is very cold right now, which is not a good match for summer sports (and I know this because I almost froze to death in one or two events in Rio).
  9. Your male athlete was amazing, really strong SP.
  10. I'm actually impressed by most venues I've seen so far. The Artistic Skating venue is probably the best one ever at the Pan American Games. Also nice broadcast/images.
  11. 12. Kahena Kunze joins her. It's the first time Brazil has two people as flag bearers, although other nations have done it before.
  13. As usual, Brazil gets great scores in competitions no one cares about, but when it's time for the bigger events, half of the team is injured and the other half underperforms
  14. I think the IOC doesn't allow for very original designs for Summer Olympic medals (but apparently this is not a rule for Winter Olympics). I heard some rumors that the Rio 2016 first design tried to incorporate wood to the medals but wasn't allowed, which for better or worse led to a fairly basic final design.
  15. I could be wrong, but my bet is that they're "saving" Isaquias for Tokyo, which would be much more prestigious anyway.
  16. I enjoyed the live blog. It was nice to know what happened today since I was at work.
  17. Even though the women's volleyball competition will happen after the Olympic qualifiers, Brazil is sending a different team here, mostly with young players. I was sure a couple months ago that Peru would win a medal but not anymore. Even teams like Colombia seem to have a better level.

  20. Yay! Another medal(s) for Brazil at a non-Olympic event
  21. I don't think it's entirely fair to call her "another white woman" when she's the first one to be our flag bearer in 18 editions of the Pan American Games (+ an Olympic champion!). Also, Sandra Pires was clearly selected as Olympic flag bearer in 2000 for winning our first gold medal among women, while Yane Marques in 2016 was an odd choice, but kinda understandable when many others where competing in the first days (including, for instance, Sarah Menezes). If a black woman deserved to be chosen at the Rio Olympics, that was Fabiana, but unfortunately I think Volleyball started at the day after the ceremony. I hope she's considered for 2020 if she plays next year (but, again, not likely since it's a team sport with competition starting Saturday). For Lima, I was wishing for Isaquias to be our flag bearer, but I think he might be selected for Tokyo...
  22. In Brazil, SporTV and Record (probably in its "News" channel) will broadcast all the Beach Volleyball action. Unfortunately, no Handball until semifinals
  23. flag bearer will be Olympic champion Martine Grael (Sailing). First time ever a woman will be our flag bearer at the Pan American Games. A nice link to her father (also Olympic champion) Torben Grael, who was our flag bearer in 1995.
