She's not wrong. Most tennis players engage in sexual intercourse between each other.

It's not like only women are accused of low standards here. Stepanek & Kyrgios are hardly Mr. Nice Guys. Everyone should remember the Kyrgios/Wawrinka beef over Kokkinakis banging Donna Vekic whom Wawrinka left his wife for. Jurgen Melzer had many WTA "girlfriends" too.

Last time I checked Kyrgios was dating Anna Kalinskaya.

Robson herself had a falling out with ex-BFF Eugenie Bouchard over the attentions of their coach. It was after Robson's career went sideways and Bouchard was trending up and wanted the coach only for herself. Of course she flamed out in ultra-quick fashion and Robson never recovered from the original wrist injury either.

It's been all kinds of mess otherwise. Flavia Pennetta & Gisela Dulko's doubles pair split over Carlos Moya IIRC, Dulko has dated other Spanish ATP players too. Pennetta eventually married Fabio Fognini ofc.

Andrea Hlavackova split with Lucie Hradecka because she was apparently involved with Lucie Safarova's coach and wanted to play doubles with Safarova for this very reason. I lost track of all these changes and splits based on pure sexual background and I don't even know how many lesbian doubles pairs split (Lisa Raymond & Rennae Stubbs was deffo one).

It's been almost 10 years since Laura Robson dismissed WTA as "sluts". Andreescu would surely fit the take!

    Let's celebrate the moment!

Medal tables are one of the most interesting parts of the Olympics for me. Yeah probably boring if you are from America because you win hundreds of medals and you practically know where in the table you are gonna finish each time. But for the rest of the smaller nations it really means something when an athlete wins a medal. It’s a great feeling of achievement and the medal table is another aspect of this. And another reason why tables should only be sorted by number of golds won and not total medals because that way smaller nations can climb a bit higher. Fiji with their 1 gold medal beats another medium nation who only wins 3 silvers and 3 bronze. I love that

However, all-time medal tables are indeed boring

Yugoslavia is different, because the now nations inside it were much more even. While in the SU 80-90% of the medals were from athletes from modern Russia.

The only right thing is to have historians break down the athletes from the now defunct nations and add the medals to the current ones.

This is something that i have wanted to see for many years and as a statistics buff really annoys me..

You can't have an accurate all time medal table, when Russian athletes (medals) are counted in one, two, three, four teams, while China for example has all in one. The same goes for other nations.

The table should be adjusted to maximum value each present country with it's historical merit.

They change the articles almost every day, but still here is today's one. UEFA and the clubs organizations have presumably reached an agreement to restart the domestic leagues in late june / early july and then the Champions League and Europe League in august with a potential one match knockout until the end. Then the new football season should start in september.

I disagree. So, Yugoslavia should be counted together with Serbia, too? Different nations must be listed separately.

    Hey all,

I really like the olympic games and unfortunetaly the games were postponed to next year,
so I decided to make a racing bar chart for the top 10 countries with the most medals in the history of the Olympic games,

    please see attached the movie:

I need your thoughts on the graph and ideas for improvement and maybe more ideas for statistics like that regarding the Olympic games.

    Thanks in advance,

For me the top 5 world cup finals were.......

    1) 1986: for 99% of argentinians will be like that for the meaning of that World Cup, the last title, with Maradona in his best moment and with the goal of Burruchaga in the last moments of the match.

    2) 1974: Two impresives teams like Germany and Netherlands makes an expectacular final, is that kind of situation to you want to "win both", Gerd Muller has his deserved title.

    3) 1950: Uruguay defeating Brazil in that World Cup was one of the better examples "David vs Goliat" of all the world cups for me.

    4) 1930: The first final, a terrible hard one when the uruguayans start to have the fame to be "hard" with rivals.

    5) 1970: the best national team ever destroy all their rivals and Italy wasnt the exception, for that reason they are here.

Eh I thought Brazil was going to win the cup..

I still don't know how they lost that game with Belgium, they had just so many chances.

France wasn't that good in the groups, they played a fine game with Peru, were unconvincing with Australia, and had a joke game in the last one.

