  1. I also think it would be beneficial to have winter/summer categories in the future. It’s really hard to compare the two, especially since winter tends to straddle two years.
  2. Yes, it was also like that four years ago. It actually created some interesting dynamics (in terms of entries). was the only NOC ranked in the top five to field a women’s team. Meanwhile, had to field a men’s team after the NOCs ranked 6-10 all choose women’s teams to avoid the top nations and increase their medal chances.
  3. Femke Bol maybe? For winning a world title after her fall in the relay. It’s the only thing that pops into my head without reading any old threads or looking at results.
  4. will play in the men’s ice hockey (6-on-6) tournament. Any idea on which NOCs will be entered into the four events @hckošice? We already know the rankings, but do we know which events each NOC chose?
  5. This is an example of great journalism. An outlet sought out an expert on the topic of the “interview.” They found someone with great knowledge of the topic, who was also able to vocalize that knowledge in a compelling and coherent manner. They allowed the greater public to propose questions, and the expert then answered a wide breadth of those in those in the interview. Ultimately, they created an engaging and informative product that likely appeals to a wider audience. No one had to yell loudest to get a point across. There wasn’t a bunch of flashy/distracting graphics. The expert wasn’t trying to pander to a particular segment of the audience. Etc. This is just great journalism.
  6. It took them an extra day or two, but these are the quota allocations for bobsleigh and skeleton according to the IBSF. Men's Monobob - (x3) / (x2) / (x1) Women's Monobob - (x2) / (x1) Men's Skeleton - (x2) / (x1) Women's Skeleton - (x3) / (x2) / (x1) IBSF documents: https://www.ibsf.org/en/inside-ibsf/downloads-resources (Gangwon 2024 tab)
  7. Actually, I believe it is Llyn Placid to him.
  8. is probably considered the favorite here for what it’s worth.
  9. IBSF was supposed to post the final version of the IBSF Youth Olympics Ranking list today, but it doesn't appear they did
  10. I thought it was fun when they all tracked that random private jet thinking it was Ohtani
  11. I only watch major championships and multi-sports games, so my votes might be off the beaten path a bit as well.
  12. I'd throw in Ezra Frech as well. He broke the T63 High Jump WR and won the world title this year. He has the potential to become one of the para athletes whose fame transcends the Paralympic Movement. Definitely a name to keep track of heading into Paris 2024.
  13. Wow, v. in the final. Who could have predicted that v. will determine the final quota place for The World Games 2025.
  14. Yes! I'm so happy for Verdu
  15. Russia is still in murky standing with WADA, which might explain why events aren't being "green-lighted" by World Aquatics.
  16. This is written so well. A brutal piece of satire.
  17. Nah, just another IOC talking point. There isn’t much impetus for athletes to fully speak their opinions on the matter. NFs, IFs, and the IOC hold way too much power over them and their opportunities to compete for most of them to want to risk doing anything but echoing the IOC position on an issue. Of course, this could truthfully be the opinion of most athletes, but it is rather difficult to ascertain that for certain.
  18. Ultimately, I think the IOC is going to be the one forced to say no. It doesn't seem like the U.S.. government/NOC or Canadian government/NOC want to risk the political blowback domestically. World Lacrosse doesn't seem to keen to intervene after the The World Games uproar. Of course, much can change in the lead up to the Games. At present, I feel like it will come down to how much domestic support the IOC risks losing barring the Haudenosaunee from competing as a separate entity.
  19. It's quite literally giving them representation under their own flag as their own people (should they qualify).
  20. It is true that my country has done a LOT of shitty things to indigenous peoples. Therefore, giving them representation in a sport born from their culture at an edition in our nation seems like a positive step forward in reconciliation. I get that it’s a complicated situation, but it’s just annoying to see people immediately shutdown the idea and complain about “North Americans” wanting special privileges when so much of international sport is geared towards appeasing Europeans.
  21. Something the Spanish always did in the "New World" when they colonized it
  22. You already get two Czechoslovak teams in ice hockey Let us have this Haudenosaunee includes both “Americans” and “Canadians” by the way.
  23. World Lacrosse joint statement with : https://worldlacrosse.sport/article/joint-statement-from-world-lacrosse-and-haudenosaunee-nationals-lacrosse/
