  1. It would take quite the collapse for any of United States, New Zealand or Fiji to miss qualifying to the Olympics. South Africa got some valuable points to create a bit of a buffer over England (Great Britain), but that can easily disappear over four legs.
  2. With IAAF releasing its entry standards the following nations have been removed That 10 nations in total!
  3. There's no limitation, outside of the maximum per event and athletes achieving the standard
  4. That's the reason why the standards are so tough. However, it is possible we could see that scenario. In 2018, 28 eligible athletes reach the standard in Men's 100m while at the 2016 Olympics 24 nations chose to use their universality quota in the men's 100m. This would take up 52/56 quotas meaning there is a chance for the men's 100m to go over. The options would be to allow a larger field or kick out the slowest men whom reached the entry standard. Though reading the documents the IAAF seems to be attempting to avoid this scenario by stating the highest ranked male and/or female athlete will be given the quota which could prevent some nations from just having the 100m as their default choice.
  5. Yeah, only 11 athletes achieved that mark or higher in 2018. The standards seem to be at least 1200 result score points.
  6. So far the following nations have reached the standards (10000m, marathon, walks and combined events) Men's Marathon (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (2 athletes) (2 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) Men's 20km Walk (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) Men's 50km Walk (3 athletes) Women's Marathon (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (3 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) (1 athlete) Women's 20km Walk (3 athletes) (2 athletes) (2 athletes) (1 athlete) (1 athlete)
  7. They're not too bad when you consider IAAF only wants 15-20 athletes to achieve them.
  8. The priority will be 1) Athletes from NOCs with no qualified athletes 2) Athletes whom achieved the Entry Standards 3) Top athletes from the World Rankings up until the max quota is reached. Hopefully all the non-qualified athlete NOCs don't all choose the 100m race.
  9. It was either that or be banned...
  10. Probably not, at minimum one of Israel or Poland will take the individual spot while the second spot seems to be quite competitive (assuming one of Israel/Poland gets the team quota). Does Croatia have a great rider that's not on the Longines ranking?
  11. Haha, maybe everyone thought the Moscow would be the easier one and went there...
  12. So I guess the African Games tournament won't be the qualifiers. It's basically a bunch of home and aways, just like last time.
  13. Shooting can be quite random, it also doesn't help that Germany's best chance at qualifying had their quotas revoked.
  14. Removed qualified in modern pentathlon
  15. China will also be eligible to compete with a second team in the mixed team event.
  16. Looks like this will be an Egypt vs. South Africa affair, haven't heard of any other nation competing.
  17. Based on a few news sources it seems that the African qualifier will be the 2019 African Games to be held in Morocco.
  18. Here are the top 5 athletes by individual qualification score (IQS) who are also still eligible at winning a quota for their nation in the seven events. I know IQS isn't the best system as some athletes from nations with depth tend to not have them, but it's still interesting to see who is among the favourites. Men's 10m Air Rifle 1. Deepak Kumar - 630.1 2. Nam Tae-yun - 628.2 3. Mahyar Sedaghat - 628.0 4. Alin Moldoveanu - 627.9 5. Peter Sidi - 627.8 Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions 1. Istvan Peni - 1186 2. Bernhard Pickl - 1182 3. Laura-Georgeta Coman - 626.6 Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions 1. Nina Christen - 1178 2. Katrine Lund - 1177 3. Franziska Peer - 1176 4. Gankhuyag Nandinzaya - 1175 5. 19. Only the quotas for the men's 25m rapid fire pistol will be reallocated. All other quotas will go on as scheduled Link
  20. To be fair Pakistan only wanted the Rapid Fire Pistol quotas to be reallocated and their athlete does have a decent chance at qualifying, though more likely at a later World Cup event. Still there should be zero tolerance for not allowing a member nation to compete.
  21. So it looks like the decision is not yet final. The final decision will be made in about 5 hours from now. I imagine this was to pressure India to give the Pakistan shooters their visas. With the RFP event held on Tuesday it's still possible to get everything settled and not have the athletes too impacted.
  22. I think it was for the best for karate given what was done to it in 2020. At best, individual kata could have remained and expanded so that more than 10 athletes would compete.
  23. Maybe with the World Championships being almost two months after the Pan American Games more athletes will show up. Canada seems to be letting their best go to Lima (whether or not they want to go is debatable)
  24. I mean, that's almost all the sports on the program once you add in the non-Olympic sports (minus Baseball). It's the same for Canada; just because we don't send our best in athletics or swimming doesn't mean we don't care about the Pan American Games.
  25. Just checked the calendar, so far India is not scheduled to host any other direct qualifiers though they are essentially guaranteed to host a field hockey play-off match (which should have no issues as long as it isn't against Pakistan and even then I imagine the match would still go on) so they are unlikely to feel any large sanctions for this Olympic cycle.
