  3. The other thing I will put to a vote is about allowing more than one nation to host a single edition, i.e. the option to co-host. It is something @intoronto wanted us to discuss and it would be useful to gather the views of everyone on this. It can be teased out further to determine what co-hosting means (2 nations, more than 2), should there be some sort of geographic or cultural link between co-hosts, or should it matter? Let's discuss

  5. I wonder if all those involved so much in NOlympics movement (even before covid) could have ever created anything important and valuable in their lives by themselves. Or they are only good at saying 'no' and 'cancel it all'.

  11. * means that an athlete won't compete in Tokyo. Jordan has no citizenship yet, she just changed Federation allegiance (PZBad accepted this) as surprisingly Poland has better conditions for badminton training than Wales (according to her). That means there will be three reallocations and as my friend who knows much about badminton calculated, it means that Wiktoria Dąbczyńska will get the quota probably. Nothing can be said for sure until official statements from the International federation tho. Edit: typo

  14. Damn... This part gave me chills. Quality of movement, background music, the whole package... Always nice to be reminded of the beauty of this sport. Full results (Pferd International CDI4*)... https://results.equestrian-hub.com/show/2005/dressage/32864 @hckošice Bugan made his post-lockdown international comeback. I guess he is preparing for the Europeans in September, for which he qualified today, and secretly hoping for a Tokyo reallocation.

  17. and the last one +109kg 100% safe Talakhadze Davoudi Reis Assad Toychyyev Bidani Wilkes (Pan America) Liti (Oceania) this weight is hard to predict because we have two 109kg weightlifters who can qualify here ! Ruiz and Martirosjan. Ruiz has a good chance to qualify in his own weight but Martirosjan (who participated today but withdrew from CJ) can play dirty and qualifies somewhere else and grabs someone else's rightful place. we also have uncertainties about ARM and BLR . they both have 1 quota and have guys in other weights. Orsag will qualify if only one of those NOCs above doesn't pick this weight. KOR and JPN are next in line but I believe they are not going to pick this weight. Nagy also has to wait for others and their selections. if both JPN and KOR finish in top 8 or decline the quota (very likely) TPE is next in line for the Asian spot. nobody is eligible for the African quota. that one will be reallocated.

  18. 109kg the following guys are 100% safe Djuraev Chumak Michalski Plesnieks (at least Europe) Kitts (Pan America) Lydement (Oceania) Bacha (Africa) almost safe Naniev or Bochkov I believe Russia will use its lone quota here. but I have absolutely no idea about Armenia and Belarus. Martirosyan and Aramnau are safe in the ranking but their NOCs are limited to 1. Martirosyan is the current WR holder but bombing out at the Europeans and that car accident changes his status. he is still favorite to go. Hristov will participate at the Junior Worlds, to improve his points. even though I believe he is already safe (since China is not going to pick Yang Zhe) If Hristov finishes in top 8, then Ruiz will qualify too Hashemi is currently in top 8, after what happened in 96kg he is likely to go to Tokyo but still nothing is clear. currently has 2 weightlifters for the Asian quota but if they move up 1 or 2 positions they will be in top 8 making Mochida the Asian qualifier. if I was Japan I would pick Mochida over 96kg guy but he is not eligible yet.

  19. Oh, well familiar with those douchebags. They raise valid points about the negative aspects of Olympic hosting that don't get highlighted, particularly in a place like Los Angeles which is probably the best example of how a city can host an Olympics and not go deep into debt. Those guys need to find a better hobby though. Make the case against potential hosts that have no business hosting an Olympics. Ask for reforms to the IOC and to the Olympic movement that are desperately needed. But at the end of the day, do better than to make this another case of cancel culture where you're trying to destroy something because you don't like it.

  20. Unless I miscalculated, after the World Cup Final the ranking quotas would be distributed to these 8 NOCs: And the next 5 spots for likely reallocations depending on what happens with the tripartite and WCh quotas:

  22. Another great race and medal from Gulyás, it's good to see that even if her shooting isn't perfect, she's a good enough runner to correct her mistakes. She really is one of the biggest winners of the one year delay in the entire Hungarian Olympic team.

