  2. Day 5 was a relatively quiet day which saw Canada still win one medal. Day 6 has medal chances in judo (men's -100kg), rowing (men's pair and women's pair) and swimming (women's 4x200m freestyle relay). I'd also keep an eye on fencing (women's team foil), France is definitely beatable and while any of the other semi-finalists would be a long-shot, having an opportunity for the upset could result in a shocking medal.

  11. And that medal ties Penny for most Olympic medals for a Canadian. And she still has a couple more chances here (and is, you know, only 21). 4x200 relay is going to be special.

  13. The development of the Netherlands in rowing is beyond absurd. They never won more than 3 medals at the olympics and now they already have 3 after 3 finals. Would really like to know what secret sauce they are using (in rowing/cycling/speed skating).

  15. Hey folks To those who might wonder why you haven't seen any updated standings from the prediction contests, I can inform you that I do update each contestant's points every day. It just take a lot of time to also adjust the standings each day for each contest. I will publish a final standing for each contest when it's over. You can here see the provisional standings (not in order/ranked) of each contest. Miscellaneous 1 Miscellaneous 2 Miscellaneous 3 Swimming

  16. Day 5 Standings Good night, guys! Sorry for not doing live live updates since I was away for the entire day, only being able to see Rowing finals as I went to sleep at around 3-4 AM and also was able to update the standings with Rowing results. But whatever, time for the thing hopefully at least one person was waiting for. Final Day 5 Standings (Top 10 only): 1. Netherlands 151 × 3 = 453 2. Australia 150 × 3 = 450 3. Hungary 57 × 4 = 228 4. Germany 113 × 2 = 226 5. GB 100 × 2 = 200 6. USA 156 × 1 = 156 7. New Zealand 38 × 4 = 152 8. Italy 75 × 2 = 150 =9. China 145 × 1 = 145 =9. Slovenia 29 × 5 = 145 Current Total Standings (Top 10): 1. Romania: 39th -> 23rd (+16) Biggest Losers: =1. Turkmenistan: 35th -> 46th =1. Israel: 38th -> 49th (-11) 3. Kazakhstan: 34th -> 44th (-10) =4. 10 NOCs (-7) Newcomers (1st appearance in standings updates since Day 1): Fiji (=38th) Latvia (=38th) Albania (68th) Moldova (89th) Random Trivia! Netherlands post-multipliers scored less points in Day 5 than only 14 countries in their entire league campaigns. Full Standings are always here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NiyTqxwllnpaL3jr_ziLk4UTxz6QuVU6sQNjZ8FVRUU/edit?usp=sharing Also, the Day 5 and Day 6 Reports will be combined, simular to the Day 3 + 4 Report. And I won't share my schedule as I don't really have one. I am pretty sleepy, so good night the 7 people that will see this!

  17. Xiao had 0.5 less in difficulty than Hashimoto in the horizontal bar. The execution was similar: 8.366 for Xiao and 8.433 for Hashimoto. It all came down to who performed the most difficult skills and, in the end, Xiao lost. There was also a 0.3 penalty for Xiao, but penalties are always a fault commited by the gymnast himself. So, he only has himself to blame for losing the gold medal. China absolutely needs to improve the difficulty of their gymnasts' routines and hopefully do better next time. Let's stop the accusations without supporting evidence. Gymnastics is not skateboarding or surfing.

  19. After Day 5 Rio: 73/306 events, 50 NOCs with medals After Day 5 Tokyo: 95/339 events, 62 NOCs with medals The top three continuing to collect multiple gold medals, now running away from the Russians and Australia now comparable to Rio (5-2-5) thanks to Ariarne Titmus and a strong rowing performance. The games have now started for the Netherlands as well with medal haul of eight today. We're also seeing a renaissance of Austrian sports given the disappointments in previous summer games (0-0-0 in London; 0-0-1 in Rio). Historical day for the Fiji national rugby 7s team as they repeated the success from the Rio games, while Hong Kong will end the games with most medals won at a single Olympics, no matter what. The Tokyo Olympics are slowly shaping up to be a disappointment for the Italians. Certainly not in total medals (3-6-2 in Rio) but still only Dell'Aquila their lone Olympic champion so far. One also notes the high number of 4th* place finishes. Kazakhstan way behind their Rio performance thus far (2-2-3 in Rio) and same can be said about Vietnam (1-1-0 in Rio) without Hoàng Xuân Vinh. 4th place counter* (9) (7) (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals

  27. Yes, Germans were among the “least worst”, no terrible mistake and a decent difficulty degree, so that was their reward. Japanese were quite decent, but still need to polish their entries and lack a great value dive All around the overall level has been dismal, but given most of the divers have not competed regularly, what one could expect. Only Daley (who mostly carried Lee to that Gold) and both US medalist teams showed something decent.

  41. Completely new tactic by GB, just collide with your opponents and take them out of the race ... Also there must be some brexit joke in there ... I thought that maybe the brits got confused because people in Japan drive on the right side of the road, but then i did some research and actually people also drive on the left side of the road in Japan too, so no excuse there. The most obvious explanation: The brits wanted to take revenge for the lost final of the european football championships by taking out Italy, but of course they missed (as usual).

  46. Great work, thanks for this. It is quite interesting. As for Greece, I think we didn't have many medal chances yet, and many will come over the weekend and Monday with gymnastics (Petrounias) tennis (Tsitsipas and mixed doubles), sailing (a few of them), men's long jump (Tentoglou), men's rowing single sculls (Ntouskos), women's 25 pistol shooting (Korakaki), and men's 50 freestyle (Gkolomeev). So hopefully some of those will win medals.
