Question about Double Scorers. Seonaid MacIntosh has had performances good enough to get quota spots for GBR in Air Rifle and 3 Position 50m Rifle events. Because she gained the latter space first, she cannot gain another quota in the Air Rifle as well, which I get. If she is selected then she can compete in both events as she has the MQS. However what happens if she is injured? The quota goes to the NOC so does that mean Team GB can pick which event their competitor does, or does it have to be the first event quota obtained?

I cannot make out what the position is for the winner of the Continental competition, if she/he has already gained a place in the World Champs - does the NOC get another place (subject to not already having two), even though it is the same diver, or does it go to the next NOC/diver not yet qualified? And why is it so difficult?

Two excerpts from the Qualification document. First: "Section B3. Type of Allocation of Quota Places: The quota place is allocated to the NOC." Second: "Section F. Reallocation of Quota Places If an athlete who has obtained a quota place in accordance with FINA Rule BL 9.3.8.3.1 has not been entered to the Olympic Games, the quota place shall be reallocated to the next highest placed NOC from the respective event, at the FINA Diving World Cup 2020, not yet qualified " Is it the athlete or the NOC? So, if Tom Daley of GBR fell ill and couldn't make Tokyo, would it be another diver from GB or the next NOC from the Diving World Cup?

How do you qualify 5 or 6 from a Boxing Qualification Tournament? I can see 4 or 8 is straightforward (all semi- or quarter-finalists), but does that mean there are a series of fight offs between people who have already been beaten up?

Also, what happens to the European Continental quota place for the Duet competition if Ukraine get a Team slot at the World Aquatics, followed by, say, Spain and Italy getting two of the remaining Team slots at the Qualification Tournament. Does this go to GBR as the next unqualified pair from the European competition, or the next available Duet slot at the OQT?

Does anyone know where to get confirmation of when and where the Olympic Qualification Tournament takes place? I have seen one place say Bogota: 22-26 January 2020. However, this link shows Tokyo: 30 April to 3 May 2020. Anyone have a definitive?

Because Germany won a quota place in the Mixed Doubles at the European Games (and their entrants need to come from their successful Teams, also qualified, then this adds one extra space into the Singles Qualification for each of Men and Women. "Any qualified athletes in Mixed Doubles must be part of the team composition if their NOC has qualified a team of that gender" Does this extra place get filled at the Singles Qualification Tournament, or via the World Ranking? I think it is the Qualification Tournament, up to a maximum of 8 (when you allow for other situations like Germany's, from a minimum of 2 places at the Tournament), and then after that the World Ranking, but my head hurts now. I agree that Table Tennis has made this the most complicated process possible.

I agree that there is a potential conflict of interest. However, ask any Scot which they would much rather happen - Team GB qualify for the Olympics or Scotland beat England. 999 times out of a thousand they will say Scotland to beat England!!! Even the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon said as much before the World Cup.

Although Hockey have sorted this for the Pro League this year for qualification

The Men are more paranoid that FIFA will withdraw the separate recognition for the four nations.

Does anyone know who has qualified for the World Series Final in Budapest? I think Britain might have actually been half decent and made the finals, which would be a miracle, but cannot find anywhere which countries have made it through.

It looks like the ETTU have clarified the position re Singles Qualification for European Continent places for the Singles: only the three medallists (per gender) will go to Tokyo. Therefore, if two of them are from the winning Team, then the other two places are reallocated to a separate European Qualifying Tournament in April 2020 (being held in Moscow). GBR in the Mixed Team Trap? They now have one quota position in each of the Men's and Women's Trap, so I think that means they will be in the Team event.

That is my view as well, although I cannot see anything in the Qualification document that says that the additional places come from the Singles Qualification Tournament - it reads like it all comes from the Rankings, but not totally clear.

I have been trying to work this out as well. The Team places (45 places per gender, excluding Japan), 22 Continental Singles places, 1 Tripartite and 3 Host Nation places equals 71 places. Assuming all 15 qualifiers for the Mixed Doubles for any one gender (excl Japan) are already in the Team Competition, then this leaves 15 places for the WSQT and World Ranking. A minimum of 2 come from the WSQT, so hence up to 13 from the World Ranking. However, I cannot work out what are the circumstances when more than 2 would qualify from the WSQT?

Am I the only one wondering why there is such a mismatch between the weighting system in the rankings and the actual competition? The points system so heavily favours the three-week Grand Tours, and yet this is a one-stage race. Would it not make more sense to limit the ranking points to the one-day races and World Championships (TT apart)?

Why not say it like that then? I thought that was the case, but was curious whether others agreed or not. I was trying to work out how they got to a maximum of 8 men/7 women, so this also supports Team Pursuit x 4 plus Team Sprint x 3/2 plus Omnium x 1. Anyway, the end of 2018/19 season rankings should be coming out in the next day or so incorporating the 2019 WChamps, so we will be halfway there now.

Has anyone worked out how the Omnium, Madison and Team Pursuit tie in? If an NOC qualifies as top 8 for Team Pursuit, they get an automatic entry into the Madison - I get that. Does that mean they also get an entry into the Omnium as well? Teams "directly qualified in the Madison event" get a place in the Omnium as well, and the rankings for the Omnium is supposed to exclude those who "have not directly qualified any quota places in Madison". So what does that mean for the Team Pursuit qualifiers? Do they go into the Madison rankings for these purposes? I feel like I am disappearing into a vortex trying to work this out.

phelps, thanks for the detail - you seem to come to the same conclusion as myself, which is the season has already started, but there is no transparency on the detail yet. I get the impression that the VPS and SLS organisations are reluctant partners in all of this, as neither seems keen to acknowledge the Olympics. For example, I think(???) the World Roller Games in Barcelona in July will include Street Skateboarding but not Park. It is not clear if this is a ranking tournament at all. I will be interested to see if Olympian1010 gets anywhere.
