  1. History for Liechtenstein. A microstate qualifying in an event like this (with fully home-grown athletes) is rocket science, but apparently possible.

  2. sad to be said, but this farce is the perfect end of a crazy, completely wrong and messed up qualification procedure... WKF did everything to justify their exclusion just after the Tokyo Olympics... they wanted Kata in, sacrifying 2 weight classes for each gender in Kumite, they accepted to have only an odd number of athletes per event (10) when normally we have more than 100 competitors in each class at the world champs, they put on a shameful and not understandable (and even prone to manipulation) qualification system, they chose the more than controversial round robin system for the final phase of the one and only global qualification tournament and finally, this one... with all the love I feel for the sport, this is just unacceptable and they deserve to be kicked out from the next Games... I truly hope they would eventually understand all of their mistakes and find the way to comeback with a better and fair product in the future, but I fear that's almost impossible with such kind of officials running the WKF... right now, I'm excited for the opportunity to watch the Olympic tournament, but at the same time I'm really sad for the poor management of all this and the consequential lack of perspective in the next future...

  3. Canada was winning 3-3 (on Senshu) but received a penalty in last 3 seconds for stepping out. which annuls the Senshu. a draw was enough for the Netherlands to qualify. the match ended 3-3 draw and Netherlands qualified. (alongside KSA and Georgia) they awarded the women's medals but then right before the award ceremony they called both of those guys to the Tatami telling them to fight those last 3 seconds again because Canada apparently made a protest and they found out the Canadian Karateka wasn't out of bound. Canada ended up winning 3-3 on Senshu.

  4. I just rewatched the live stream. that's unbelievable. I didn't know you can protest these kind of decisions. and specially when the match is over ! that was new. feel sorry for the Dutch guy. that surely feels terrible for him.

  5. God, the WKF is so cruel. They brought the athletes back to the tatami to announce the result of the protest. I feel horrible for Lardy. The way this went down is just terrible. I can’t celebrate this at all.

  11. I tried to calculate the European quotas. There are many ways I could have messed this up, so don't think that this is an official confirmation. w70 - 2915 - #1 female European quota m90 - 2875 - #1 male European quota w70 - 2842 - #2 female European quota m90 - 2837 - #2 male European quota w57 - 2778 - #3 female European quota m73 - 2694 - #3 male European quota m90 - 2518 - #4 male European quota m90 - 2495 - #5 male European quota m81 - 2417 - #6 male European quota m73 - 2339 - #7 male European quota w57 - 2337 - #4 female European quota w78+ - 2326 - #5 female European quota m100 - 2247 - #8 male European quota m100 - 2244 - #9 male European quota m100 - 2190 - #10 male European quota m60 - 2157 - #11 male European quota m73 - 2148 - #12 male European quota m90 - 2103 - #13 male European quota At this point we have reached the limit for male European quotas (13). w57 - 1985 - #6 female European quota w63 - 1872 - #7 female European quota w78+ - 1825 - #8 female European quota w52 - 1786 - #9 female European quota w48 - 1753 - #10 female European quota w63 - 1712 - #11 female European quota w63 - 1688 - #12 female European quota

  20. Yep, that's for sure. The ranking quotas on the other hand can be messy with all the reallocations, so we will probably have to wait a few weeks for all the countries with more than 2 qualified athletes to decide.

  21. Top9 quota eligible athletes on the men's ranking: Liebig Hamed Palazkov Toolis M. Dogue Jung Tymoshchenko Kuf Seo So has 4, has 3, has 3, has 3. Which means 5 quota reallocations once these countries decide which quotas they will reject.

  24. I feel very sorry for Tsitsipas He deserved to win and things were going great, but allez. As we all know for years now, no one can beat the Big 3 at the GSs (especially generations after them), no matter how much they try, or what the situations have been. Everyone should just be waiting for them to retire, but the way things are going, it won't be for another 4-5 years.

  30. This is all the matches so far in a nutshell. I wonder if UEFA will ever make some chances, because having a group stage with 24 teams where 16 of them qualifies to the next round is just awful. There isn't any sense of urgency from many teams because they know they will most likely make it to the next round no matter what. And all of this is because 24 is a terrible number for this kind of a football tournament. The solution to this will probably be that UEFA will expand the EUROs to 32 teams in the future.

  33. Let's not count Diaz out. She wasn't good at Tashkent and could have faced challenge for the medals from Chinsanlo and Nabieva. Hang on did you guys read the recent article about her? @Tigercub She's in her form of her life. 100kg snatch + 130kg CJ = 230 kg That's 3kg more than Liao Qiaoyun's best. I know expecting training lift at Olympics is hard. But even if it's 98 + 128kg could just be enough for gold.

  35. Do the downhill commentators really never understand how certain things work? Athlete A has a great run, but makes a huge mistake somewhere which costs at least 2 seconds (but still he has the fastest time). Athlete B closes in on the part where A made a huge mistake and is a second or so down, after this part he is nearly a second up. This is obvious, since A lost 2 seconds there and so it'd be weird if B did not make up a huge chunk of time. However, the commentators didn't see this coming at all: "HE'S A SECOND UP, HE HAS TURNED IT ALL AROUND!! UNBELIEVABLE, WHAT IS HE ON?1!!?!" I like the commentators in general, but this total screaming at perfectly obvious things comes across a little....dumb Anyhow, Troy Brosnan with the win in yesterday's downhill. He is B in this story, Thibaut Daprela was A Amaury Pierron made a return after his broken back with a third place.

  42. Like I said before: The quality might be at an all-time low. Pretty much all the consistent players are gone. Now is the chance for young players like Gauff to break through. The Czech Republic (Noskova) also won the women’s junior competition! Noskova might not even be their biggest talent, Fruhvirtova is higher rated.
