  1. 17 different countries won medals in Tokyo. 11 different countries won gold. Of the 14 golds won, 8 of them won by non-European nations Only gold won by Romania in Tokyo. 1 of 2 won by Ireland, Greece. 1 of 3 by Croatia One of the only sports where the USA didn’t win a medal Overall I think that’s a decent record.

  15. Right, if World Rowing is insistent about rowing being held in the LA Metro Area, then they have to cater to the best/most realistic option we can provide. They could always hold rowing elsewhere, likely outside the state, but that has its own setbacks.

  16. Castaic Lake isn’t really ideal. It’s just a dam, and it got pretty low during the bad drought years. I believe it has recovered much water volume with the unusually wet year we’ve had, but other concerns persist. Lake Perris was the venue originally proposed. It was just far away from other venue clusters, not to mention that lake faces similar pressures when it comes to drought. It would also likely require residential facilities to be constructed. Long Beach Marine Stadium relies mainly on seawater, and it already has a lot of the infrastructure needed (or at least room to build temporary facilities). It will be much closer in proximity to other venue clusters as well. The main downside to the venue is the shortened distance, along with the tidal fluctuations.

  17. why travelling so far? they have a couple of suitable lakes close to the big town, one is Lake Casitas (used for the 1984 Olympics), the other (sorry, I don't remember the exact name right now without searching for it) was the place named for the 2028 Olympics in the candidature file they have just to stop whining and build a small athletes' village there and have the regatta in a proper location
    1 point
  18. because they want to use the iconic Long Beach Marina and not the place that was chosen when they presented their bid if IOC and World rowing were serious institutions, they would have recalled the arrogant LA organizers to stay with the original plan same for the Slalom Canoeing Center in Oklahoma City rather than in the LA area

    Varljivo leto 2023.

Da, gledam ih godinama. Bili su jaki i bez Luke, sa njim su kandidati za zlato, bez dileme. Mocni u svakom pogledu. Takvi su u svim sportovima, timski i individualno. Pogledaj biciklizam, atletiku, odbojku... Radi se o sistemu. Radni, vrijedni, dobri uslovi, dobar skauting... Eto rezultata. Kod nas skripi svuda, godinama. Sujeta, losa domaca liga, sve slabiji treneri, igraci koji sve vise lice na fudbalere po poimanju reprezentacije. Nedostatak herca prije svega.

Canada loses to Brazil, will need to beat defending champs Spain this weekend in order to move to the quarters. But hey, Latvia beat Spain today, and Canada beat Latvia. So, logically, it should be a "slam dunk", right? RIGHT? Bad collapse in the 4th, scoring only 60 points for the game after averaging over 110 previously (the most in the tournament). Not great. Outscored 24-13 in the 4th quarter. Yikes.

  33. Amazing (comeback) win for Italy once again! Don't see them winning a medal, but with Banchero it might have been possible. I think Italy might have some down years in the near future, but in the long run they should be very good again (given their results at junior level).

  38. Ahead of the action getting underway, for anyone who is interested, I've (hopefully) attached a tracker of each crew's performances across the 3 World Cups and this year's European Championships - there are probably other regattas that I could/should include, but in the end it comes down to time. Given the vagaries of the sport, there's not a lot of value in including a "season's best" time so it includes all of the crews times across the heats, repechage, semis and finals. Any crew highlighted in blue is taking part in the World Championships. Underneath the World Champs crews, I've also listed the other crews that have been fielded over the course of the year as there has been a lot of experimenting with crew composition this year. Not all of the different 4s and 8s have been listed if only 1 member of the crew has been swapped out. Rowing Performance Tracker.xlsx

  43. Eights is by far the least diverse Olympic event on the program. Like would any event that struggles to field double digit entrants ever be considered for the Olympics? With that said, the Eights is one of the events I look forward to the most so it will be a very sad day when the IOC finally axes the event.
