  1. 2. good luck to her... however, if there's a class where you have quite a few competitive girls, that's the women's "Olympic" +61kg, with Okila-Menna also capable of making the podium in a few international events in the +68kg class and Feryal Abdelaziz being one of the best in the -68kg class... so, I wouldn't be that worried about Egypt's Olympic chances in the women's heavyweights...
  3. OMG!!!!! we have a girl in the gold medal match!!! I just can't believe that! (and she's not there only because of a favourable draw...on her way through the final, she beat among others, also Marianna Sastin, multiple world medallist )...

  6. Russia dominating also the male cadets and Scruggs "in the bubble", going for the double (like Ueno last year)... another disappointing day for Italy and for Jessica Guo, the Canadian 13 years young sensation who already got some interesting results among the senior ranks... these champs are definitely not for the "top" youngsters, who already did show some good stuff in the real men(women)'s competitions...
  7. Men's Cadet Individual Foil Final Results Gold: Egor Barannikov Silver: Paul Antoine De Belval Bronze: Xu Jie & Giuseppe Franzoni Semifinals: Barannikov b. Xu 15-11 De Belval b. 9. that's how it looks "for real" (p.s. I don't like it at all )...

  11. Today's Medallists Recap men's freestyle, -61kg Gold: Arsen Harutyunyan Silver: Beka Lomtadze Bronze: Recep Topal & Randy Adrian Vock men's freestyle, -74kg Gold: Frank Chamizo Marquez Silver: Zelimkhan Khadjiev Bronze: Avtandil Kentchadze & Timur Bizhoev men's freestyle, -86kg Gold: Vladislav Valiev Silver: Piotr Ianulov Bronze: Ali Shabanau & Fatih Erdin men's freestyle, -92kg Gold: Sharif Sharifov Silver: Zbigniew Mateusz Baranowski Bronze: Istvan Vereb & Irakli Mtsituri men's freestyle, -125kg Gold: Taha Akgul Silver: Geno Petriashvili Bronze: Oleksandr Khotsianivskyi & Anzor Khizriev
  12. I saw Petriashvili yesterday and he almost lost to Khotsianivskyi...I think he's also carrying some kind of injury, he just can't be that bad only because of poor shape... and Harutyunyan was like a flash in the dark...one of the most exciting wrestler I saw for quite a while...today's final against Lomtadze left me speechless... for what concerns Frank...well, today he looked in a better shape than yesterday, but I fear he was more Khadjiev being sloppy rather than him being outstanding... still, 3rd European Gold medal in 3 different weight classes for Frank...and this is definitely a big achievement...I don't think there are many wrestlers with such record... now let's see how he shows up in Astana, where he has at least to earn his spot for the Olympic Games...and it could be quite complicated if the draw isn't good (I don't think he's going to take part in the next ranking series tournaments and therefore probably he won't be among the top seeded wrestlers at the world champs)...
  13. 2019 World Cup, Stage #3 (Al Ain, UAE) Mixed Team Trap Gold: Germany 1 (Katrin Quooss & Paul Pigorsch) Silver: USA 1 (Ashley Carroll & Walton Eller) Bronze: Italy 1 (Silvana Stanco & Giovanni Pellielo)
  14. Australian Swimming Championships, Day #4 women's 200m backstroke Minna Atherton, 2.11.18 Calypso Sheridan, 2.11.23 men's 200m free Kyle Chalmers, 1.46.30 Elijah Winnington, 1.46.91 Clyde Lewis, 1.47.92 Ash Brinkworth, 1.48.77 men's 400m IM Mitchell Larkin, 4.14.62 Brendon Smith, 4.14.91 women's 200m breaststroke Jenna Strauch, 2.24.88 Abbey Harkin, 2.25.12 women's 50m free Cate Campbell, 24.30 Shayna Jack, 24.38 Bronte Campbell, 24.51
  15. Mixed Team Trap, Teams qualified to the Final San Marino (Alessandra Perilli & Gian Marco Berti) Italy 1 (Silvana Stanco & Giovanni Pellielo) Germany 1 (Katrin Quooss & Paul Pigorsch) Russia 1 (Tatiana Barsuk & Maxim Kabatskiy) USA 1 (Ashley Carroll & Walton Eller) China 2 (Deng Weiyun & Du Yu) the Final is currently underway...
  16. KHL Conference Finals Western Conference: looking at the final score, it could seem a lot closer than it actually was... game #7 of the Western Conference Finals started as expected, with both teams feeling the big pressure that only such kind of events have... not much happened in the first period, but at the beginning of the second stint, CSKA took control of the operations and quickly scored twice, thanks to Linden Vey and Anton Slepyshev... and even if SKA shortened the distance before the end of the central period, it was always CSKA to keep control of the puck and avoiding any further risk... the third period was only a long wait until the CSKA's triumph, with SKA unable to put Sorokin under real threat... an empty netter by Mikhail Grigorenko with 2 seconds left on the clock definitively sealed the deal for the guys from the Russian Capital... CSKA won the game by a score of 3-1 and the whole series 4-3, but the overall impression is that they were never in danger of losing it all and that right now they are a way better team than SKA... game #7 highlights So, now we know the names of the Gagarin Cup finalists: it's gonna be a great match up between CSKA Moscow and Avangard Omsk... Game #1 of the Gagarin Cup Finals (best-of-7 series, of course) is scheduled for next Saturday, April 13th in Moscow (5 p.m. local time, 4 p.m. CET)... p.s. at the moment, odds are heavily in favor of CSKA (1.75 their win in game #1 vs 4.15 for Avangard and 4.00 for the game to go to the OT)...
