  3. Stage #2 ( Toronto) best of day #3 Maggie McNeil swam a new Short Course World Cup record to take the W 100m Fly in 54.78 (just 19/100 of a second slower than Kelsi Dahlia's WR). Yesterday she was followed by Louise Hansson in a very fast 55.02 in one of the best races of the night. Beata Nelson almost broke the 2-minute mark in the W 200m Back, winning the race in 2.00.50 ahead of Kylie Masse and Summer McIntosh (both on the 2.02.X mark). Shaine Casas took another gold in the M 100m Back in a SCWC record breaking time of 48.84 (half a second behind the WR). Ruta Meilutyte beat Lilly King also in the W 100m Breast, but this time with no unforgettable clocking (28.96 to 29.20). Siobhan Haughey won the W 100m Free. She outsprinted Beryl Gastaldello and Katarzyna Wasick (51.33 the winning time for the woman from HKG, also below the 52-sec mark the other girls on the podium). the M 200m Free was the top race of the night, with an amzing finish where 5 men ended up in a 14/100 of a sec span. Brooks Curry eventually came up on top of a clean sweep, followed by teammates Trenton Julian and Kieran Smith (1.42.32, 1.42.35 and 1.42.45 the times of the first 3 guys). Matthew Sates and Danas Rapsys finished the race tied in 4th place, just 1/100 of a sec behind the bronze medallist. finally, Beata Nelson earned herself the title of MVP of the session by winning also the final race, the W 200m IM, in 2.05.08, edging out a bunch of Canadian girls led by Sydney Pickrem (2.05.23) and Summer McIntosh (2.06.57). 4. meanwhile Luka Doncic has started his season with 6 consecutive games always above the 30-pt mark (nobody like him since MJ in 1986). and "maybe-to-play-for-Italy-one-day" Paolo Banchero stopped his streak of games above the 20-pt mark as a rookie at 5.
  6. NPB 2022 Japan Series The Osaka ORIX Buffaloes are the Japan Series Champions! First title in 26 years!!! game #7: Osaka ORIX Buffaloes @ Tokyo Yakult Swallows 5-4 (Buffaloes won the series 4-2) The Orix Buffaloes, champions of Japan's Pacific League, beat the Central League champion Yakult Swallows 5-4 in Game 7 on Sunday to win their franchise's first Japan Series since Ichiro Suzuki and the Orix BlueWave triumphed in 1996. Down 2-0 with one tie after three games, the Buffaloes won four straight games, coming from behind to tie the series at two wins apiece in a three-run Game 5 comeback and never trailed after that, surviving a late Swallows rally on Sunday. Lefty Hiroya Miyagi, working on four days rest after taking the loss in Game 3, started for the Buffaloes and had great movement and deception in Game 7 at Tokyo's Jingu Stadium, getting the Swallows hitters to chase out of the zone. He allowed three hits and a walk over five innings while striking out five. Ryo Ota put Orix on the board on the first pitch, going down for a low Cy Sneed fastball and hitting it out to center for a leadoff home run. The game remained close until the fifth inning, when catcher Torai Fushimi led off with a single. Back-to-back bunt singles followed, a lucky one by Miyagi, and a beauty by Ota down the third base line, with third baseman Munetaka Murakami playing back for a force at the bag. Sneed got a lucky break of his own, a double play on a ball smashed to first baseman Jose Osuna, but a walk and a hit batsman made it 2-0, and center fielder Yasutaka Shiomi missed a line drive hit by Yutaro Sugimoto for a three-run, three-base error. Sugimoto, who twice singled in the first runs when Orix held Yakult scoreless and had an RBI single in Game 2's tie, was named the series' MVP. With a big lead, Buffaloes then went to their bullpen, getting two scoreless innings from rookie Yuki Udagawa before the Swallows scored four runs in the eighth off Orix's third pitcher, Soichiro Yamazaki, three on Jose Osuna's second home run of the series. Side-armer Motoki Higa got out of the inning to preserve the lead. Fushimi gave Orix a leadoff double in the ninth, but Osuna threw out his second runner at the plate to keep it a one-run game. Jacob Waguespack, who earned the win in the Buffaloes' 6-4 Game 5 win, earned his third save of the series with a 1-2-3 ninth. here's Today's match boxscore: https://npb.jp/bis/eng/2022/games/s2022103001862.html