  23. Greek team W1X: Anneta Kyridou Our best chance to qualify. She won bronze at last year's European Championships in this event, and also won gold in this event at the European U23 Championships in 2019 and 2020. She also won a lot of other medals, including gold in W2X at the 2019 World U23 Championships. LW2X: Evangelia Anastasiadou and Zoi Fitsiou They have an outside chance to qualify but I don't expect it at this point. Anastasiadou is a big talent, she won gold last year in LW1X at the European U23 Championships as an 18 year old. Individually her times are much better than Fitsiou. If Nikolaidou (former world champion in LW1X, 4th place in Rio 2016 in W2X) wasn't injured then her and Anastasiadou would have a really great chance to qualify. Hopefully Anastasiadou can continue to improve and then Anastasiadou/Nikolaidou could even contend for a medal in Paris 2024. M2X: Ioannis Kalandaridis and Antonios Papakonstantinou Not sure what to expect from them. It is their first time together. Kalandaridis until last month was competing in M2- and Papakonstantinou in LM2X. Both were clearly better than their partners so I guess they decided to combine and try to qualify. Both have won a bunch of medals in U23 and junior competitions. Kalandaridis even has two gold medals in World Championships (M2- at the Juniors in 2016 and M2X at the U23 in 2018). So far we only have two boats qualified, M1X and W2-. Very small team for us compared to other years (Rio 2016: W2X, M4-, LM4-, London 2012: LW2X, LM2X, M2-, M4-, Beijing 2008: M1X, LM2X, LW2X). Stefanos Ntouskos (M1X) is our only rower returning from Rio (he competed in LM4- there as a 19 year old). EDIT-Big shame for Greece to not even try to qualify in W2X. In Rio 2016 we had Asoumanaki/Nikolaidou (19 and 23 years old) finish fourth in the event. They won silver at the 2015 World Championships also. Then we had in 2019, Kyridou/Tsamopoulou win gold at the World U23 Championships but then Tsamopoulou got injured and couldn't compete at the senior World Championships. Even last year we had girls finish 4th at the European U23 (Christodoulidis/Theochari, and Theochari was still a junior but competed in U23) and bronze at the European Junior (Fragkou/Natsioula). Between all of these girls, you'd think we would at least try to qualify a boat.

  26. South Korea did great job not only by naturalizing some players but also making a strong team. 7 foreign players cannot make a good strong team. If you read about current chinese national team or at least list of those trying to make chinese national team, many of them are foreigners who were given the exception to hold 2 citizenships (China normally does not allow this) and trying to make the national team. What I checked last time, there are many naturalized Canadians and Russian. But as far as I know, none of them made it to any major league. So I guess they may be some kind of village league players which is surely enough for chinese national team but surely not enough for WCH division A or Olympic tournament. China has promised some stuff they will achieve before the Olympics but nothing happened. In my opinion, IIHF and COC must make some kind of deal about it. Otherwise, it will be a huge shame for the whole country. At least chinese people would feel a big shame about. They have way more chances in other sports. That is where they should focus during the upcoming Olympics. And they should leave ice hockey to those who can actually play and deserve to play around the rings way more than some unskilled chinese players or naturalized village league foreign players.

  31. If proper health and safety protocols are in place, the risk of the Olympics being a super-spreader will be minimal. There's way too much fear-mongering that the virus is going to come into Japan from all corners of the globe. As long as athletes are tested, that shouldn't be a major issue. Tokyo just held multiple test events with zero positive cases. It can be done. The bigger concern is the availability of medical resources in Japan as the pandemic is worsening there. But that's on them, not the fault of the Olympics. I'm torn between having sympathy for the struggles of Japan and questioning why they are having these struggles when a lot of other countries are on the downswing from the fall wave. Maybe it's my viewpoint as an American where the case load here is the lowest it has been since late last Summer and restrictions are loosening because so much of the country is vaccinated.

  33. They do, but "anyone who wants to get a vaccine, will have had the option to do so by ...." has changed from "by June" to "by July" and might keep moving and moving back because of the 10 million exceptions they are making I get that certain groups should go first, but if you have too many of those exception groups, the whole process goes sloooooooow before you finally reach a stage where any random person who wants a vaccine, can come and get a vaccine. I believe we're not at the stage where people born in 1962 or so can come and get a vaccine, maybe next week it's 1963's turn and so on.

  36. Absolutely. The difference is huge between my work laptop (no ad blocker and only decent browsing because the laptop is good, but the site is annoying) and my private laptop (ad blocker and smooth browsing). I still wish there was sort of a Premium thing on Totallympics: pay a small amount and in return, you get no ads anymore. I enjoy Totallympics a whole lot, it's absolutely no problem to pay a little (and help keeping it in the air) in return for having no ads. It's not like I ever click on ads anyway...

I can confirm this part. if Japan fails to qualify 4, all of their weightlifters will be removed from the ranking. that will make lots of changes from the official document In case the Host Country (Japan) does not qualify 4 quota places (World + Continental Points),athletes from the Host Country (Japan) are removed and the Absolute Ranking is updated

  49. It's official, István Péni is the Hungarian shooter who had the positive doping test. People at the Hungarian Federation suspect that someone put drug into the B vitamin of István Péni, the substance that caused the positive test can be bought anywhere in the world. The investigation is still not finished, but the suspect is clearly Péter Sidi. It's up to ISSF and WADA what they will do with István Péni, first ISSF will have to decide whether they will let him compete in Tokyo and then WADA will have to decide whether they want to veto the decision of the ISSF. As far as the Hungarian federation and the Hungarian Antidoping Agency is concerned, so far they seem to be on the side of Péni. I think they still hope that at least one of the shooters will be declared innocent and can compete in Tokyo, not sure how realistic that is.