  17. I'm familiar enough with women's wrestling to know that they are quite weak, surely below the average (as all the Italian women are, with the only notable exception of Dalma Caneva)...
  18. Swiss NLA the Swiss league completed tonight their semifinal stage...and after EV Zug, who dominated the series against HC Lausanne, also the no.1 seeded team, SC Bern, did reach the final series, which means that we're going to have a final act between the top 2 teams of the Regular Season... Tonight's game #7 between Bern and EHC Bienne/Biel was quite disappointing, with the hosts that scored 3 goals in the first 13 minutes (and the 4th after only 51 secs of play in the second period) and basically closed the game even before it really started... The final series (best-of-7) between SC Bern and EV Zug is scheduled to start already next Thursday, April 11th in Bern... Semifinals Recap SC Bern b. EHC Bienne/Biel 4-3 (2-4; 2-3OT; 6-2; 5-2; 0-2; 1-0; 5-1) EV Zug b. HC Lausanne 4-1 (3-1; 4-5OT; 5-0; 2-0; 5-2) p.s. more on the KHL tomorrow...as I still have to watch game #7 between CSKA and SKA (starting in a few minutes, after the end of the Soccer Champions League matches)...
  19. disaster, absolute disaster for Italy! first, the Borodachev family just destroyed our men's team, then Favaretto once again couldn't add a world youth gold to her career...last year she lost twice (in both the cadet and junior events) to the Japanese talent Yuka Ueno, this time she fell on the last step against an average American, who had the day of her life (she beat also Ueno to make the final)... at that point, the silver medal is just a really small (too small) consolation...
  20. Men's Junior Individual Foil Final Results Gold: Kirill Borodachev Silver: Vladislav Mylnikov Bronze: Rui Fujikura & Mohamed Hamza Semifinals: Borodachev b. Hamza 15-12 Mylnikov b. Fujikura 15-7 Gold Medal Match: Borodachev b. Mylnikov 15-12 Here is the Full Final Ranking (and Results) from Today's competition: http://fie.org/competitions/2019/226/results/rank
  21. Women's Junior Individual Foil Final Results Gold: Lauren Scruggs Silver: Martina Favaretto Bronze: Yuka Ueno & Park Ji Hee Semifinals: Scruggs b. Ueno 11-10 Favaretto b. Park 15-14 Gold Medal Match: Scruggs b. Favaretto 15-13 Here is the Full Final Ranking (and Results) from Today's competition: http://fie.org/competitions/2019/225/results/rank
  22. men's freestyle, Tomorrow's Gold Medal matches 61kg: Beka Lomtadze vs Arsen Harutynyan 74kg: Frank Chamizo Marquez vs Zelimkhan Khadjiev 86kg: Vladislav Valiev vs Piotr Ianulov 92kg: Sharif Sharifov vs Zbigniew Mateusz Baranowski 125kg: Taha Akgul vs Geno Petriashvili
  23. Today's Medallists Recap men's freestyle -57kg Gold: Suleyman Atli Silver: Muslim Sadulaev Bronze: Mahir Amiraslanov & Vladimir Egorov men's freestyle -65kg Gold: Haji Aliyev Silver: Selahattin Kilicsallayan Bronze: Nachyn Kuular & Vasyl Shuptar men's freestyle -70kg Gold: Mustafa Kaya Silver: Aghahuseyn Mustafayev Bronze: Magomedmurad Gadzhiev & Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov men's freestyle -79kg Gold: Jabrayil Hasanov Silver: Akhmed Gadzhimagomedov Bronze: Nika Kentchadze & Muhammet Nuri Kotanoglu men's freestyle -97kg Gold: Abdulrashid Sadulaev Silver: Aliaksandr Hushtyn Bronze: Elizbar Odikadze & Nurmagomed Gadzhiyev
  24. early lead and cruise control mode on! 6-2 the final score for Frank Chamizo in the semifinal match against Khadzhimurad Gadzhiyev... definitely a better performance by our top wrestler than the quarterfinal's (I haven't seen the round #1 bout , so I just can't say anything about that)... tomorrow's final will be against Zelimkhan Khadjiev...and hopefully he's gonna win another Gold for Italy (he just can't lose against a man like the French with Chechnyan heritage)...
  25. Australian Swimming Championships, Day #3 men's 200m IM Mitchell Larkin, 1.56.83 Matthew Wilson, 1.59.41 women's 200m free Ariarne Titmus, 1.54.30 Emma McKeown, 1.56.00 Madison Wilson, 1.56.69 Brianna throssel, 1.56.91 women's 50m backstroke Kaylee McKeown, 27.65 Minna Atherton, 28.03 men's 100m breaststroke Matthew Wilson, 59.67 Zac Stubblety-Cook, 1.00.20 women's 1500m free Bianca Crisp, 16.49.94 Jessica Mouatt, 16.52.30