  7. Stage #2 ( Toronto) best of day #2 Katie Ledecky is of course the top hit of last night's program... as already written, she won the W 1500m Free in WR breaking 15.08.24 and then she was second in the W 200m Free behind Siobhan Haughey (1.51.13 for the winner, 1.52.31 for the American). Summer McIntosh swam another JWR in the W 400m IM, 4.21.49 (about 2.5 secs slower than Belmonte's senior WR), leading a Canadian clean sweep. Dylan Carter won the M 50m Back, being the only swimmer below the 23-sec mark (22.94). Shane Casas confirmed himself in very good shape and went not so far away from the WR of the M 200m IM (1.50.37 the time of his win, new SCWC record). Beata Nelson beat Kylie Masse in the W 100m Back (55.75 to 56.16). Maggie McNeil dominated the W 50m Fly in 24.75, only less than 4/10 of a sec slower than Alshammar's WR. Ruta Meilutyte ended up winning a fierce battle against Lilly King in the W 100m Breast (1.02.95 to 1.03.33), in one of the best races of the night. but the top was probably seen in the M 200m Fly, where Trenton Julian edged out Chad Le Clos 1.49.69 to 1.49.78 (the winning time is also a new SCWC record). finally, the M 100m Free: Kyle Chalmers dominated once again this race in 45.52, ahead of Thomas Ceccon (46.15 for him).

  9. NPB 2022 Japan Series game #6: Osaka ORIX Buffaloes @ Tokyo Yakult Swallows 3-0 (Buffaloes lead the series 3-2) Sachiya Yamasaki and 4 relievers combined on a 1-hit shutout to move the Buffaloes just 1 win away from their Japan series title in 26 years. the game winning run came in the 6th inning: with Ryo Ota already in second base, the hero of game 5, Masataka Yoshida was given an intentional walk, but this decision proved lethal when Yutaro Sugimoto, coming after Yoshida in the Buffaloes lineup, hit a 2-out single that pushed Ota home. with the lead in hand, Yuki Udagawa, Yoshihisa Hirano and Soichiro Yamazaki didn't give up anything to the Swallows batters and the game quickly got to the 9th inning, when the Buffaloes scored 2 more insurance runs on the Swallows closer Scott McGough (who was also responsible for the tough error that opened the door for those 2 runs). finally, Jacob Waguespack worked an easy 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th to earn his second JS save and grant his team the 3-2 lead in the series. now the heavy favourites Swallows have their shoulders to the wall, meanwhile the Buffaloes could clinch the title as soon as Tomorrow (but a tie or a Swallows win would force game #8 on Monday, always at Jingu Stadium in Tokyo). here's Today's match boxscore: https://npb.jp/bis/eng/2022/games/s2022102901861.html game #7 is scheduled for Tomorrow (October 30th) in Tokyo, always @ 6.30 p.m. local time (10.30 a.m. CET).
  10. @hckošice RTVS :Sport is broadcasting the Short Track Speedskating World Cup live!!! I didn't really expect that! (in Italy for instance we only have to rely on internet players like Eurosport Player/Discovery Plus...no chance they show it on regular TV channels)
  12. yesss! nice to see a young Italian girl making a world cup final right now, when we have to survive without Queen Arianna (Fontana)...
  13. as I wrote, it's not a full recap, it's just the "best of day 1"... and jokes aside, that wasn't one of the top races of the day (I know you're very proud of the Canadian clean sweep, but I normally don't give much credit to non-Olympic distances, unless record breaking times or upsets of "big names" are recorded).
