Amazing result, Park really deserved it, but Grumier wouldve been an even better winner. South Korea isnt good in many sports, but almost all of their gold medal contenders win the gold. Of course it helps that all their gold medal winners wont have to work ever again, its a huge motivation for those athletes.

Very disappointing swim by Le Clos and Cseh. With his time at the european championships, Cseh wouldve won gold. You have to give credit to Kenderesi, because he didnt go out too fast. If the race wouldve been 10 m longer, than Kenderesi wouldve won the gold. Russians are the bad guys, but americans are winning all the golds, really funny to see. You really have to feel for Russia, they know that the other top nations arent any cleaner, but they cant prove it. No one wouldve thought that Watanabe or Scott could fight for a medal and now Watanabe might even win the gold.

For me France and USA are the 2 best teams and Sweden/China arent even in top 5, so our path to the semifinal should be clearly easier. I am not saying that Canada doesnt have a chance, considering how many canadian athletes are overperforming here and also how much Canada always seems to overperform in womens football at the olympics, but for me they are still clearly the underdog in a match against USA/France. German coach for example didnt use Däbritz who normally always plays and the substitutions in the second half were also very weird. I think we never wanted to win the match, but of course we aimed for a draw. This doesnt mean that the german team is better than the canadian team at the moment, but there was clearly no reason for Germany to win this match.

I pray that Armstrong wont win, a 43 year old winning gold in a sport that is 100% about endurance would just be ridiculous, but with americans you never know.

Congrats, but is that really important? For me a medal would be much more important than a win against Germany ...

I really dont get why Canada was so happy about that win ... ? They will have to play France/USA now, Germany on the other hand will play against Sweden/China.

Cant believe it, the second safe gold we lost today and the second time that France profited from it. Many german athletes are mental midgets, no doubt about that.

I think Jung will make at least one mistake in the second round, he didnt look too convincing in the first round, Nicolas could win his second gold today.

Yeah, we always start slow, i think 4 years ago it took even longer for us to win a medal. This time Biedermann (mens 200 free), Engleder (womens 10 m air rifle) and Hausding/Klein (mens 10 m synchronized) already could have won a medal, but it wasnt meant to be apparently ...

Congrats, of course i would have preferred a gold for Germany, but France taking the gold is better than Australia or New Zealand taking the gold, especially because you also have been pretty unlucky in Rio so far. Its crazy that the german team still won the silver, although they couldnt have performed any worse. This could have been the easiest gold ever, but Klimke and Auffarth obviously were satisfied with their gold from 4 years ago and didnt want to win another one ...

If you dont mind, then please allow me to still write what i think, just in case that other people might not have your divine talent to read my mind: 1) 54/91 is still less than 38/64 2) Would you say that the level of competition at the olympics and world championships is the same? Am i right to assume that the average quality of athletes at 2014 world championships was lower than the average quality of athletes in Rio or would you say that most of those 27 athletes who werent allowed to compete here but competed at the last world championships would have been able to finish the course as expected? You have to wonder why all those world class athletes didnt manage to qualify ... 3) I want to ask another question, of course you dont have to answer it: How often in the last 6 olympics (1992-2012) or 7 world championships (1990-2014) did at least 59% of the athletes retire/had to whitdraw/had at least one refusal?

Yeah, but this time 38 out of 64 were eliminated, had to retire or had a refusal. So if this is quite normal, then please tell me: 1) When was the last time that more than 59% werent able to finish the course as planned? Simple question and if a course like that is quite normal for a competition like olympic games or world championships, then you should be able to find the answer pretty fast. 2) When was the last time that no team was able to finish the course with all four riders as planned, having no refusal/retirement/elimination? I understand that most people want to see Germany lose, so i dont expect anyone here to have an unbiased opinion, especially because you expressed before that you are not a great fan of Jung, despite the fact that he is without a doubt the greatest eventing rider of all time.

I said that its a lottery if its a course like today, not in general ... 1/4 of all the riders were eliminated or retired during cross-country. Of the remaining 48 riders 22 had a refusal. So out of 64 athletes in total only 26 were able to ride the course as planned, for me thats not acceptable. Each team had at least one rider who got eliminated or had a refusal, so obviously it wasnt about having a bad day, no nation really knew how to handle the course. IOC will kick out eventing and probably also dressage sooner or later, but probably for another reason. There are just extremely few people who care about this sport and thats all that IOC is about.

Klimkes mistake was obvious, she was riding too fast and therefore missed the obstacle, the german coach told her to risk everything. If this is what eventing should look like for you, then it hopefully will be kicked out of the olympics because no one wants to watch this shitty lottery.
