I heard from some UWW officials that they plan to add Beach Wrestling and/or Traditional wrestling but I'm almost sure they will never ask to replace Greco with them. they will ask for some new events and IOC will say no. I would say just keep the current number of events. you can't get more. while freestyle is more interesting but Greco-Roman is the oldest version of wrestling. more countries win medal in Greco, more popular in Europe. I can't imagine UWW dropping that at will. IOC once pushed for dropping Greco in 2004 but FILA/UWW didn't give up.

is that a serious question ? lol or just joking ?
unlike Taekwondo for example in wrestling this is impossible for wrestlers to compete against someone heavier. even in Judo that's possible but no chance in wrestling for lighter guys. for having a team event, you need teams to qualify full team in all styles (or full team in specific weights) I think only 1 or 2 countires are capable of that making the whole idea impossible. Judo can do that because of the huge number of quotas.

    Per this: https://stillmed.olympic.org/media/Document Library/OlympicOrg/Games/Summer-Games/Games-Tokyo-2020-Olympic-Games/Tokyo-2020-event-programme.pdf#_ga=2.133083277.2096044029.1591722740-1933813303.1588049346

Its 10.616 + the 248 new ones scheduled for Paris.

Also they want full gender equality for 2024 "where ever possible". So one would think that team sports would be equal across the board. Water Polo will need to gain 22 quotas or lose 22 (men dropping to 10 teams) and Football needs to gain/lose 4 teams.

Tokyo 2021 has 10,616 quotas among the core sports +248 for the new sports. So among the core spots we are looking at 363 cuts to quotas. Amazing. I would say drop Artistic swimming (-104) an rhythmic gymnastics (96). That still leave 163 spots to cut. THIS IS INSANE. What difference does an extra 200-300 quotas make to a multi billion dollar budget? The pure stupidity of the IOC is just beyond me now.

Wrestling has a long history in Eastern Europe, ex-USSR and Middle East. It's gonna be extremely tough to remove it from the Olympics as it's also one of the ancient classics. There was an uproar when they tried to get rid of it already so I just don't see that happening. Thankfully wrestling is big in US high-schools and college so I don't suppose USA will push to get rid of that too much.

Golf & tennis are two sports where Olympic gold medal is worth less than a win in Major. These two sports could be easily removed and I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Women's golf being dominated by the South Koreans is another reason USA might wanna look pass it after a while. Then again, golf only got back in 2016 so I suppose it will have to stay for a while yet - unless more big names will openly ignore it like they did in Rio (zika virus was an obvious BS excuse).

Taekwondo already asked for a mixed team event for the 2020 Tokyo, actually there was supposed to be a team event as demonstration or exhibition event in Tokyo. they even had qualifiers for that.
I assume they will ask for that again.

can't IOC stop adding nonsense events like 3x3 basketball or BMX freestyle instead of dropping something else ? I wonder how many other smart idea Bach has.

The answer is no, I believe BWF is quite happy with what it has now. Mixed doubles in badminton have quite a good competition and already in the Olympics before all this mixed gender trend, unlike the half-hearted mixed doubles in tennis/table tennis. The idea of mixed team is not good too since it basically means it will be gold for China or maybe Japan if they caused an upset, which is not the stuff BWF wants to showcase. There won't be any team events in badminton at the Olympics, at least until 2028. Oh yeah also the extra costs for making the medals too, how dare you increase the cost

I don't need to go to the theatre to watch the Swan's Lake - I have it just behind the corner:

PS. What Andersen wrote about an "ugly duckling" becoming a pretty swan is just a big piece of bullshit. Aren't they cuuuuuuuute? ;P

I can look. Some federations make their intentions public, while others wait for the suspense of the announcement.

I don’t know why the IOC doesn’t make it public knowledge what events federations are asking them to include. I feel like it would help gage interest.

I have never really ran a fast 1500m yet, but my plan is to sort of start roughly the same as my 500m, then slow down and get into a bit of a rhythm that's very painful but not impossible to keep up and then just keep going for what feels like at least 55 minutes until I'm at 1500m. It's too short of a distance to be able to afford any kind of getting into a somewhat comfortable rhythm, but too long to just go full retard. I guess there's a reason they call it the hardest one

Today in the 3k I thought I started out pretty strongly, but if my last kilometer was almost half a minute faster than my first, there probably was a bit more to win there. But, as I'm sure you know, there's that fear (well, more like a factual knowledge) of it going to hurt like an absolute bitch and not starting too fast (or fast enough) feels like a way to ease that.

Last Saturday's 500m had no pacing. It absolutely hurts like all hell and you feel like you've just inhaled the core of the sun into your lungs, but at least it's straightforward: go out sprinting as fast as you can and don't stop moving until 500m is done even if your legs are really, really, really struggling to simply keep your body upright in the last 150m.

Right, that's what I'm going for

I mean, 4:10 today was my fastest ever kilometer and that pace would bring me to 6:15, but then again, that was after two already very tough kilometers and Saturday I'll start with 'fresh' legs, so I should be able to go faster. Three half kilometers a teeny tiny bit under two minutes would be awesome.

Even as a pretty Eurocentric historian, I know that the movie doesn't show how the South looked in the 1860s. It's a rather romanticized picture of the situation and especially the slavery (and later freemen).

I'm not a big fan of removing the movie. Putting a disclaimer on it should be more than enough, but it's not like there aren't plenty of movies with slaves. Removing one due to how slaves are pictured isn't denial.

Tearing down statues isn't really just a Middle Ages thing. It has happened plenty of times showing changes.
And though statues do sometimes make people curious enough to look somebody up, it's a long way from erasing history. Statues are made to celebrate people and if they aren't worthy of that, it's not like they disappear.
I'm not for some massive purge of statues, but I don't see why people whose only contribution to history is slavery should be having a statue in a modern society. Don't destroy it, but use it to tell the sad parts of history.
Meanwhile I don't really see why it should end up with buildings destroyed.

Pictograms for the 2020 Asian Beach Games:

Who ever designed the Beach Woodball pictogram has clearly never watched Woodball (it’s basically Croquet from what I’ve seen). Besides, that the pictograms are pretty generic. The 3D effect is a nice touch. I’m not the biggest fan of the Sport Climbing pictogram either. Surfing needs a better position too.