  14. Stage #2 ( Toronto) best of day #1 Summer McIntosh won an amazing W 400m Free race edging out Katie Ledecky in a tight sprint finish (3.52.80 to 3.52.88), swimming also the new JWR (and it would have been also a new senior WR, if only Li Bingjie didn't go even faster yesterday at the Chinese WC trials). Matthew Sates doubled up his success in Berlin in the M 400m Free in 3.37.52 ahead of Kieran Smith and Danas Rapsys (both over 3.38). Shane Casas, a true short course specialist, won 2 races: the M 200m Back in 1.48.99 and the M 100m IM in 51.03. Kelly Pash upset the more experienced Hali Flickinger and Katerine Savard in the W 200m Fly (2.03.61 for the winner). Chad Le Clos won the M 100m Fly with an excellent 48.88 over Matthew Temple and Trenton Julian (both at 49.x). Lilly King beat Sydney Pickrem in the W 200m Breast (2.18.43 to 2.19.71, they were the only 2 swimmers below the 2.20 mark). Katarzyna Wasick dominated the W 50m Free with the new NR of 23.27 ahead of Maggie McNeil and Madison Wilson (both still in the 23's). finally, Dylan Carter was the only man below the 21 sec mark in the M 50m Free (20.91). Day #2 comin'up...
  15. KBO the third round of the 2022 Playoffs is over. earlier Today, the Kiwoom Heroes won game #4 of the Seoul derby against LG Twins by a score of 4-1 and took the series 3-1 (3-6, 7-6, 6-4, 4-1 the single matches). after both teams scored 1 run each in the first inning, the winning hit of Today's game came in the bottom of the 3rd inning. it was a solo-HR by "el caballo loco", the Cuban Yasiel Puig, former player of the L.A. Dodgers and of the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB. then the Heroes added 2 more insurance run in the 7th, but it was mainly thanks to their pitchers shutting down the always dangerous Twins bats that they earn today's win. with this success, the Heroes advance to the 2022 Korean Series against the Regular Season champions, the SSG Landers from Incheon, who have the home field advantage in the best-of-7 series. the dates of the matches are still TBC (but the series should start next Tuesday).
  16. NPB 2022 Japan Series game #5: Tokyo Yakult Swallows @ Osaka ORIX Buffaloes 4-6 (series tied 2-2) Finally, today it was time for an amazing, throbbing match. we saw almost evertything it's possible on a baseball field, we had a lot of lead changes and an heartbreaking finale. in the first 4 innings it looked like the same old story, with the Buffaloes not capitalizing their chances and the Swallows taking a comfortable 2-0 lead. in the 5th stint Masataka Yoshida hit his first HR of the day cutting the distance to one and giving his teammates a good wake up call, so that they also started to lay down some convincing hits and manufactured the tying run at 2 apiece. in the 6th inning the Buffaloes carried the momentum on and they even took the lead by a score of 3-2. but the Swallows' reaction came strong in the 7th inning, when they scored twice to regain the lead, 4-3. when the American closer of the Swallows Scott McGough came in at the beginning of the 9th inning, it looked all over. and instead no, not today...first, the Buffaloes scored the tying run and then Masataka Yoshida became the hero of the home team, sending a 2-run shot deep in the stands and giving his team a great win and the provisional tie in the Japan Series. now Buffaloes and Swallows head back to Tokyo for game #6 and #7 (and, if necessary, also game #8). here's today's match boxscore: https://npb.jp/bis/eng/2022/games/s2022102701860.html game #6 is scheduled for Saturday (October 29th) in Tokyo, always @ 6.30 p.m. local time (11.30 a.m. CET).
  17. so, after 3729 competition, we're finally done with this exhausting championship... China dominated left and right with 27 Gold medals, followed by India with 12. Norway ended up in 3rd place with 7 Gold medals, especially thanks to the 300m disciplines (where and didn't participate). the other Countries winning at least 1 Gold medal were (4), and (3 each), and (2 each) and (1 each). in total, 25 Countries (from only 3 Continents) won at least 1 medal (no matter the color). the Full Medal Table is here: https://www.issf-sports.org/competitions/venue/schedule.ashx?cshipid=3074

  20. Women's Team 300m Prone Rifle Gold: Norway Silver: Switzerland Bronze: Germany
  22. Maria Centracchio, Olympic Bronze medallist in Tokyo last year (Judo, W -63kg), has fibromyalgia, which means that her career is over earlier than expected. source (in Italian): https://www.oasport.it/2022/10/judo-maria-centracchio-ha-la-fibromialgia-stanchezza-persistente-affaticamento-a-ogni-sforzo/
