Kinda the aim of the sanctions. Give the state consequences, but let the athletes compete.

Maria Lasitskiene would strongly disagree with your take   Unless the aim changed since 2016 which makes the whole integrity reasoning total BS.

I thought you know that The ban actually apply equally for all olympic sports beside the OG only for the world championships not for eurpean championships or other competitions like world cups etc..

and honnestly what is about that second question ?

I just wanted to point out the whole integrity part is just cherry pickings. I mean even UEFA banned ALL English teams from taking part in European Cups after the Heysel disaster. Hell, they showed more integrity than FIS and IOC ever did with Russia :p

As for Kuzmina, well, it's not like FIS can prevent Russians from changing nationality either

  3. Not to mention the uniforms can be in national flag colors ;) Let's get real, fans on TV don't pay much attention to emblems to begin with. They're usually too small to be noticed anyway. But hey, integrity! Let's ban the national flag but not the national flag colors?  Would be hilarious if FIS told Russians to compete in purple and green or whatever. But they didn't go that far. Why?

it's the Italian outfit in athletics, we have both a white or a blue shirt with a small national flag close to the heart...

normally the white shirt is used by the long distance runners and race walkers, but there's no strict rule about it...also the other athletes can use it...

however, this is the Moscow 1980 final over 200m and Mennea is wearing our usual blue shirt (as you might notice, in that particular case there's no Flag on it)...

on the other hand, Sara Simeoni has the Flag on her blue shirt...

as I wrote, basically our authorities supported those boycotting the Games, but they didn't actually stop our sports institutions to take part into the Olympics (except for the Military system, which was in practice forced to do it as part of the NATO)...

I recall Italy in white athletics uniforms in late 80s and even 90s but that was after Mennea's heyday, that's what got me confused here. I do remember Fiona May or Annarita Sidoti in all-white too but that's like over 20 years ago and my memory could be wrong.

Didn't like Stefano Baldini win marathon gold running in all white? :mumble:

no, in 1980 Italy competed under our own Flag, but all the athletes enrolled in the Military corpse didn't participate at all...

it was one of our usual compromises, the State as an insitution (and therefore all the Military athletes) boycotted the Games, the private citizens (so, all the other athletes) were given the chance to choose...

our NOC, as a private institution, could use our Flag and Anthem...

this would be the first time ever we don't have our National symbols...and it would be because of a sanction, not on a voluntary basis, which is quite different in terms of public perception...

Then I maybe mixed up some history. I seem to recall Pietro Mennea running in all white kit around that time :mumble:

  6. Italy competed under IOC flag during 1980 Games so let's don't overthink the room here. It wouldn't be the first time multiple nations didn't participate under their own flag.

As for IOC being hypocritical, lol, that's old news. If USA wasn't an Olympic power house they'd have their asses banned for the jurisdiction shift applied by the US politicians. But it's easy to play hardball with Nauru or Somalia and show double standards when it comes to USA :roflmao:

  7. Matt LaFleur blew it with the decision to kick a FG while down 8 pts. He trusted defense rather than Aaron Rodgers. Sure enough, Rodgers never got the ball back again!

This guy Tom Brady tho...  he wins at Lambeau despite throwing 3 INTs that were straight from Jameis Winston days. GOAT gonna GOAT ;)

  8. @Quaker2001 Stan Kroenke build the SoFi stadium for LA Games. Let's don't pretend it's was Los Angeles money, it was Kroenke's private money. And I know you probably had the Memorial Coliseum in mind but with Coliseum alone LA's bid wouldn't be such a no-brainer. Other than the Gulf oil countries, Russia and China not a single country in the world can afford to host the Olympics without any care for public finances. I'm just waiting for Doha to host the Summer Olympics in 2030s, that is another no-brainer given how Qatar has pretty much raised their game into hosting the football World Cup, the second-biggest sportin event in the world after the OG.

i think Poland's goal is to set this team for 2023 WCH , so it's kind of working good in this tournament

This is what Mariusz Jurasik said literally two days ago. But we are the co-hosts in 2023 so it's not exactly Sherlock Holmes-like deduction

    Hungary wins 30-26.

Not that case from the perspective of China or Russia. China and Taiwan KMT party (former China ruling party) are still blaming each other lost Mongolia.

Because of copper and coal? I don't see anything else worth grabbing?

Most Empires over the centuries were naval dominant. It's hard to get to Mongolia by sea :p so maybe that's why Europe never really cared about them.
