  3. A medal for Braz Seriously, I think he should give a class on how to handle pressure at the Olympics, even after failing at every other competition

  5. Olympics website has now added this ominous disclaimer. Thomas Bach, Fencing Champion, 1976, will declare that there will be a breakdancing play-off to decide who goes to the final.

  6. Karalis doped of course. That's the only way how he could possibly improve from 5.65 to 5.80 in less than one month.

  7. France as expected. Now I can only hope Argentina can prevent Ngapig from getting a medal

  14. Yes, @heywoodumentioned it. When he was 10 months old, he hit a pan with boiling oil and it fell over his head and shoulders. He was hospitalized for months. Also, the last time that a Brazilian individual won a medal on track at the Olympics was in 1988, so he broke a long lasting curse for us.

  21. I'm glad I had a heart check up yesterday and even though I discovered I have high blood pressure -- yes, it sucks -- at least my heart is in good shape. Following this marathon was all the proof I needed. LOL.

  23. So Karalis 4th in PV with 5.80 and Baehre 11th with 5.70... Hey @OlympicsFan, remember at the European U23s last month when you said Karalis only won silver because Mondo and Baehre weren't there? And that Karalis would not have won a medal if they went?

  25. After a pretty strong start, we'll be lucky to see 20 medals total. Golds? Forget about it. We'll hear more "They tried, they were injured, we're just happy to be here". And I'm just some dude who never came close so screw me. But holy shit, Canadians, generally speaking, cannot perform at the Olympics.

  26. I don't like this format. One fence down and you are basically out? Ridiculous. Mostly because all other championships are NOTHING like this. There are usually 3 jumping rounds before the individual final starts.

  29. That one qualifying throw as if he just stepped out of bed would have been good for gold in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 and silver in 2016

  30. About the finals: I totally get you. It's the weirdest edition of the Olympics I've ever witnessed. As a silver lining, at least, after years of the same old countries on the podium on the women's side, we finally had a big diversity of nations with a medal: Brazil, Japan, Great Britain, Italy, Belgium and South Korea, along with Japan, ROC and China, as expected. On the men's side, it actually felt like something was missing. Verniayev was out due to doping, Uchimura had a terrible performance, Nagornyy was mostly disappointing, the Swiss didn't even qualify for the finals, the Ukrainians had the worst possible Olympics in their lives, the Turkish performed badly in the finals -- except for Arican -- and, of course, Dalaloyan was injured and did absolutely everything he could, but still it felt like he's capable of a lot more. About Brazil: Rebeca got two medals, one of them gold, and both Zanetti and Nory failed, so I'm not only happy; I'm overjoyed. I'm only sad for Flávia. Of course she didn't deserve a medal here, but she works so hard and I hope she gets at least a medal at the World Championships before retiring. Maybe her foot will heal quickly enough for her to be able to go to the World Championships this year...

Srbic Japanac malo bolji, ali za HR velika medalja u jednom od bazičnih sportova Huklek za broncu, bio je bez izgleda protiv Ukrajinca, ako se ne varam protiv Njemačke ili Kirgizistana

  32. China would have had a very realistic shot at a sweep if it wasn't for the two per country rule. Their beam work right now is just on another level.

  33. Nice, a medal for Turkey. After all the bad luck from the previous day, it's good to see they have a medal now.

  34. Making the bronze medal final in this field is perhaps the biggest reward. We had to beat out some great teams to get there and the US had their sights on the gold. We finished 4th at the last several World Championships.

  35. Is this our German friend?

  36. yeah I think they were throwing it yesterday too. The one thing going for Canada against the Americans is the Americans went extremely hard against the Brits who set a new world record to try and get into the gold medal final

  37. Ultimately, Canada was never going to be top 2, so maybe saving themselves for today will work out. They get a medal race!

  38. The results of Berecz at the Olympic Games 2008: 29 2012: 21 2016: 12 2020: 2 I am not sure when was the last time I have seen such a consistent improvement from Olympic cycle to Olympic cycle until they became an Olympic medalist. And this is in a sport where we are severely handicapped compared to other countries (even if we obviously have one big lake).

  49. Gold for Mihambo! Good. I couldn't really stand another gold for Reese 5 seconds until @OlympicsFan comes in to tell us how Mihambo is on doping and totally fluked it!

  50. Is it only me who are annoyed by @OlympicsFan comments? He talks trash about everyone except maybe Germans. Why can’t we support each other? Greece deserves the gold in long jump. It’s not their problem if the competitiors can’t stay healthy. It’s part of the game to stay healthy. Hassan and doping? What the heck? Shall we blame every great sportsman/sportswoman for doping now?? Please.
