  1. Miami 1000 has started today; :UKR Marta Kostyuk beat :ITA Elisabetta Cocciaretto in R1 so we have the high drama R2 match vs Anastasia Potapova coming next. We could have some ugly scenes in that one if things boil over, Potapova is hardly as anonymous as Gracheva who played Kostyuk in the Austin final three weeks ago.

  2. Top nations have the resident problem that newcomers are blocked by veterans who can keep up the relative high standard for several years even if they're #5 or #6 on the depth chart. Sometimes there comes a fortunate break with a pregnancy pause or it has to get drastic like the Italians did with Sanfilippo to make room for the youngsters. It's never a problem for minor biathlon nations where talented & successful juniors can immediately move into World Cup level full-time (see Żuk in Poland, Davidova in Czech Republic or Todorova in Bulgaria).

  3. :KAZ Elena Rybakina wins Indian Wells 1000 beating Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(11) 6-4 in the final. Definitely the two most in-form players to sit behind Świątek in the rankings. If Wimbledon virtual points counted then Rybakina would be #3 in the rankings on merit.

still, the race is scheduled once again late in the afternoon.

you already know the forecast is not good at all and then you persevere to put events in the worst possible clocking with no chance of "playing with time"?  :wall:

Men's pursuit and women's sprint are put either side of the cross-country races in Falun. Since Norway can control the Holmenkollen schedule I'm pretty sure they want to avoid TV window clash.

Another proof that most sport officials are completely braindead. They could have scheduled this race for earlier this day or they could have scheduled both sprints for yesterday, but instead they created a schedule that only would have worked if no race/only men's sprint had to be delayed. I guess just canceling women's pursuit/mass start doesn't matter, because it only hurts the athletes. The same has happened in ski jumping many times before. They schedule a competition as late as possible and then they are shocked when they have to cancel it because they can't postpone it. At the 2018 olympics one of the ski jumping competitions finished after midnight ...

I'm pretty sure today's sprint was scheduled so late so it didn't clash with the World Cup cross-country races in Falun. Norwegian TV probably wanted to avoid the overlap. There was no cross country yesterday so men's sprint was not affected.