About the world cup in itself, I didn't enjoy the large amount of penalties, own goals, etc early on. There were nice knockout games though. It was the opposite of 2014 which had awesome groups but was not great after that.

speaking about other games than final , i think that Belgium vs. Japan match in 2018 is very underrated much , for me that was definitely one of the best games ever i saw in the WC , Ghana vs. Uruguay in WC 2010 what a match and what a spirit between those 2 teams to reach a historical Semis and ofc that penalty missed in the 120th minute by the Penalties' specialist Asamoah Gyan made it such unforgettable match , i'd say also Brazil vs. Germany in 2014 OFC that was diffidently a match that'd be remembered for years , Brazil vs. England in 2002 WC QF IMO that was the best match of tournament and the true final of this WC and ofc Italy vs. Germany in 2006 WC Semis , maybe i can add to them Ghana vs. Czech Rebublic in 2006 WC Group Stage that was a hell of a big surprise , Ghana a team that's making their debut in the WC defeating one of the best teams in the world at this date and ofc Czech did a very entertaining Euro 2 years before and they deserved much better result than Semis , these're matches that i can really remember out of the 5 WCs i saw live

the title of this thread is about the WC "Finals"...

so, first of all, I'm going with those games only ranking...

1 - 1954, West Germany vs Hungary...most likely, the best 45 minutes in the history of the game dramatically overturned and followed by the most amazing comeback in WC history...not to be forgotten, all the arguments that followed that games for years and years...

2 - 1982, Italy vs West Germany...probably, the highest point in the Italian football history...no Italian National team has ever played such a good and dominant football like our team did in the last 4 games of that championship (after having gone through one of the worst group stage exhibition, with that still nowadays discussed 3rd match vs Cameroon)...

3 - 1958, Brazil vs Sweden...the first magical appearance on the world scene of the most dominant football team that ever played the game, Pele's Brazil...

4 - 1986, Argentina vs West Germany...the celebration of another magician in the history of the game through a very entertaining match...

5 - 1974, West Germany vs the Netherlands...a true heartbreaker for all the fans of that Oranje team that did show the world a new exciting way to play football...

special mention also to 1990, West Germany vs Argentina...the worst final game ever (with one of the worst referees ever, too)...

but since someone started to include also games of the early stages, here some of my highlights outside the Gold Medal matches...

1 - 1982, Italy vs Brazil (2nd round, group stage)...one of the most amazing games in our football history and one of the major uspets in the WC history...

2 - 1994, Brazil vs the Netherlands (QF)...one of the most exciting games I can remember (among those I watched live at the time)...

3 - 1982, France vs West Germany (SF)...another amazing match, even if it's also remember for one of the most shameful episodes ever happened on a football field ("Toni" Schumacher's foul on Patrick Battiston)...

4 - 2002, not a single game, but a triple-header...South Korea vs Portugal (group stage), South Korea vs Italy (Eightfinals) and South Korea vs Spain (QF)...no need to say why?
basically, the death of football...the worst corruption scandal ever in WC history (even more than the ghost goal in the 1966 final between ENG and GER)...

5 - all the other very entertaining games played in the history of the WC...and there are so many (also among those basically irrelevant for the outcome of the tournaments) that I just can't mention them all...

I watched lots of recorded matches from WCs but they never leave a memony, so I limit myself only to those I watched live. (which means from 1994) and I think the word "best" is relative. this is the list of my memorable WC matches and not finals

    1. 2006 Italy vs Germany
    2. 1994 Bulgaria vs Germany
    3. 1998 Argentina vs England
    4. 2010 Germany vs Argentina
    5. 1994 Italy vs Spain

looks like you're a big fan of Ecuador , actually they're always a cool team to watch they just play for scoring goals despite the team they're facing , btw Carlos Tenorio the one who scored 2 goals for them in QC 2006 had a real magnificent career in al Saad team in Qatar , i remember him very well from playing there

I mostly specifically remember Casillas very clearly touching a ball that crossed the line and so should have been a corner kick (somewhere at the end of the match or even in extra time? Not sure), but the referee missed this rather crucial moment and awarded Spain a goal kick. Plus the winning goal being made by someone who should already have had a red card for some judo move earlier on.

To me the favorite one was the 2010 final between Spain vs Netherlands

(contrary to probably all portuguese, i always loved Spain - have some family there - so I was chearing and celebrating for Spain, not knowing that one day I would move to The Netherlands haha)

I also liked the 1998 between Brazil vs France, probably because it was the first big football competition I watched.
